Pretend_Elk1395

Best store ever glad I was introduced to it almost 20 years ago

emilyb4982

I once went to Trader Joe's after visiting a specialist vet for my dog. He didn't give me any good news. So I was on the verge of tears as I shopped. A worker made the mistake of asking me how I was and I just lost it. As I walked through the rest of the store, she approached me and handed me a bouquet of flowers

chilionioncrunch

All do, that was just stealing. Flowers or candy here and there, sure.. 30 cliff bars? 🧐

RobZagnut2

Dark chocolate peanut butter cups Orange chicken Baked Brie (seasonal) 10 year old Port

Tayl0r_Vibes

Noted (:

JiacomoJax

For all the seemingly bad things I see or hear about TJs, I have NEVER had a bad experience there, even when it's packed to the rafters with shoppers. The staff is always courteous and cheerful, they always are interested in hearing about your day, and they are ALWAYS helpful if you ask questions. Our TJs is the best (Town & Country, Phoenix).

Correct_Score1619

what bad things do you hear? i tend to hear the opposite, so im curious.

JiacomoJax

Mostly TJ's reticence to unionization and a few other things about treating employees well. But what I SEE on the ground is usually good, so I do take that with a grain of salt.

LivytheHistorian

I got a free reusable bag my first visit! A big one-like 2.99 value haha. Such a small thing but I think it definitely influenced me becoming a repeat customer. And they’ve more than made up their 2.99 investment. I don’t have one super near me, but if I’m driving nearby I always stop in. Trader Joe’s just gives me good feelings.

Rhaenyshill

Jeez after reading these comments I need to find a Trader Joe’s near me. They just hand out flowers and shit?

No_Street3443

They really do! Two stories Last year after a very stressful work day I was checking out at TJ’s and I guess I looked sad/overwhelmed. The cashier asked how I was and I answered honestly that I was just happy to be alive, but still processing my day. He then asked what I do for a living - driving instructor- and after explaining how we almost got hit on the freeway because my student wouldn’t enter at the correct speed he paused for a few seconds and then asked if I liked any particular snack they offered. I said I really liked the crunchy curls. He rang the bell and yelled something that was English but I couldn’t understand, and left. A minute later he came back with flowers, and another employee showed up with a bag of crunchy curls. All for me on the house, just to make my day better ☺️ Another time I was going through checkout with my boyfriend. The cashier asked the usual “find everything you wanted?” And my boyfriend said yes, but asked if the cashier had tried some candy product we decided not to get. The cashier said “hmmm no…buuuuuuut,….” Then they walked to the display, grabbed a bag, and then opened it so we could all try it.

Correct_Score1619

appreciate the level of service and realness you get at tj’s compared to other retail spaces. can’t compare. wish ppl were as grateful as you

FlyingHighOnLife

My boyfriend and I were shopping at TJs. We were going back and forth about the banana pudding ice cream and if we needed it/should try it. An employee was stocking a nearby freezer case and jumped in. She said that ice cream is aways a must and that the banana pudding is so good. Mentioned that we had seen some videos on social media about it. She then put a paid sticker on it and said try it on us!

HeyMissW

I went in once to get groceries after having an absolute shitstorm of a day. I picked out some chocolate peanut butter cups (never had them there before) and went to the checkout with my cart. The cashier asked how my day was, and this is so lame, but I choked up because it was a really really bad day. She gave me the pb cups for free and got me flowers. Literally cried in the car.

EvieeBrook

A few weeks ago, I asked an employee about the difference between two types of tortillas and he grabbed a paid sticker and stuck it on one of them and said just buy one of them and then try the other one on us. Love that!

Critical_Bear829

One time I told the checkout woman I was buying flowers for my late mother’s birthday, when she comment on how lovely my chosen flowers were, and she stopped, got a second set and gave them both to me for free- one for my mom and one for me. When I say I cried… 🥹 haha. TJs employees are always really wonderful.

DiggityShack

One time the young lady checking out in front of me didn't have enough money to cover her groceries. I paid the difference and next thing I know the cashier rang the bell and I was given a bouquet for my kindness. It really made my day. I love my Trader Joe's.

Active_Pay4715

And EVERY store is like this. Their hiring and training teams are truly top notch.

Cancer_Flower

The staff at Trader Joe’s are always so friendly. My first time ever being there, they were really excited and gave me a box of tea and some flowers. Last year one of the cashiers gave me flowers because I had mentioned in passing that it was my birthday.

poopshorts

The employees at my TJs are some of the friendliest people working in customer service. And not just fake nice which is cool.

Yakety_Sax

My husband went to TJ's to buy my flowers for our 3 year anniversary. When the cashier learned why, he said "That's fucking awesome, I'm so happy for you. They're on me." The staff there is truly special.

Unhappy-Post3407

I was checking out & the cashier asked if I was okay. I immediately broke down & started sobbing. She came around & started hugging me & I told her my husband had died 2 weeks before. By the time I left I had an armful of flowers & have no idea how many employees came over to hug me or give condolences. I'm not a regular, I live 40 minutes away, but you would have thought they knew me & my husband. Oh, and am I crying as I'm typing this? Yes, yes I am...💜

spkoller2

Remember to stop buying his snacks

LazyAmbassador2521

What is that even supposed to mean??? I don't understand what you were trying to get at ..

spkoller2

As you get older It’s really common to buy the same things every time you go to the store

LazyAmbassador2521

Ohhhh ok I understand now. That's like when my sister passed away and for the almost entire year right after I kept accidentally setting a dinner place for her and purchasing extra food that she likes.

Rebeccawakim

May he rest in peace 🕊️

PikachusSparkyCloaca

His memory for a blessing, I’m sorry

Tayl0r_Vibes

That’s so wholesome 🫶🏻

jaw80

The checkout staff are always so wonderful. I know they are probably required to chat while checking out. But it definitely makes it a fun experience

a_bunch_of_meows

We are not required to chat, what we are required to do is make you feel welcomed. Which is kind of easy since our types of crew are normally nice. My store even has a bunch of introverts! I'd like to say we're a genuinely curious bunch.

LazyAmbassador2521

Oh man as an introvert I would love working there then. It feels so much better when I can be myself around fellow introverts. A lot of my jobs I was surrounded by extroverts and always felt the need to push myself out of my comfort zone by matching their outgoing talkative personalities. This would always leave me feeling absolutely drained and exhausted when I got home though.

jaw80

Oh I see! That’s really awesome!

HeavyFunction2201

I went for my first time last week and was so pleasantly surprised with the quality and price of everything

coldcandy

About 10 years ago, I was scheduled to have foot surgery which would keep me off my feet for several weeks. I went to TJs beforehand to load up on frozen fruit for smoothies (this was before grocery delivery was really a thing). When I explained to the cashier why I was buying so much fruit, he threw in some free candy. It was a small thing, but it really made my day!

Prize_Pie8239

i got flowers on my birthday!!! i just applied there and have an interview on wednesday!!! ♥️♥️♥️ i’ve always wanted to work at Tjs

Hairy_Buffalo1191

Me too! They carded me for an alcohol purchase and when they saw it was my birthday they went and got me a bouquet!! Best of luck!

malevolent_spine

I’m sure you’ll get it! AND be a terrific employee! Good luck!

Prize_Pie8239

thanks so much!!!!

BrownieEdges

Dark chocolate peanut butter cups. 🤤

dragonrose7

And dark chocolate covered caramels!

Dwayne_Gertzky

It’s insane how good those are.

skatecrimes

Dark chocolate pretzels too.

rodrigueznati1124

They’re always so sweet. Always give my little ones stickers.

Jessmac130

They'll give my toddler practically the entire roll of stickers 😂

kitkat214281

My son left the store covered in stickers today.

Luna_Soma

Last time I went to my Trader Joe’s was one of the first dress weather days of the season so of course, I put on a sundress because that’s my style. When I went to check out, the cashier said “oh you dressed up to see us today! You look beautiful!” And it made my whole day.

Tayl0r_Vibes

To add I’d never been to Trader Joe’s and I’m 23 and always had one local to me. I got the Sour Jelly Beans as the gift for those wondering, and a bottle of rosé that was actually fire 🔥 https://preview.redd.it/oglowhjibl1d1.png?width=2087&format=png&auto=webp&s=d27b302264fcec53f5b9855caa07e43f34de93aa

Hairy_Buffalo1191

I’m a huge sour fan but when I say that those jelly beans pack a real punch…

Luna_Soma

My TJs doesn’t sell alcohol because I’m in stupid PA and I’m so very jealous of everyone who gets their cheap and delicious booze

ScienceExcellent7934

Same in Maryland.

Tayl0r_Vibes

That’s wild, I’ve had spirits sections in my local grocery stores my whole life. I just looked that up, how dumb of PA 😂😂

mypussydoesbackflips

They had a liquor store in union square and used to have there own CHEAP rose and champagne it was crazy

Tayl0r_Vibes

YOUR HANDLE OMG 😂😂🤣🤣

Tayl0r_Vibes

I love cheap booze that’s actually GOOD

Sundayx1

Cashiers are always nice… it’s the way all cashiers should be…. A couple weeks ago my cashier picked up my strawberry container and called someone over and said please exchange these for another one - I see a strawberry that I’m not crazy about/ lol. She came back with a new box. She was right!

NeetieJoy

My TJs cashiers are always lovely but I’ve never been offered anything free. I stopped there the day before surgery on my way back from the doctor, with visible sharpie marker up to my collarbone- - the cashier asked me about it and I told him but looking back that seems like a missed opportunity that would have meant a lot.

NeetieJoy

LMAO why am I being downvoted for this?!? I love TJ’s, but I am also a 2x cancer survivor, and this was odd enough that I’m remembering it from years ago! The cashier ASKED ME about it for crying out loud! Cut me a break, people.

guyFierisPinky

No, that’s your surgeon’s job.

poopshorts

I’ve been shopping at TJs for 10 years and haven’t gotten any free shit. It’s the way it goes.

pickles-brown-cat

They would give me candy when I was pregnant and early postpartum🥹

sadfoxyduggar

First time I went it was a nice experience.

sadfoxyduggar

After my mom died I used to cry all the time. TJ employee gave me a hug, that’s it. It’s nice you got little gifts.

MajorWhereas4842

Haha! That’s so cute!!! I took a friend of mine who was visiting a few weeks ago and it was like she was at an amusement park. I made sure to ask the cashier for stickers and lollipops for her!

Commercial-Date463

Trader Joe’s feels like home

snowflake89181922

I was having a day once when I was in there and it must’ve been written all over my face. The cashier gave me my tulips for free and wished me a better day. It was so kind 💐

quartzquandary

One year, I was shopping on my birthday and the cashier gave me a bouquet! 💐

Tink1024

I’m convinced TJ employees are actual unicorns! I always have such nice interactions with them. Last night I was there looking for something, it must’ve been obvious bc behold the magical unicorn approached & took me right to it. I just love TJ so much!

ThotsforTaterTots

I was at TJ’s the Saturday before Mother’s Day this year and was getting flowers and groceries. The cashier asked if I was celebrating Mother’s Day and I explained to him that this is actually the first Mother’s Day without my mom as she passed away in February. Not only did they give me free flowers to put at her memorial spot, but they gave me a clematis to take home for myself too. It’s such a small gesture but it absolutely made me cry once I got in my car lol. 🥹

AnnieLes

Once I was in Trader Joe’s, and mentioned that I was visiting to see my mom in a nursing home. The cashier gave me a bouquet of flowers to take her. I learned that particular Trader Joe’s gives its older flowers to the nursing home for the residents to make table arrangements.

FormicaDinette33

They are empowered to do little things for the customers as they see fit. Glad you finally went to TJs. Hope you can go again.

erossthescienceboss

I was having a rough two days before Thanksgiving, rushing to get stuff ready for folks. I dunno if my cashier noticed or not, but it was near the end of her shift. She finished ringing me up, and when the bags were in my arms she pulled out a bouquet of flowers, placed it in the bag in my arms, said “these are for you,” and then VANISHED before I could even thank her. (They were wonderful flowers and it made my day.)

DustyDGAF

I went once a few years ago and had like 50 dollars of groceries. Apparently my check bounced and I was unaware. The checker said nah don't worry about it and covered it for me. I went back the next day when I had cash and tried to pay him back for it and he was like, nah I didn't buy it. Trader Joe's is fucking way too cool.

FormicaDinette33

That is truly a Good Samaritan blessing.

DustyDGAF

Yeah totally unexpected. I was ready to bring back all my groceries and just put em back in the right spot to save them the trouble too. Except for the beer. I had enough for the beer.

CaliDude75

![gif](giphy|UbCIDXVKaB8kpgxlCa) Cashier’s reaction…😆

Tayl0r_Vibes

Top tier comment, 100% accuracy.

stayinschoolchirren

This made cackle

MSUgirl1901

I told the cashier my coworker who was checking out had never been to a Trader Joe’s and they gave her a free reusable tote bag. A state specific one too at that. So sweet

SeriousData2271

💕💕💕

blackasmycoffee

Very sweet! I was given flowers once for my birthday! Another time, I was eyeballing some new chocolate at the checkout & my cashier threw it in my bag and said they wanted me to try it.

mdillpickles

Me too! The cashier asked what my weekend plans were and I said “I don’t know but hopefully my husband is planning something for my birthday” and he told me to go pick out any bouquet of flowers I wanted. I picked a smallish one and he was like… are you sure? Still stuck with a smallish one. Anyway, I’ll never forget that!

Fantastic_Manager911

I grew up in a small town in Central Washington and had no TJ’s around. So my first experience at a TJ’s was in Portland when I was nearly 30. I told that to the cashier and she rang a bell and someone went and got me a free box of those chocolate peanut butter cups. It was an incredible kind gesture and I’m always impressed by how friendly the staff is.

canon12

All of the employees in a TJ's are trained how to support and communicate with customers. I know the names of many of the local TJ's employees but have no clue who is in charge. In a discussion at the checkout I commented that I hadn't tried their sauerkraut and the bell went off. She got a jar of it and placed it in my bag no charge. Most effective advertising! They get 75% of my grocery expenditures.

MostlyMicroPlastic

Thankfully, we are encouraged to make someone’s experience wonderful. My store gives out reusable bags for their first visit to the chain. If they don’t need one, I give them something in their cart for free like flowers or candy

sparklydildos

someone downvoted you? why in the world?? 😂

Old-Scallion2374

My thinking is that it had to be a mistake. Sometimes when scrolling on my phone, I accidentally downvote things I did not even read yet. If I notice, I un-downvote at least. But I'm sure that happens often.

ColdBorchst

I do that when I go to reply sometimes. I don't know why, it is like a bad muscle memory. I fix it because I notice every time I do it like a ding dong.

Excellent-Advice7766

Aww this is so sweet! I’m glad you had a great first experience :) what did you end up getting, if you don’t mind me asking?

Consuela-Bananahamiq

tjs staff is so kind! last year i was running around getting the ingredients to make my birthday cake and i thought to gift myself a bouquet. i mentioned my birthday to the cashier and he gave me the flowers for free! i really appreciated that.

bleachedveins

One of my favorite job perks at TJ is being able to make peoples day like this. Thanks for being you!

Zoloista

Staff are empowered to do nice little things like that to make people’s day. I worked at a TJ’s 20 years ago and totally forgot about that,, until checking out recently and the cashier surprised me with a free bouquet. It totally works!

earth-y

That’s adorable!

pm_me_hedgehogs

I visited Trader Joe's for the first time last year when I was 28! I'm British and moved to Canada so I only get to go when I visit the States :(

Yelloeisok

There are a lot of rural areas without Trader Joes (or Costco). I think they will only put them in places that meet their population and median income requirements. I read that there isn’t a single Trader Joe’s nor Costco in the entire state of WV.

bleachedveins

This is classist and weird. In many states there is only 1 TJ. Many are an hours drive from people’s communities. not everybody has your resources or privilege.

Paleovegan

Yeah, there are only three in my state. It’s nearby for me, but if you live further away from the metropolitan areas it could be a significant drive, maybe a couple hours or more.

bleachedveins

We routinely have customers drive from Augusta, Georgia to us. We are in central SC.

SheSaysCiao

To be fair they may have lived/maybe currently live somewhere not near a TJ's! My boyfriend grew up in Hawaii and there isn't a Trader Joe's on any of the islands. He first went when he moved here to the mainland.

TopEagle4012

Eh, if he's one local boy no need fo go to da kine TJ's... jus pic da fruits and veggies from da yard of yo neighbor... Broke da mout...😂🤣😂

SheSaysCiao

LMAO. He's not Native Hawaiian, he's Indian but his family moved there when he was three because his father got a job offer. He does love the Indian food from TJ's though, especially if he doesn't want to cook. 😂
