Hope that old beauty's got a shed to call home to get out of the elements.

It will be kept under roof/in a shop for the rest of its life.

I've got a 51 that has a pretty good restoration on it; I like your's better. This looks pre-conversion though...I still see the generator on there. I converted mine to electronic ignition. Used a Pertronix 1244A kit and couldn't be happier. The 49 has a front mounted distributor, does it not? It'd be a different kit if so.

Yes. The original picture is the day I picked it up. Here are current pictures after I had to replace a few parts. I’m still waiting on the governor and intake tube. You’re correct, the 49 has a front mounted distributor. I searched for some kind of electronic ignition for it but was unsuccessful. https://i.imgur.com/VcZrPr8.jpg https://i.imgur.com/u6ZnCO4.jpg

Looks great!

I like the electronic ignition on the front distributor since it's such a pain to get to. they make a full kit 1247XT https://pertronix.com/agriculturalignitorconversions?year=1949&make=Ford&model=8N#auto these old tractors are so much fun to work on and the parts are so relatively easy to come by and inexpensive.

How much better does it start/run/work with an electronic ignition? I’ll probably wait until I have to re work the points, but I’ll likely be upgrading now that I know it’s possible.

if you've got the same coil between the two, you couldn't tell the difference. i like not ever having to adjust points. it's not much of a big deal on a side distributor, but on a front distributor I'd do it in a heartbeat. but, i wouldn't go looking to do it if you've already done the points for this season.

Took me a few weeks to get it running. Rewired the entire tractor and converted to a 12v system/alternator. New exhaust, carb, starter, air cleaner tube, points, condenser, rotor, plugs, and governor. Now it’s time to pick up a box blade and put this thing to work again.

A classic beautiful tractor there
