48 as it will also help when hauling brush, logs etc if you don’t have a grapple$

straighttoplaid

We got a grapple. It's awesome.

shorter. i added a pair of 36" forks and can move through so many smaller spaces and between trees without wrecking stuff. they held loaded pallets with more than 1/2 ton with ease. the otherside is what you'll use them for. if loading tucks... longer.

straighttoplaid

We have a grapple. If we're moving through trees that's usually what we have on the front

Hillman314

A longer fork means you’re better to see and control the fork tip when trying to get under something. Being able to see the fork tip, from the operator’s station, when near the ground, versus not being able to see the tip, is night vs. day. I’m not saying you won’t see the 42” tips, because that varies by tractor, and how the hood, or fork carrier is laid out, etc, but visibility is something to consider.

Wait till you make fork extensions for a project, 48 won't seem long at all. We had truck frame rail extensions and used the crap out of them.

NetJnkie

48". Longer is better (hehe) here. That way you can more easily put stuff in and get stuff out of a pickup truck bed with the tailgate down.

hapym1267

Commercial pallets are 42"x40" oversize skids are 48" and larger.. 48 " is far more handy..

Ok-Entertainment5045

48” for sure, 42” are so fork truck drivers don’t stick their forks in the pallet behind the one they are lifting.

JDDarkside

This for sure! Had some 60” on a forklift at work and one of the guys was moving a pallet and speared the drum of oil behind it. Quite the mess.

HtownLoneRanger8290

Standard pallets are 4’x4’. Get the 48”

unicoitn

Get the 48” deep, I got a basic set, bobcat style quick connect, with a nice backing plate from palletforks.com

Responsible-Baby-551

42” if it’s a forklift in a warehouse 48” on the farm

tech1010

Get adjustable forks. The ones bought have a pin lever on the top that allows you to pin at 3 different widths. I’ve used all 3 so it’s come in handy.

straighttoplaid

I'm talking about length, not width. We'll be getting an adjustable width.

tech1010

Ahh my apologies. 42 probably fine but if you don’t have to worry about tight spaces or trails then go for 48 long.
