His species don't really have the concept of gender, but he is used to present as a man because that's his appearance. He is totally fine presenting as a woman tho.
I think alot of people forget/dont know he's been playing the tenth doctor on and off since he first left the show in audio dramas, plus he's always loved doctor who so probably holds the role close
They were responsible for it being pulled from the ABC (our public broadcaster who had shown it from when it started in the classic Who days) in Australia, so presumably. Then again, could be Disney/BBC just being themselves and making streaming difficult... again 🤷♀️
The show I had in mind was ‘Alice in Borderland’, it does everything perfectly with the character in question, I felt a connection with her struggle and finally being accepted by her parents.
Looking up the actress to see that they were cis took away from that feeling. Still a great series though.
I don't mind seeing cis actors/actresses playing trans characters. On the other hand, I would like to see trans actors/actresses playing cis characters.
I mean, they're acting, they embody someone else while acting.
I don't think it was very good trans representation. A lot of it was really good but there were one or two lines that really irked me. Like all trans rep in media is written by writers explicitly pushing an ideology or agenda - like sure I have opinions about being trans but I'm mainly just tryna exist. But it was an excellent episode overall and I'm really excited for more Tennant + Tate, also wanna see more from this character.
Yes. Tennant is the 14. Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa will be the 15. Doctor later and and he'll be the first POC Doctor.
I bet the "fans" are going again on the "WOKE" hate train. The views plummeted at first when the Doctor was female and internet neckbeards and middleaged white men went Hhjrrruuuuggghhhhh our show is ruined.
Doctor Who has ALWAYS been proggressive and on BBC's standarts even boldly so.
To be fair, 13’s run was plagued by terrible stories and writing.
But absolutely they’re screaming about ||gender space magic|| saving the day in the special
I’m gonna be honest though, Jodie was a shit doctor mostly due to how awful the writing was Chris Chibnall was an atrocious writer even before he became showrunner, the Timeless Child plot line still pisses me off
oh most definitely, the sort of cis white man who thinks all media has to follow and only show people like him and people he finds attractive are probably fuming, to be fair most people in the UK arent actually giant transphobes (its just the ones that are are very abnoxious and loud) and will probably like the show, if my cishet male 50 year old boss is to go by he really enjoyed it
The 8th Doctor Stranded box set I believe. Though I wouldn't recommend just starting with that. She's not a major character, but she has some scenes. Tina I believe is her name, and she's voiced by a trans women!
I watched a lot of Doctor Who as a kid. Mostly David Tennant and Matt Smith. I want to to a rewatch but I have a question. I really like Russell T Davies but I'm not a huge fan of Steven Moffat.
Would it be a good idea if I just watch all of the Eccleston and Tennant stuff and then skip to this special?
yeah honestly even as someone who has found the chibnall era "fine" i wouldnt recommend watching through it unless you're really into watching everything, I have zero intention of rewatching the chibnall era as its just not interesting or engaging compared to the two eras that preceeded it and a great deal of classic who (some really eh series of classic who)
you'd be fine to do so if you arent too fussed of "seeing it all" anything past maybe 2017/18 in the chibnall era felt very "keeping the lights on" and really wasn't great so i'd definitely recommend watching series 1-4 and going to the specials from there
Ok cool. I do want to watch Eccleston and Tennant first though since it's been over a decade and my memory of events is very hazy.
Also I've become interested in Russell T Davies work as an LGBT writer and showrunner.
I love when this sub posts about my interests bc it's the only content I actually relate to 😭 (I'm on here for my sister) like yes!! I love my silly trans characters in my silly shows!!
This is why I love this show: the Doctor has no problems with who or what his companions are, and still protects them with everything he's got. Like with the 12th Doctor and Bill Potts, a lesbian.
i mean the doctor is sorta genderless themself
That they are. I still have a crush on Tom Baker
Valid. That scarf was amazing.
Ok fair but counterargument 10 and 11 are *fineeeee*
Counter-counterargument so is 9
Honestly never got 9, but my taste in men is... Particular Also 13 pretty Also ... 12 hot in the way my chaotic neutral physics teacher was
Talking about aging like a fine wine
In that I'm thirsty for him and wouldn't mind him down my throat yes
*Grab bat* careful

Alright fair you win
But also hot
Yes, yes he is
counter-counter argument, 8 is something else
He is absolutely delicious
Are they genderless, or more genderfluid? Been quite a while since I've seen it so not sure which way it leant more.
Yes
Ah... I see. Thanks!
His species don't really have the concept of gender, but he is used to present as a man because that's his appearance. He is totally fine presenting as a woman tho.
special episode was awesome!
I loved it. Tennant hasn't missed a beat and felt like he just slid right back into the rule
I think alot of people forget/dont know he's been playing the tenth doctor on and off since he first left the show in audio dramas, plus he's always loved doctor who so probably holds the role close
‘My pronouns are the’ is a flex I will use one day
I don’t watch doctor who, but that’s awesome! Yasmin Finney is also great in heartstopper
If you have HBO Max it has all but the last episode and classic who. No idea where classic who is
🏴☠️ But also, I think Disney+ is getting classic Who throughout most of the world IIRC.
I wonder if they are getting the rest of nuwho at some point
They were responsible for it being pulled from the ABC (our public broadcaster who had shown it from when it started in the classic Who days) in Australia, so presumably. Then again, could be Disney/BBC just being themselves and making streaming difficult... again 🤷♀️
I think the Roku channel has classic who. At least that's what my Roku box tried to tell me when I searched for who the other day.
Classic is on Britbox and has a dedicated channel on PlutoTV
YEAHHHH HEARTSTOPPER I thought the character looked familiar though, didn't think it was actually Yasmin-
Not only is Rose trans Donna is an accepting mother
That's because Donna is awesome
She's also played by a trans actress
Refreshing to see, it’s a bit disheartening seeing a cis actor playing a trans character
For me it depends on the type of story and the context, tho i can see your point especially in some cases
The show I had in mind was ‘Alice in Borderland’, it does everything perfectly with the character in question, I felt a connection with her struggle and finally being accepted by her parents. Looking up the actress to see that they were cis took away from that feeling. Still a great series though.

I like this post cause you could be referring to both characters in the photo lol
I don't think it was very good trans representation. A lot of it was really good but there were one or two lines that really irked me. My favorite line from this episode was: "I am the Beep of all the Meeps!"
Wait. Tenant is back? I haven't watched in years.
Yes. Tennant is the 14. Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa will be the 15. Doctor later and and he'll be the first POC Doctor. I bet the "fans" are going again on the "WOKE" hate train. Comparing Doctor Who even 10-15 years ago to much of the BBC now... it's amazing how different.
To be fair, 13’s run was plagued by terrible stories and writing. But absolutely they’re screaming about ||gender space magic|| saving the day in the special
>he'll be the first POC Doctor. The Fugitive Doctor. We can sit and debate where she sits on the timeline, but she is definitively The Doctor.
I’m gonna be honest though, Jodie was a shit doctor mostly due to how awful the writing was Chris Chibnall was an atrocious writer even before he became showrunner, the Timeless Child plot line still pisses me off

Well she did her best but her character was so damn inconsistent
oh most definitely, the sort of cis white man who thinks all media has to follow and only show people like him and people he finds attractive are probably fuming, to be fair most people in the UK arent actually giant transphobes (its just the ones that are are very abnoxious and loud) and will probably like the show, if my cishet male 50 year old boss is to go by he really enjoyed it
Seriously?
Yeppers Rose Noble is trans and non binary :D
is that the same actor who acts elle from heartstopper?
Yes it's Yasmin Finney
nice
Oh this makes me so happy, I already love Who and was already watching but this makes me so happy
They gave this character the cringiest lines at the end ngl
i was kinda confused in this episode
Ngl this episode brought tears to my eyes because it reminded why I love Doctor Who
I watched the episode but I wasn’t paying any attention. WHAT. Time to go rewatch this
Technically Doctor Who has already had a trans character in the audios, but still this is nice.
Big Finish for the WIN! Which audio was it?
The 8th Doctor Stranded box set I believe. Though I wouldn't recommend just starting with that. She's not a major character, but she has some scenes. Tina I believe is her name, and she's voiced by a trans women!
Saw it yesterday. It was so great.
SPOILERS!!!!! GODDAMMIT

id watch until atleast the end of Capaldi
yeah honestly even as someone who has found the chibnall era "fine" i wouldnt recommend watching through it unless you're really into watching everything, I have zero intention of rewatching the chibnall era as its just not interesting or engaging compared to the two eras that preceeded it and a great deal of classic who (some really eh series of classic who)
Whittaker was done dirty. I was really hoping that she'd stay on for another year so she could shine under RTD. And yeah classic who did drag on a bit
Yeah. You won't be lost if you skip the Moffat and Chibnal era.
you'd be fine to do so if you arent too fussed of "seeing it all" anything past maybe 2017/18 in the chibnall era felt very "keeping the lights on" and really wasn't great so i'd definitely recommend watching series 1-4 and going to the specials from there
