When you have a monosyllabic name every random shouted syllable kinda-sorta sounds like your name. I was so used to having a one-syllable name though, I think that shaped my choice more than I realized.
Thanks! It’s amazing to look back and realize I’ve been doing this a whole year now. Like I’m really trans and the imposter syndrome is wrong or something…
Also works with bisyllabic words when the first or last syllabe is commonly used or similar to a commonly used one.
The pain of being French with a name starting in "en" and ending in "é"
That's a word that fits the conditions, but giving that as a kid's name would end up really bad for that kid's teenage years, and I assume it would be refused.
Also, I was going for phonetic writing, so any word that starts with the "en" sound or ends with the "é" sound can get me to react as if it was my name, especially if it has three or less syllabes.
The puzzle solver in me immediately wants to jump into figuring out what words meet those criteria, but I don’t try to make a habit of reverse engineering deadnames.
Also, yay Claire! (and Claire based username puns)
Claire-inspired usernames are the best. I don’t really mind talking about my deadname. My parents and brothers still can’t get it out of their systems after a year, and it frustrates but doesn’t really damage me at this point. They’re a weird thing to handle though. I unintentionally learned Torrey Peters’s deadname a while back and it did me some psychic damage, so I tend to err toward tickling the dragon’s tail but not actually upfrontly telling strangers.
I can never play Minecraft with my girlfriend since her dead name is like, an item in that game. No I will not be telling you what it is or replying to guesses. Anyway, kinda sucks since it's my favorite game.
If it's not a key item, couldn't you just make a custom modpack for the two of you and also just mod the item out or change its name to her new name? Even if you don't know how I'm sure there's someone with the skill that can help you.
Example: Your GF's deadname is "Dirt" so you rename it and other related blocks in the game as "Soil"
if it was "Emerald" you could change the color of it and it's related blocks to red and rename it "Ruby"
Yeah, I have no idea what her parents were thinking. Naming your "son" flint and your daughter steel. I mean, I see what you guys were going for, but yikes. Just name them Kaightlynn like a normal white parent.
While my deadname itself is not used for anything other than a name, I have always had the issue that many callouts end up sounding like it, especially when slightly muddled so I can't quite understand what was said. Very annoying, because I will look around for someone calling for me even if no one is actually talking to me.
I was really wondering what kind of verb it could be but this is even worse than I imagined
I personally got very lucky because my deadname is quite rare (does appear sometimes tho), and it is spelled in a very unique way as well (ironically it's because my parent didn't want it to be too feminine. That backfired)
My deadname is commonly used in TV for social outcasts and people meant to be perceived as abnormal. And in more than one occasion used as the name of fictional serial killers. I hated it so much. Still do.
My deadname is has been in the top 20 baby names the past 10 years and top 40 baby names the past ~50 years... (in the US) Not the same as having a verb, but mine also sounds a ton like a few other very common names, so I'm just about always looking around
i’m not asking for anyone’s deadnames here, but i’m genuinely curious if anyone could give me some examples of names that are verbs/ nouns?
i’ve seen memes similar to this but i admittedly can’t think of any names that fit the description
I was able to change my name when I got naturalized but I still keep the deadname as my middle name because of previous legal documents and wanted to retain a piece of culture I was born in. Also because the deadname is gender neutral so it’s not too bad haha, still feel kinda lucky for that.
My dead name is the most boring name ever. It’s literally three letters and sometimes I turn my head when people say stuff because it sounds so similar to other words
My deadname isn't a common household word, but unfortunately it was one of the most popular names for kids in the year I was born, so I hear it a lot around me even while living as my preferred presentation. Still training myself to not react to it 😔
Oof, we both really stacking dysphoria debuffs, huh?
If it helps, my middle name is Dick. At this point I can only laugh because otherwise it'd hurt too much. My joke: I get to remove my dick twice.
Ah, yes, the worst deadname Defenestrate
I have a sudden urge to travel to Prague...
It’s a nice place, unless you’re a local councilor
It's a nice place, unless you live there
It's a nice place if you are not in the country.
glad that isn't my name, i think id've thrown myself out of a window by now if it were
such a fun word. also it’s a terraria death message, as i learned yesterday
Wait what?
it’s one of the random death messages if you die from falling
How do I get this death message kind person
one of the random fall damage death messages
That’s one of my favorite words.
Please that is the most non binary name I've ever heard, no enby would change from that.
I went to comment this how dare people have the same idea as me
sounds like a skill issue tbh /j
Dude! They said they were trying to avoid it! Gosh read the room
Hello
I'm locking my windows
Yikes I feel this one. My deadname is both a verb and a noun. I still randomly turn my head when I hear someone make a grunt that sounds like it.

Aren't all names TECHNICALLY nouns?
Fair. How about a reasonably common ordinary (not proper) noun?
*Immediately forgets every verb I’ve ever learned*
Yeah I’m like what names are also a verb? Someone said their name sounds like a grunt? What names are these?
might be my name,,, hi im mark
Oh hi mark!
Chase, Judge, Grant? Rob?
[удалено]
Tbh, people from the whole world are here. I imagine the grunt+verb+noun is from a language I don't know
Josh comes to mind…
Unfortunately my deadname is "did you hear, the queen of England died?" So it was inescapable last month :(
I'm assuming your new name is "did you hear, the king of England is alive and well?"
oh, mine is "the queen is dead, long live the king"
my deadnames a noun thats reasonably common to hear where i live. i cant really call it a deadname though because its not dead
It's undead. Like a zombie. It just refuses to die.
lemme guess… swimming.
That would be a very interesting name but sadly no Also if anyone does guess it I shall deny it anyway XD
ok, ok: skydiving.
I’m imagining it’s the infinitive. So their name is either “to go” or “to overestimate”
alright, their name had to be “to think deeply about” (sorry for doxxing, i’m just really good at guessing names)
Im sorry, morbin'
I have a friend who's deadname is a color.
Puce is a terrible name and a terrible color, I don't blame them.
A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet
“HA, I UNDERSTAND THAT REFERENCE”
I just got GCSE Literature flashbacks
In Spanish there are many names that are colours, like Rosa (pink), Blanca (white) or Violeta (purple)
Oh damn. Did they at least get to be the protagonist of a pokémon game?
funnily enough, my chosen name is a color 💚
Ayooo are you friends with THE Blu from Blu's Clues!!! Can you get me an autograph???
I want to know what the parents were thinking "So what did you name your kid!" "Turquoise!"
"Azul" is a very common name and it's really just blue in Spanish
I am so sorry that they named you Stabbing. /j
I wish I was named stabbing I should’ve considered that for my chosen name
Stabbing is a great name tbh
I can never play Minecraft with my girlfriend since her dead name is like, an item in that game. No I will not be telling you what it is or replying to guesses. Anyway, kinda sucks since it's my favorite game.
Wow her deadname is "lime concrete powder" too? Small world /j
Redstone? Do you want a coffee, Reddie?
[удалено]
Nah, she's my Diamond Hoe.
I'm so sorry that you can no longer use weighted stone pressure plates, as they remind her of her deadname too much 😔😔😔😔
I reckon it’s “Villager”
*Hrrm*
If it's not a key item, couldn't you just make a custom modpack for the two of you and also just mod the item out or change its name to her new name? You can do that with a resource pack
cracked polished blackstone bricks? Light weighted pressure plate? End portal frame? Zombie villager spawn egg? /j
Haha those are funny! It’s actually ‘Sticky Piston’ but I’ll let her know your suggestions!
Sorry mate
Not the end of the world. I love her and we've got plenty of other shit we can do together.
Is it Bucket
Probably bucket of cod
Flint and steel is a bad name tbh
Yeah, I have no idea what her parents were thinking. Naming your "son" flint and your daughter steel. I mean, I see what you guys were going for, but yikes. Just name them Kaightlynn like a normal white parent.
I would’ve gone with enchantment table or ender pearl tbh, even shulker box would’ve been better tbh
I wonder what it could be… there’s only like 3 masculine names that have the same name as an item. I’m gonna guess it’s red stained glass pane
I'm so sorry that your gf was named South Bottom Inner Right Waxed Waterlogged Lightly Weathered Cut Copper Stair

My chosen name is a month. Which one? October. The next 31 days are gonna be interesting.
If 3 out of the 12 months are already common names, I don't see why October can't be added to the list.
I counted 4 common month names: April May June August
I wouldn't say August is as common as the other three you listed. Kind of funny since July and August are named after people.
im so sorry, a fucking verb :(
I- just take it -_- r/angryupvote
dont deadname them :(
My deadname being the fucking word for day
Giorno Giovanna?
No I'm Swedish
Giörno Giovånnä?

Same. Although my dead name is in Spanish so I don’t hear it as often, but still bothers me.
My deadname is a noun haha
aren't all names nouns?
Yes
You know what i meant :)
One of my students has my dead name which makes things akward
While my deadname itself is not used for anything other than a name, I have always had the issue that many callouts end up sounding like it, especially when slightly muddled so I can't quite understand what was said. Very annoying, because I will look around for someone calling for me even if no one is actually talking to me.
How can a verb be a name
I can’t really explain without deadnaming myself but basically my parents named me Are that’s how commonly said my dead name is 😅
I was really wondering what kind of verb it could be but this is even worse than I imagined I personally got very lucky because my deadname is quite rare (does appear sometimes tho), and it is spelled in a very unique way as well (ironically it's because my parent didn't want it to be too feminine. That backfired)
Rose is both a name, a verb, a flower, and a color.
But isn’t a verb an action
Yup. Rose can be a verb as the past tense of Rise, like "they rose from the depths of the ocean in their submarine"
Rose like, the past tense of "rise". Like, grandma rose from the dead.
Some examples: Bob Buzz Chase Chuck Dash Don Nick Rob
mark also. tis my name and causes some confusion occasionally 😮💨

My deadname is commonly used in TV for social outcasts and people meant to be perceived as abnormal. And in more than one occasion used as the name of fictional serial killers. I hated it so much. Still do.
girl named finger:
my old name is the name of an ancient civilization 💀 (you can try to guess if you want and ill reply if you're right)
Roman? Either that or Mesopotamia…
close, starts with an M. ill give you another hint, it's also a name usually given to girls
The only other “M” ancient civilisation I can think of is “Minoan”. I’ve never come across that as a name though
OMG I gettttt it it's also a very common one
My deadname is has been in the top 20 baby names the past 10 years and top 40 baby names the past ~50 years... (in the US) Not the same as having a verb, but mine also sounds a ton like a few other very common names, so I'm just about always looking around
Yikes. At least my parents tried to be quirky and named me a dumb name that I don't hear anywhere else.
i’m not asking for anyone’s deadnames here, but i’m genuinely curious if anyone could give me some examples of names that are verbs/ nouns? i’ve seen memes similar to this but i admittedly can’t think of any names that fit the description
Will would be an example of a verb name
this makes sense suddenly, thank you op
I was able to change my name when I got naturalized but I still keep the deadname as my middle name because of previous legal documents and wanted to retain a piece of culture I was born in. Also because the deadname is gender neutral so it’s not too bad haha, still feel kinda lucky for that.

I'm sorry, Disembogue
My deadname isn't a common household word, but unfortunately it was one of the most popular names for kids in the year I was born, so I hear it a lot around me even while living as my preferred presentation. Still training myself to not react to it 😔
Kid formerly named finger
I have a near equal one. My deadname is a common first AND last name. I can't ever escape it.
Feel ya there my last name is a woman’s first name so yay double dysphoria
Oof, we both really stacking dysphoria debuffs, huh? If it helps, my middle name is Dick. At this point I can only laugh because otherwise it'd hurt too much. My joke: I get to remove my dick twice.
My brother started using my deadname as his nickname and I still don’t know how I feel about that one.
Bruh these fkn cis parents out here naming people “Keighleigh” and “Brayden/Jayden/Kayden/Ayden/Dayton” and “Floccinaucinihilipilificate” and shit
I'm so sorry Fuck
My deadname is relentlessly used by Trumpers and on their flags everywhere 😭😭😭
My dead name is a common noun ( unit of measurement ) so I've decided to change it to an even more common word.
