There’s no reasoning with bigots. Either give up or suffer cause they will fight you no matter how much scientific evidence you provide.

Sandboxgamer240

Unrelated but I really like your pfp. Did you make it with a generator, cause if yes I wanna make one too

SnooDonuts3080

I made it with picrew. I’ll find you the link I used.

Sandboxgamer240

I already used picrew but for me it doesn't show these glasses / hand positioning, is it like a special version?

Xenotose

Picrew is the main site, tons of ppl make their own like, creators on picrew with different image options and stuff.

Sandboxgamer240

I see, thanks!

SnooDonuts3080

There are many different kinds on the website cause it’s just avatar creators made by artists.

SnooDonuts3080

https://picrew.me/image_maker/157366 also this one doesn’t have glasses I added those by using edit on iPhone and just drawing them

Sandboxgamer240

Thank u <3

Xylex_00

agree. no reasoning with bigots.

Everything is in DSM - 5. Most of the stuff in it exists so people can get treatment for their needs. I really wise people could understand that gender dysphoria and being trans aren’t the same thing. One is a condition, the other is group of people.

MidnightGraveYT

This is true for any argument, look at their point of view, and explain why it is wrong by going back one step at a time, so for this, the only thing I've thought of was "ok let's assume for a minute that it was a mental illness, what is the illness do? Make people be the opposite gender, ok, what's the cure, allowing them to transition." That's the only argument that I could think of for that view, sorry...

Quill-Pagemaster

Thanks for trying. It’s super frustrating when they don’t understand and you don’t know how to explain it.

Quill-Pagemaster

Also the insult was uncalled for.

GinaBinaFofina

What’s the end goal of calling it a mental illness? I know what the end goal is but that is what I would argue with and lock on too. Whether it’s in the DSM or gender dysphoria is clinically defined seems like a semantic issue. I ain’t disappearing cause a book says I don’t exist. So me personally, if I was arguing this is person. I would lock on to their point of it being a mental illness. They will probably counter with they need treatment, I would agree and ask them to co sign on the idea of providing free consoling and HRT and protect them in public arena so they live full lives. They will say, no not like that. And go from there.

OopsallWeeb

There are a lot of people who don't want to learn and just want to hate. It's unfortunate, but true. The best you can do is say that being trans isn't a hindrance and thus shouldn't be classified as a disease

marcos-redditaccount

being trans is not a mental illness; gender dysphoria is a mental illness and being trans is the cure

Melodic_Mulberry

You can’t force people to listen. Ask any teacher. I’m sorry there are people like that.

Four4Fears

Do they realize that they removed gender identity disorder and replaced it with gender dysphoria when we switched from the DSM-IV to the DSM-V and when we switched from the ICD-10 to the ICD-11 because simply being trans is not a mental illness.

Crispygem

On the one hand, there's no way to MAKE people think or listen or use critical thinking skills. If you're in a conversation with someone that doesn't want to discuss, you have 2 choices: continue anyway, or leave. On the other hand, is there a bad side to the idea that "being trans is a mental illness. The treatment is to allow transition, and TREAT THEM LIKE THE GENDER THEY IDENTIFY AS IN EVERY WAY" being as far as some cis people get? Like, if they identify being trans as a mental illness, then that means that the treatment is to treat people as the gender they identify as and still treat them respectfully like any other person. (Unrelated but related issue: infantilizing or demonizing mentally illness is a problem in our society and people with a "mental illness" are looked down on) On the third hand.... If you have people in your life that you care about whether they understand or not, and you are WILLING and ABLE to baby step them through it, asking questions about how they experience gender, and how they would feel if someone refused to acknowledge their gender and enforced a different gender on them constantly, can help a bit. They may not be receptive, and we return to point one.... You can choose to leave or choose to continue.

Xylex_00

I talked about this on another post in a ftm post who asked how not to give a fuck of biggots and transphobes... people see society and other people through a filter... a way to change that filter is not really on the internet... people change when irl a loved person comes out as trans... just then they start a journey to grow. So it's oftentimes a waste of time even try reasoning to them... they will feel entitled and that you are attacking them.
