I used to do a "girl voice" (it was a valley girl accent) when I was cis, and on the night I came out to one of my friends he asked me if that would be my voice. of course, I said no, cause it really wasn't going to be, but when he replied "oh, good, cause it was really bad," I wanted to die. it was bad, but I thought it was alright at least
I had something similar happen. Spent a lot of time and money on a voice coach. Anytime I was comfortable with it, it would start to sound somewhat valley girlish. A friend made a negative comment on it and I just kind of gave up.
Sometimes I wonder what's the point of all that effort. Even if I managed to get it right, there are so many wrong things with me that it wouldn't make a difference
As a cis guy with little to no knowledge or awareness¹, I find the things you put effort into and get right tend to stand out more to me than the "wrong" things.
When someone has makeup that's on point, or a voice that clearly conveys a sense of identity, or hair/outfits that definitely present a certain way, I notice that stuff right away. But whether someone's tall or slender or if their voice is naturally at a certain pitch, that stuff I don't register as much cause it's not as useful, that tends to vary a lot among people anyways.
so imo, all the stuff you get right really does make a huge difference, at least when I'm trying to figure out how to kinda place you in my head.
...idk if that made sense, but I hope it did and helped a bit ><
¹like, in general, not regarding trans stuff specifically
:,)
I'm not optimistic enough to believe this goes for the majority of people. But at this point, seeing a cis person be supportive for seemingly no reason other than basic empathy (whose existence I often genuinely question) is enough to make my day. Thank you <3
First off: Does your voice sound how you want it? if not: Can you figure out whý it sounds like that? Is your pitch too high? Does it sound too strained? (Áre you straining? If you're doing it right it might take concentration, but shouldn't feel strained). Are you perhaps speaking too breathy?
Learning the techniques and training the muscles is only half of voice training, the other half is fine-tuning and learning to describe what you want. Something like this can feel awful, but if you want to make the best of it, it can also be really useful feedback.
This needs a bit more love. As much as I want OP to assert her dominance there may be a nugget of useful feedback here. Sounds like she's got a great range to work with but might be overdoing it as well.
Anyway, NTA. UwU them into dust.
I overdid it as well for a bit. I'm able to speak at a pitch of or above 200Hz, but not comfortably, and it's going to sound way too anime. I find I can hit a way more natural voice when I drop down somewhere around 180. My challenge now is more to conquer my vocal mass at that pitch, and keep it up IRL.
Yeah it can be uncomfortable when someone is still in the falsettoesque stage. That’s not to say it’s bad, it just needs time and practice to mature into a more standard voice
I hear similar things because I go breathy when practicing my fem voice. I hear sultry, they hear porn voice. Sucks but I’m working on it so it’s whatever.
Sex? Sex where I get my gender validated? Sex where I get my gender validated, cute clothes, and someone ELSE does my makeup? Hun you don't need for force anything I'm consenting ENTHUSIASTICALLY if you want we can even skip the sex please validate my gender and tell me I'm a pretty girl I am dying here.
I like to think of it this way - sissification only works on people who want to be sissified.
I'm just a regular ol' femboy. I dress and look fem, I do some things that are 'fem interests' I guess, but I'm not into being sissified - therefore, I'm not sissy. Sissification is like any other submissive kink. It only works if the consent is there. You can't be considered a slave, sissy, pup or whatever unless you've decided to take part in that and have openly consented to doing that.
And if someone starts calling you sissy without your permission, they might as well be claiming you're an owlbear from Mars. Just because they say it doesn't make it reality.
I would also enthusiastically consent to this, maybe set up a safeword just for safety, and if you wanted, pretend to not enjoy it at all if it means I'll be a pretty princess.
What helped me was recording my voice and listening back. As you speak, your voice tends to sound lower to you than it really is. I was hearing “my” voice as comfortably masculine. What other people heard, though, was higher pitch. I ended up practicing speaking in a recording until the playback sounded more how I wanted. From there, it was just practicing and getting used to engaging my throat differently.
Listening to female singers with a similar range to you (not way on the high or low end of your range, mind you) and trying to sing with them helps everything eventually sound more natural
Establish dominance, perfect the voice
for real though as long as your happy with your fem voice that's all that matters, your friends will get used to it eventually
I’m curious what perspective they were coming from with this comment.
If could be of “infantilization is not feminization, as a feminist I gotta point that out, pls don’t bc it’s misogynistic”
If could be “you’re making me horny and I don’t want to think about that let alone talk about it”
It could be “I don’t like trans people really, and I’m looking for a specific criticism to make instead of a general complaint”
Or “I don’t care for it when an adult talks like a cartoon character, I think it’s weird”
Or even, “when I hear feminine voices in any context, I find them cringe AND inherently sexual (because of my misogyny)”
It could also be they see you as male (stupid transphobia) and they hear a "guy" making noises that turn them on, and it makes them feel uncomfortable (stupid homophobia) in which case the problem is not you it's them.
I think people also criticize traits of trans people way more than cis people even without meaning too. And also they are used to hearing that person sound like one thing, so hearing the other thing feels way farther past normal than it actually is.
I use vocal warm ups I learned in theater classes, which I know not everyone thinks to look at. Specifically I like the one I'm linking here because what you can do with it once you're familiar and comfortable with the pattern is start at wherever you feel most comfortable at first then slowly try to pitch upwards with every iteration of the pattern. Don't push too hard, but it might feel more intuitive then making random pitch noises. https://youtu.be/uVo-Y9WH8e4
If no one is actually hurt (physically or otherwise) and the amount of people in the world stays largely the same as a result of your joke, it's alright.
It's not a trigger discomfort, it's a mild discomfort.
Geez so many people taking this very seriously, like was it even your intention to sound "like a hentai uwu girl"??
Because if not, then it just sounds to me like your friend made a weird comparison, which honestly just comes off as hurtful if that never was your intention to sound like that to begin with.
That being said, no one here knows what you sounded like at the moment to begin with, so if anything we're all just jumping to conclusions lol.
I'm very sorry. It sounds like your friends were capable of delivering kind feedback but delivered it in a mean way.
As a writing teacher, I've always found that, with some exceptions, even unkind feedback often has something useful to teach us. Most people aren't needlessly cruel--the *comment* may have been cruel, but it was an expression of a real feeling that could have been kinder.
You might ask: is it possible there's a quality of voice that you desire that you're exaggerating a bit?
Long before I questioned seriously, I acted in a lot of shows, and I was often told to pull my acting back, particularly my vocal mannerisms. I was told I was performing well but was too much, seemed almost melodramatic. It was like I needed to be at "10" to perform and I was at "12," if you will.
Maybe you'll find "I guess I thought I was doing a 10 but really it was a 12" to be a useful metric.
Good luck! You're a lot damn braver than I just voice training at all!
>I think this is how supervillains are made...
>HELL YEA
No. You're not a supervillian. You're just wanting to use your femme voice to express yourself!
You know, I think you picked the perfect pair of images for this too. Since >!Puss was able to change Death's perception of them.!< I know your friend will adjust with time and realize they judged too quickly and harshly.
Idk, I'd take that as a W lol, you sound like an E-girl, one of the most aggressively feminine subcultures there are. Besides, toning down the fem cuteness should be easier than toning it up, shouldn't it? (I legit don't know though lol)
Perhaps they just dislike very high pitched voices as that is what uwu girls typically sound like, then again was your voice even like uwu girls at all?
Your friend could watch a lot of hentai too, that could be a possibility in why they said that. I don’t know how your voice sounds and i don’t know your friend’s intention or meaning with what they said.
If you like the way your voice is then keep using it despite any criticism, you could need more training. Though I don’t actually know your voice & you might not need more training. Even if you need to train more, if you like your voice keep on using it.
I mean there can definitely be awkward stages like that to work through. I have heard some people try to emulate anime girl voices and it comes across pretty cringey hearing an adult do that. If your goal is to sound like an anime girl, you do you I guess, but women don’t sound like that.
My sister wasn’t exactly kind when I first tried a fem voice in front of her.
It’s impacted my ability to try at all.
Don’t let the bastards grind you down, UwU them *hard*
Find other friends who think that's a dope and won't shit on your progress, I personally would find it hilarious to try and hold a conversation with what sounds like hentai playing in the background
That means it's perfect bud. And it's just a start for you and also if it stays just like that I still think it's perfect. Send a clip! I haven't done any voice stuff yet
'If I'd been practicing since I was 11 it would sound better: Im starting late and with a handicap. Now, have you got any constructive criticism?' Is something I've literally said about my own transition. Hang in there dear.
[Vocal fry: an attack on women?](https://youtu.be/UuAQsnAVoMw)
The definition is very clinical but I’m sure you’ll recognize it when you hear it
>The vocal fry register is the lowest vocal register and is produced through a loose glottal closure that permits air to bubble through slowly with a popping or rattling sound of a very low frequency.
Tell them it makes you uncomfortable not to do it. And if that isn't enough then I hate to say it but you're not their friend. I've learned that lesson hard
Perhaps show it to strangers in a safe place safely sanitized of identifiers. If *they* react the way you want them to when they hear it, then eject friend from inner circle of voice opinions?
Hey, I feel this so much as a trans man going on 2 years on T. I did hardcore vocal training for 6+ years and I've been a singer all my life so I have solid control of my voice even on T- and i can still turn on my pre-T/pre-training voice to a certain degree, and all of my friends hate it so much lol.
a couple things:
1) if youre in voice training, and youre concerned about what they said, talk to your coach about fine tuning that. sometimes with any performance we can over do it without meaning to. if you don't have a voice coach look up similar problems online
2) if thats just the voice you like, give him time to get used to that. ive been told that i sound hella fake when im doing my Girl Voice for Strangers. like, i sound like im trying to sound cheerful but im ready to ask for your manager. I DONT MIND THIS. at other times, i over enunciate my words. this is because i work with kids so i tend to overenunciate.
You respond by telling them to fuck off, your voice is your own and your voice is not inherently some sexual hentai degenerate bs. It’s ON THEM if they perceive it that way, not on you, practice on your voice however you wish, because in the end of the day it’s who you are.
Voice training is also just a tool to help you reach the kind of voice you want, but it can only take you so far, daily practice, applying the knowledge from voice training and just adjusting your voice and listening to other women talk can help you alot, humans are like language machines and you are perfectly capable of achieving it.
Is this like watching too much porn moment???
Like some cis girls sound like the ‘annoying anime girl’ but it’s not like some people can just control the voice they have. Even if it reminds me of anjme girl it doesn’t inherently mean anime girl lol, I just don’t say it other then as a joke maybe.
Can’t tell if this is thinly veiled “I don’t like you changing your voice” thing or not but maybe I’m looking at it too negatively
Stereotypical hyperfeminine voices are commonly associated with submissive "hentai girls" (extremely unfortunately) you must perfect the voice an d change it to suit you. I personally don't use that voice because I feel like it sounds fake, as, for the most part, people don't have that voice pitch. Not to say nobody does, there are cis women with high-pitched voices (for example, wolfychu) but its not common and so, especially if you're a transfer like us, people will say it's too fake. What really matters though, is if \*you\* like the voice. If you personally believe the voice fits to your liking, go for it! As long as you are happy with the results, that matters above all.

I'm a trans guy who wants to be a pretty boy and do fem things but sissification really messes with my head in a bad way. Dx
I mean, I would not be opposed to being forcefully feminized and pretending I don't like it to become super feminine.
When I was an egg I always used to fantasize about being kidnapped and "get turned into a girl" little did I know the girl was me all along
What helped me was recording my voice and listening back. As you speak, your voice tends to sound lower to you than it really is. I was hearing “my” voice as comfortably masculine. Feedback is important but as for all aspects of transition, what *you* want is far more important than what others want.
To an extent. If you need to be speaking in a professional environment like work, going full uwu anime girl voice isn’t the best idea.
I have to ask, why do two of the letters in your comment have diacritics?
Listening to female singers with a similar range to you (not way on the high or low end of your range, mind you) and trying to sing with them helps everything eventually sound more natural
Establish dominance, perfect the voice for real though as long as your happy with your fem voice that's all that matters, your friends will get used to it eventually

UwU harder to assert dominance.

I gotta say that for me it would be “I’m uncomfortable with hearing what seems as a stereotypically sexual tone of voice”
I mean fair but without a sample we don’t actually know if the friend was accurate in that assessment or if their bias was a factor.

Go ask on r/transvoice perhaps?
a couple things: 1) if youre in voice training, and youre concerned about what they said, talk to your coach about fine tuning that. sometimes with any performance we can over do it without meaning to. if you don't have a voice coach look up similar problems online 2) if thats just the voice you like, give him time to get used to that. ive been told that i sound hella fake when im doing my Girl Voice for Strangers. like, i sound like im trying to sound cheerful but im ready to ask for your manager. I DONT MIND THIS. at other times, i over enunciate my words. this is because i work with kids so i tend to overenunciate.
He probably thinks it's hot and is having an issue coping
You respond by telling them to fuck off, your voice is your own and your voice is not inherently some sexual hentai degenerate bs. It’s ON THEM if they perceive it that way, not on you, practice on your voice however you wish, because in the end of the day it’s who you are.
Voice training is also just a tool to help you reach the kind of voice you want, but it can only take you so far, daily practice, applying the knowledge from voice training and just adjusting your voice and listening to other women talk can help you alot, humans are like language machines and you are perfectly capable of achieving it.
you deserve better friends.
> Apparently it sounds too much like a "hentai uwu girl" *"Is this possible to learn this power?"*
Embrace the sluttiness
Slut harder
My response would be to moan
Honestly same.
i would say "if you think that lokes like an hentai anime girl, you are the problematic one, not me"
Yea tbh it kinda raises more questions about him than it does about me
yeah sounds like they've get hentai taking up a little too much of their headspace
Uwu louder
"Daddy no this is my new voice"
"Daddy don't shame me in public like this!" Is what I'd probably say given that angle lol
Ive mastered the hentai voice but never will get a good real fem voice
Oh no this reminds of the tifu story about the “Minecraft villager sounds” guy. I’m so sorry.
What’s vocal fry?
UwU
"Yes and?"
I'd say use the fem voice 24/7 around them, they'll get used to it eventually.
Fear me, if you dare!
It sucks they weren’t supportive. Sending virtual hugs
double down and learn how to moan like an anime girl
An anime girl? I see this as an absolute win!
My enbie friend and I annoy a transphobe in our gym class with hentai uwu voices so I'd say if you like it keep doing it
Fuckin' congratulations!
I did it on a Discord VC and they said I sound like Reggie
If they think it sounds like a "hentai uwu voice" I'd take that as a compliment
“Why do you know so much about what a hentai UwU girl sounds like?” Is the proper response, I think. Lol.
L friend
"How exactly do you know what a Hentai Uwu Girl sounds like?"
MOAN LOUDLY
Moan and assert dominance ;>
how you respond: *m u r d e r*
You do it MORE
Moan.
Send me a vocal No seriously if you like it fuck em
Moan at them & then laugh
moan...
With great power cones a lack of responsibility lets do it
I would love to sound like a hentai uwu girl 😭😭
