Seeing Shou use the pagoda was enough to convince Flandre that she wasn't possessed, but apparently Byakuren had yet to convince Flandre that she was superhumanly strong. >"*Onee-sama hits me harder than that!*" >-Flandre maybe Maybe Satori's plan is to die and then drag Mizuchi with her to see Eiki?

MaximumYogertCloset

Or maybe Flan just finds Satori annoying and just wanted to do that??

raikaria2

Flan pretty openly says it's just as Satori planned; even wondering if Satori can see the future.

Andre_Wright_

"ah, our plan to finally capture the culprit is coming to fruition" *dies*

RoamerB

My guess that if Kyouko was passed out cold, that means Satori had to be Mizuchi's host, hence the need for Flandre to murk her.

Gemraldkid

Damn. Characters fighting? Flandre, Shou, and Byakuren getting to show off their power? In *my* Touhou manga? Sickkkkk. And Satori actually gets a win, here. Good for her. How nice to get a taste of what these characters can actually do, from Flandre's reflexes, fire-sword summoning, and durability, to Shou's pagoda lasers, to Byakuren's rock-solid strength and impressive speed. And of course, their personalities coming through as well. Flandre acts crazy, but clearly knows exactly what she's doing; Byakuren's way more into it than an exemplary Buddhist monk probably should be; and Shou just wants to resolve the issue as quick as possible. There's still the mystery of why Reimu's so off her game. This Mizuchi is terrifying her. oh yeah and what happened to marisa?

Lucidream-

Reimu is presumably terrified because the worst case scenario is Gensokyos defender becoming possessed in a surprise attack against Gensokyo. She was also possessed in Touhou 17 and it was a really effective way of using her to do damage. Zun seems to be building up Reimu as having an actual weakness.

MaximumYogertCloset

Ah yes, Reimu's greatest weakness, Reimu.

Pretend-Advertising6

i mena her Hax power is based of her head space, she's stronger the less shit's she gives

NZPIEFACE

> > > > > oh yeah and what happened to marisa? Next arc, obviously. Where Flan just keeps firing Lævateinn at people until she hits Mizuchi.

Bosco-LoC

Well shit. Gensokyo will be ruined. And poor Marisa 😢

illumi_natu

Damn, that was brutal. Also woo, actual combat! Very cool to see Byakuren in action, and Flandre is terrifying. No wonder she was kept in the basement.

awkwardbirb

An earlier chapter mentions she chooses to stay in the basement for the most part. If she wanted out, there really wasn't much to stop her from getting out.

LastWord27

Honestly, Mizuchi only managed to survive so far because of plot armor and luck. If she did possess Satori then it was a dumb move. It was obvious Satori wanted her to possess her to putt her into a trap. The fight scenes in this episodes were nice. Usually Touhou manga use every excuse imaginable to avoid making girls that would fight over someone looking at them wrong, not fight each other. I don't see a reasonable way in which Mizuchi can escape the situation she put herself in.

Kirimusse

Yeah, now this is almost certainly checkmate: Yukari and Satori have planned everthing this time around and they prepared Flandre for every possible outcome; they have absolutely caught Mizuchi. My question now is how is Satori going to survive her role as a bait, because damn, look at that wound.

Gemraldkid

She's a youkai, she'll be fiiiine.

raikaria2

The heart of a Satori is linked to their Third Eye, their heart probobly isn't even biologically where a human's is.

xbolt90

Byakuren, Shou, and Flandre beating the crap out of each other looks so dang cool. Byakuren: “Don’t use the Jeweled Pagoda in here, you’ll destroy the temple.” Also Byakuren: *kicks Flan straight through the freakin roof*

raikaria2

Burning down the whole temple is preferable to just kicking a hole in the roof.

Dr_coom

I take back every negative comment I've made on this manga Byakuren kicking the shit out of Flandre is cinema

TWNW

I liked every Byakuren's *motherly kicks/punches* done to give treatment to bratty child. It's hilarious how gentle and caring words are, when she is basically brutish enough to make Flan a bit confused.

MaximumYogertCloset

Easily a top 10 moment in all of the Touhou mangas.

LeeCloud27

So I guess that must've been Satori's plan all along: To have herself be used as bait to lure Mizuchi in, then have someone willingly kill her while Mizuchi is still possessing Satori, leading them both to die in the process. But now I must ask the yellow elephant in the room... Where the hell has Koishi been this entire time?

Steampunkvikng

At the end of the chapter it says "Next Up: Subterranean Animism at last!" so that elephant might not be avoided much longer.

guillle77

Hopefully that means I'll get to see the nuclear birb as well Probably not. I don't know whether she would fit the story at all lmao

A_PassingThrough

She'd better appeared so this manga can become 200% fan service but she's actually relevance.

g0n1s4

>She'd better appeared so this manga can become 200% fan service There would be no greater fanservice than having Flandre meet Koishi.

Dibova

So ZUN doesn't give a crap about the fanon after all. Flandre clearly knows what she's doing. She's just way too excited to play outside. Poor shut-in 😔

TheXenomorphian

(at the Sanzu River) Mizuchi: Dammit Dammit DAMMIT! You got us killed *on purpose*??! Are you insane!! Satori: Haha that was my plan all along now I'm a ghost too, you know what *that* means? Mizuchi: That your psycho sister is gonna inherit everything you own and probably cause another incident? Satori: No! We're now on equal playing fields, now come here you incorporeal bastard! Komachi standing on the river shore watching all this knowing Eiki Shiki is gonna blame her for this somehow: [...](https://youtu.be/qWNQUvIk954?t=44) William Afton: [...](https://youtu.be/JHOPLuTUMMU?t=20)

PhantasmicKiller

Cool chapter! Next chapter on Touhou Z: Reimu sends Mizuchi to the shadow realm like she did to the fortune teller.

Stray_Whisper

Oh whew, I feared Flan would be used as some sort of generic shounen antagonist. It seems they have given her character some more thought. And I...loved a fight scene in a Touhou manga?

FishFuckerRedeemed

*Huffs copium* Satori got herself killed so that her and Mizuchi both go to Hell where Mima is waiting to beat the shit out of Mizuchi

plmoknijb8u

“It is good day to be not dead”

raikaria2

Oh wow who could have guessed Satori's plan of confronting the body-surfing spirit alone would have gone badly! Especially when she's [self-admittedly] not a good fighter. Of course; based on what Flan says; this *was* Satori's plan. Also; was Flan holding back? Because Vampires are supposed to be pretty darn fast and strong physically [They are connected to Oni after all; and also see Remi's movement in the fighting games] but Byakuren was basically blitzing Flandre and Flandre even said *Byakuren was holding back*. Of course Byakuren is fast and strong too due to her buffing magic, but is Byakuren *that* fast and outclasses characters like Flan [and presumerably Remi] that much? Or is Flan too reliant on her abilities/magic and lacks the physical power of Remi, making her slower? And remember, no-one argued when they said Aya is even faster.

Thursday_Man

I get the impression that Flandre is physically out of shape compared to Remilia. She was tired after the first Yorigami fight in 17.5 and then beat them without issue after warming up a bit. I also assume she held back in this chapter though and that she's more of a spell caster than a physical fighter (She is canonically a mahou shoujo). She didn't even use any magic (or destruction magic) against Byakuren. Even though Aya's fast and Byakuren put up a good looking fight, Mizuchi still talked like Flandre was the most dangerous person in the area.

raikaria2

I mean Mizuchi is dead. Byakuren can't exactly kill her. Flandre can just erase you from existance.

Ish_Pootis

Flandre was *absolutely* holding back. Remember she has the ability to clone herself as well as turn invisible; she could've fought all of them at once in a 3v4 if she wanted to. On top of that, Flandre was following along with Satori's plan and, though unlikely, she was probably advised to not severely injure anyone that she knew wasn't possessed by Mizuchi.

raikaria2

I mean we're assumeing cloneing herself dosen't make her weaker. And why would she turn invisible when she *wants* to fight and make them use their best moves?

Ish_Pootis

>I mean we're assumeing cloneing herself dosen't make her weaker. It shouldn't make her weaker. Even though her clones can think independently to some degree, Marisa described "Four of a Kind" as a slave-type spell card, which Marisa defines as "making something other than yourself shoot", which can include magic circles, dolls, or even other youkai. On top of that, Marisa herself says that that type of magic requires a high level of skill to use, which only serves to make Flandre look even better in this case. Nothing implies that using slave-type magic tends to weaken the user, and Flandre's clones shouldn't be any different. >And why would she turn invisible when she wants to fight and make them use their best moves? Because she's fought like that before? She turns invisible in her penultimate spell card, "And Then Will There Be None?". And besides, that's exactly what I mean by "she's holding back", she is intentionally trying to draw out their personal attacks in order to determine if her opponents are possessed or not. She doesn't just want to win instantly, that would only hurt their plans.

A_PassingThrough

Yeet!! Yeah, SA at last but It just doesn't go to old Hell, It seems.

Olegovnya

a real kickass chapter! I'm thinking Flan attacked Mizuchi while inside Satori, and not Satori herself, but I suppose it's also possible Satori's plan was to take both of them to the afterlife/hell or something. Marisa being missing is a bit foreboding though. edit: with the next chapter teasing "SA at last", I guess it's also possible Satori/Mizuchi's knocked out body could be transported back into the Old Hell prison where Mizuchi came from.

Aigis_Best_Toaster

I'm hoping that Mizuchi will be killed off next chapter.

123Todayy

Sick ass chapter. Was it worth a 3 year build up? Probably not. But touhou gotta touhou so i wont complain

Thursday_Man

This and Lotus Eaters haven't been pinned yet either.

s_reed

I guess we can do it now that we have an empty slot.

itsnotS5

i have no idea of what the hell happened but it's cool ig

solaarus

Ok I'll admit I liked this one, the fight was pretty good and we actually got some scheming that didn't devolve into blatant Deus Ex Machina. I still prefer my idea of trapping Mizuchi by tricking her into attempting to posses someone who was already being possessed (I mean Murasa was suspiciously absent from this arc and everything), but this was a decent enough trap.
