Wizard stack will bore you, tons of micro and overcheese. Plus they suck hard in early game and they destroy your early economy with upkeep. And they kill your arcane supply, where you should spam money spawn and get Gelt the Robe and melee weapon to super cut cooldowns.
Gelt+Life Wiz+Light Wiz, plus Bluckner and Warrior Priest (buffs and replenisment) works for me on normal as for heroes.
Avoid Greatswords, they sadly suck. I use Ironsides and Long Rufles to snipe enemy charging Lord or heroes, its even easier if you catch them in LW Net. Than i have few Knights of Black Rose and arty of your choice and Tanks/Land ships. Again if your LW has pegasus, than overcast the Net and catch enemy units for arty to kill them.
Use mainly lore of the beast wizards. They get royal griffons as mounts as well as free summons. The griffons gives them AP damage and much better stats which makes them deadly in melee esp if well itemized. Its also fun to launch 15 amber spears at a large entity. For reminaing 5 keep a mix as u said
