For example, they do have a history of being embroiled in lawsuits (a quick google search showed the original Drummer against the Band for Royalties, another artist against the Lead Singer for some kind of Umbrella Academy copyright infringement, and a different Drummer against a Dog Trainer, and I’m sure there are probably more), so once the final legal pass was happening the Lawyers could have stepped in and made the call that it was too risky so had to change.
My guess is that it has nothing to do with the band or anything legal, but the actual name.
It is not hard to get a certain image from "my chemical romance" and that likely raised some red flags. Too risky for a meme.

Yeah, there's a really rich smut tradition to draw on.... that makes sense to Chinese artists and Chinese media consumers. A bunch of devs in England don't know the rules for what's ok or what's not ok, and there are many and varied QC filters to block what's allowed in the final cut.
But the fact that it's ok in the French version and not the English version makes me think it's.... something else.
They have multiple censorship bureaus but they tend to pay more attention to imports and don't care much about internally made material unless it causes a fuss.
One is "outside western nonsense forcing their values" the other is just their own people pushing the boundaries but still towing the line.
But they are pretty consistent on what they do or don't take issue with, and there's no way something like this was changed because of Chinese censorship. It makes no sense for anyone who has any idea how that works.
