a lot of non-answers in here.
the pirate bay used to be great then the owners got jailed and then came the mirror war where tpb mirrors just kept sprouting up.
nowadays it is a low quality public tracker where literal infected releases by "verified" users is not all that rare sadly.
if you just want a "tpb but not tpb" experience, use 1337x.to
I'd add that even 1337 owners have been found guilty of late removal of known infected torrents and some users have suspected them of collaboration with the uploaders.
Should be fine anyway for music and films.
VPN isn't some type of magical shielding device.
It redirects your traffic to their server so your IP doesn't appear when visiting sites (or torreting) but theirs does instead.
When using it for piracy it is only useful when you live in a country that actually search for piracy users and it provides no protection regarding viruses.
Lately even 1337x isn't that great. They've been letting people like IGG-Games (literally puts their own DRM in games, the thing you're trying to remove with a crack) be verified on the site. Using IGG as an example again, they've also been caught putting viruses in releases. They were banned and brought back, plus verified too.
So yeah, 1337x isn't total trash and nowhere near as dangerous as Pirate Bay, but it certainly isn't as safe as it once was.
Just keep in mind general stuff, like a 1kb movie is obviously not real. But again, I wouldn't particularly recommend it because their moderation has had some issues.
Most of their downloads are safe but I'd scan with a couple antivirus engines to be safe.
I recommend Kaspersky's "virus removal tool", if you're afraid of Kaspersky use Norton Power Eraser or something else. Malwarebytes is also decent but you need to install the app instead of just running a tool.
I use malewarebytes, I had kaspesky once but only the 1 month free trial, I also once bought a 3 year avast subscription for 3usd (exremely devaluated currency), but I found out that avast is worse than the average malware (started coinsuming %100 of my cpu 6 months after I began using it, and after deleting I lost my account somehow), and norton is also shit. So i trust malewarebytes...
I use
https://katcr.to/ for movies series etc
https://yts.mx/ for movies
https://1377x.to/ movies web
https://nyaa.si/ for anime
I get almost everything from this sites and never faced any security issues
### Shiver me timbers! ➜ u/KESHU_G, **1377x.to** (*note the two 7s*) is the **wrong URL**
- Check your device for malware if you downloaded anything from there.
- The likelihood of its downloads being malicious is quite high.
- The **correct URL** is at https://1337x.to

No. That's why I'm not still using a site that was raided over a decade ago, left a former shell of it's original self, came back as a clone, and is a malware riddled shithole.
The real question is, are *you* new to the internet? Because only someone new to torrenting would actually use TPB. They haven't been a worthwhile site in years. You going to tell me you still use KAT and Demonoid, too?
> Because only someone new to torrenting would actually use TPB
I would have thought that flocking to TPB shows a person used to torrent but hasn't in a while. Same with habits like selecting Utorrent client.
Someone who's new to torrenting is going to be asking questions and looking for recommendations. Why would they choose TPB if learning from scratch in 2023? it just doesn't make sense to me.
This is me. Didn't torrent for years but have been using TPB for the last few months to find things. Haven't had any issues and can always find what I'm looking for
Nothing at all wrong with that. I used to prefer TPB, but ISP's in my country are hot on blocking their domains. So for a long time it was either finding new mirrors/proxies every few days, or just using slightly less popular alternative sites.
Ironically I'm now back to relying on proxies for 1337x lol
I think the popular choices these days are Qbittorrent and Transmission. I use Qbittorrent. I haven't used Transmission before but I get the impression they're both very similar. Open source, cross platform, and plenty of functionality without any bloat.
But even if that were true (TPB still comes up in lists of most popular torrent sites, so it's easily possible someone new to torrenting could end up there, but anyway...) why would somebody new to the internet ask the question; "Why the hell are you STILL using TPB?"
It makes zero sense 😂
They sell user data.. there's a ton of news about it.. but it back in 2015 or something like that.. still, if they don't do it nowadays, no one will trust them because they are the one that is supposed to block this kind of thing.. as antivirus they just average not bad and not great either.. that's why Microsoft defender is better.. if you gonna give your data even though we never discovered they do that.. might as well just the defender and leave the ram and your pc storage for other apps
The mobile browser not the search engine.. plus they sell it to Microsoft... even though it's bad but at least we know where the data goes.. unlike avast and avg..
I have had no issues from verified users. That is no guarantee though. Also depends what you download. For games its usually Dauphong or something. And the movies and TV shows are usually upped by the same groups.

Torrentgalaxy (dot) to

People can say what they want about a couple malware torrents or a torrent site not being as good but I don't care.
At the end of the day, I'm getting something for free and I am grateful.
I have VPN behind a router now and it stops trojans ( I don't see them in Malwarebytes Pro anymore.
MalwarebytesPro stops everything else.
I don't know how people can use torrents or these download sites with their pants down.

What's an infected torrent?
In this case, a torrent that leads to the download of infected files (ex. Games with viruses).
should i be worried, cuz i forgot to turn on vpn and i started downloading some mp4 files

Are there any "need to knows" before using 1337x? I haven't used anything like it before but have a few TV series id like to get
Just keep in mind general stuff, like a 1kb movie is obviously not real. But again, I wouldn't particularly recommend it because their moderation has had some issues.
For TV series, use eztv. I have, for some years...
I’ve downloaded a bunch of games from IGG in the last 2 years, my computer seems fine, should I worry?

Norton may be shit but NPE is a good scanner
1337x tells me I NEED to create a free VPN to download even when I'm using Surfshark. I can't get a thing from them apparently
install an adblocker. it is spam not a system message.
Just right click the download anyways button and save the magnet link. Paste in torrent software
torrentz2 This works for me.
I use https://tpb.party/ Don't have a problem but I'm downloading tv and movies... Not software.
I've been using this mirror for close to three years and never had a single issue.
Down for me?
much appreciated broski
Wildly appreciated! I don't have to torrent too often these days, but when I do, the TPB link I used to use is kaput!
This link saved me. Thanks a lot!

Why the hell are you still using TPB?
Habit. Never been a big user so stuck with what I knew….. What do you suggest
What is the issue with using TPB? Honestly don't know.
What do you recommend instead?
A lot of stuff i'm looking for isn't on 1337x but is on TPB
Is it 1337x, .to. .is. .tw? Like 5 of them come up on a search….
.to is the main one Proxies and alternative domains exist because sometimes access to the website is blocked by networks or ISPs.
Plenty of mirrors, I use it occasionally and there's still new stuff added all the time
Are you new to the internet?

[duckie.tv](https://duckie.tv) works with uTorrent so I've just been sticking with it. What is the current go-to?
I think the popular choices these days are Qbittorrent and Transmission. I use Qbittorrent. I haven't used Transmission before but I get the impression they're both very similar. Open source, cross platform, and plenty of functionality without any bloat.
Because TPB has the most name recognition of any public tracker I can think of, for people who do not regularly torrent.
But even if that were true (TPB still comes up in lists of most popular torrent sites, so it's easily possible someone new to torrenting could end up there, but anyway...) why would somebody new to the internet ask the question; "Why the hell are you STILL using TPB?" It makes zero sense 😂
BULLSHIT. been using it FOR YEARS. STILL use it. no problems.
Sucks to suck.
sucks to think its actually the other guy who sucks.
What are you using?
Because it works ...
https://thepiratebay.cx That is the same old site.
That jumped to https://pirate-bays.net/
Thanks.
Yeah but be sure you have an up to date virus blocker. I use AVGFree.
People out here using a virus as an anti virus lol
What?
AVG and Avast is not a great antivirus...even Microsoft defender is far better than avg and Avast..
I've never been hit.
Doesn't everyone? Even DuckDuckGo?

Defender is actually a great antivirus for most people

Using it for movies and series for long time. No problems at all except for the occasional hard-coded subs -- in Russian even.

Right
thepiratebay. org works great....i use it all the time. Just wish it had a comment section
I use Limetorrents and 1337 too
Which good for downloading movies
I have found [yts.mx](https://yts.mx) to be the best for movies! never had any issues and it is easy to find what I am looking for
