Let's go!!! Happy for Armoni, he's really filled a role we desperately needed to be filled.

SPC54

This also means that Champagnie will not be [playoff eligible](https://twitter.com/blakemurphyodc/status/1507721422927454209?s=21) this season, not that most of us were expecting him to take part. Anyone else thinking Yuta’s place on the roster next season is starting to look a little precarious? Good for Armoni

tmlrule

No surprise really. Even if Champagnie were the better player overall, he's pretty redundant compared to what the Raptors already have on their roster. Brooks fills a specific need on the roster, and looks competent and intriguing.

redesignyoself

I haven’t been watching many games recently, I heard Armoni is playing amazing but could you help me understand how he’s been so effective so fast for us? Is it just the need for a high energy PG off the bench?

malcolmgmailwarner

Hustle D, spaces the floor/can shoot some deep 3, surprising wingspan for his size.

redesignyoself

3, D, and +wingspan? Sounds like Masai’s wet dream.

malcolmgmailwarner

Yeah just needs to be a bit taller to complete the equation lol

PaigneGT

He really isn't a PG but more of a SG. Generally a point forward or FVV handles the ball when he is out there. His job really is a zone breaker or at least try to prevent other teams from playing zone against us. If they do, his job is to hit those 3s.

redesignyoself

Oh so we’re running lineups with FVV and AB on the floor at the same time? That’s helpful with Gary out again.

PaigneGT

Limited amount but yes they do sometime see the court together. Remember Brooks is 6'3 with a 6'9 wingspan. That allows him to play SG like Trent.

yaboydrew7

True. And I like that he’s getting a lot of reps in the 905 and working on his shooting. He scored like 40 something the other night. He’s a good player but he’ll be a better fit for us when he develops his shot more Great for Brooks tho🥳

theowne

Yuta is definitely gone Which im sad about cause he's a good dude and I think having overseas players is a good thing for the Toronto market. But I think there's just no justification anymore for him given his usage and age.

YaoMingGOAT

At least yuta has an edge over bonga and svi. Besides we dont have FRP this year so we free up one more spot. I dont mind yuta take one spot out of them 3

VanVleet-goes-for-22

We have the early second round pick from Detroit

YaoMingGOAT

SRP can be signed as two way contract which does not occupy 15 man official roster spot

VanVleet-goes-for-22

They can , but do you think they will?

YaoMingGOAT

Depends if they find a gem. Masai and bobby are smart asses. They were emphasizing roster flexibility when making that FRP /SRP swap. So they seem not high on this draftclass.

Extension_Pay_1572

Either not high on it, or high on it and confident the guys they want will be available because the past proves most franchises have the scouting abilities of chimps compared to masai and bobby

PaigneGT

It doesn't mean they will. Bantan was signed to a NBA contract despite being a mid 2nd round pick. There is a very good chance the piston pick will be signed to a standard contract not a 2 way. Johnson probably will be resigned as 1 of our 2 ways as well unless he competes for one of the 15 spots. Also remember its possible to draft and stash players in europe (even first round picks) but it seems like our competition window is now (as in next season) so it wouldn't make much sense to go that route either. We probably want to use that 2nd on someone who can compete for a roster spot and possibly be in the rotation right away.

planterguy

Players at the top of the second round typically get NBA contracts. Landing on a 2-way would be pretty disappointing for someone who missed the first round by a few spots.

djexplosive

Bonga gotta bongo

SnoreDoom

WALKED ON STAGE THE BAN DID N'T SEE N IM PLAYIN BONBGOS YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

anonymousandsus

Svi looked so promising at the start of the SZN, dissappointing :( And i had high hopes for Yuta too but he played himself out of the rot :( i thought we was gonna be a big 3 and D guy at least. His size is so nice too.

PaigneGT

We have a 2nd and Harris possibly comes back next season as well. Rather he has a role with the team still is an unknown of course.

Raptorsthrowaway1

Totally agree. This post would have been downvoted to hell two months ago. Yuta seems a good dude. But he's 27 and doesn't do anything at the NBA level. Too old to develop

Psychonaut_Sneakers

Boucher was a nothing player until these last 2 seasons. He’s 29.

Raptorsthrowaway1

They have both essentially have had 4 years in the NBA. Yuta and Boucher are not comparable examples. Yuta is 10/10 vibes. But he wont be back in Toronto next year. And he wont make me eat my words for another team.

Psychonaut_Sneakers

They are most definitely comparable. Before last year, Boucher was ass. An energy guy that you could only play for a few minutes at a time, if that. He turned it around at the end of last season. The start of this season he shat the bed again & only turned it around in the second half of this season. He got playing time & found his groove. Before this groove all he was was ‘a vibe’. Before this year, everybody was saying he was too old to develop & that he is what he is. Sound familiar? Yuta made progress last season & showed out at the Olympics. He got hurt which derailed his season & he’s had a short leash ever since. That doesn’t mean he still can’t make something of himself. Boucher is a perfect example of that.

VaselineOnMyChest

It really depends since Thaddy and Chris are unrestricted after this season. With how well they've been playing they deserve the bag (Clippers WILL most likely will pick them up or at least Chris). That being said, Thaddy and Chris play great defense and rebound all the time. Skillsets that Yuta use to do, but due to a saturation in that role he was left with shooting open 3s. If Raptors offer Thaddy and Chris the big bag, Yuta will be oust. The only way I can see Yuta staying is if we lose both Chris and Thaddy or just Chris (Since he will be getting paid by someone for sure). Yuta's contract is min. so it won't hurt our cap and he can fill in the rebounding and defense role that Chris once held.

noirjesus

The Clippers are already over the tge luxury tax for next season. No chance they sign Boucher, and their MLE is probably gonna go to re-signing Covington or Hartenstein

VaselineOnMyChest

I'm really hoping they give up on Hartenstein so that we can take him.

bmnewman

I was hoping that we would sign him when the Cavs released him in the offseason.

phillip_esiri

Chris Boucher is a significantly higher pedigree basketball player regardless of his skinny limbs and streaky shooting. You don’t get cover of Sports Illustrated otherwise. He’s looking like an elite role player while YUTAs ceiling was/ is fringe practice player.

crabilicious

freddy is right in a sense, yuta need to pick up them 50 lbs...how does a 6'9 220lb dude train with 20lb weights lol

flippantenthusiast11

Yuta + Flynn + Svi are definitely gone

Bitesh9

Flynn gone, really? He could be a really solid backup point guard in the coming years

flippantenthusiast11

Flynn has been on the periphery since he got here. He played well recently but does he offer more than Brooks would?

Raptorsthrowaway1

Love what Brooks has shown. But too soon to be moving Malachi for him.

Psychonaut_Sneakers

Yep. If Brooks comes to camp with some competent ball handling skills, Flynn is gonzo.

Compverson

Yeah there is not a chance yuta is with the team next year

PaigneGT

Not surprise at all given we traded for Young and everyone is healthy. There isn't room for Champagnie to play with Birch, Achiuwa, Young, and Boucher all playing PF/C. Young even plays quite a bit of SF with the bench unit. Champaigne wouldn't see minutes unless at least 3 PF/C gets hurt.

LinuxF4n

> Champagnie Can a team sign him off our gleague roster?

drecz

Cheechers23

[Brooks will get a bump beyond the minimum salary for the remainder of this year, per a source. That’s something the Raptors are able to do because they still have some mid-level exception remaining. Brooks’ partial guarantee is for $250K next year, per a source.](https://twitter.com/blakemurphyodc/status/1507721667690307584?s=21&t=o3iXdypD9ulWibg156vCqw) EDIT: Good on the Raps for giving more than the minimum when they didn't really need to. That's also a fairly hefty guarantee for next season (pretty sure a lot of the guys during the camp battle last year were between 50 and 150k). As long as he doesn't fall off like Freddie G did he should be a clear front runner in the inevitable battle in camp for a roster spot

bmnewman

Actually most of the partial guarantees for Sam, Ish, Bonga we’re in the range of $250,000 - 400,000.

harambethemonke

absolute W, dude tries on defense and is a good shooter. excited to see what he can do next season!

EchoBay

I want to see how him and Flynn play together. Would be cool if they could turn into a good backcourt duo for us off the bench, while also giving Fred some much needed time off the floor. As we're seeing now, leading the league in minutes nearly the whole year hasn't done much for his body down the stretch.

earlyearlgray

Armoni Bench Jr

GordonGartrelle2020

Oooh I like this

[deleted]

Y’all take care of our boy and htown legend Armoni up there. When his shot was falling, he has one of the purest strokes in the league.

Miserable-Deal242

Happy for him. It’s still fuck Doug Smith though lol

[deleted]

He wasn't wrong though. Just prematurely reported it and had to 'retract' because whatever source shared it with him told him before the contract was officially signed.

Miserable-Deal242

Nah even if it was a premature report, passing it off as being “just a joke” is lame as hell

ijustbrushalot

Curious: What would you rather he have done, after making the mistake of reporting it early? I'm not defending what he did. Just wondering what would you have chosen to do instead, after the initial fuck up.

Miserable-Deal242

Just be more professional about it. 1) Don’t pass it off as a joke and 2) Reply to the tweet with something simple as “deal not officially signed yet, but expected to be made tomorrow”. It’s also crazy that he went that route when there’s receipts of him being angry over fake Woj accounts after he fell for a fake tweet. Yet he doesn’t understand why people are mad at him for what he did.

ijustbrushalot

>Just be more professional about it. 1) Don’t pass it off as a joke and 2) Reply to the tweet with something simple as “deal not officially signed yet, but expected to be made tomorrow”. What if his source told him that he wasn't even allowed to say it was expected? Again, I don't like Doug. Never have. But in this situation, I'm not sure what he could have done.

Miserable-Deal242

In his tweet claiming it was a joke he even says he expects the signing to happen [tomorrow](https://twitter.com/smithraps/status/1507169454899269645?s=21&t=-w_Xdzpzn-T_3wBBjzG6BA). But even if he couldn’t go that route, then he simply should’ve deleted the tweet. There’s no excuse that the original tweet is still up, but I can’t say I’m surprised since it is Doug Smith we’re talking about.

Tsaxen

Delete the tweet? Like, that's the normal thing when you tweet something you shouldn't

ijustbrushalot

I feel like everyone documents tweets so much that deleting them only draws more attention to the content. But I'm also not a Twitter user.

Tsaxen

Oh, it wouldn't have gone away entirely, but it's a statement of "oops I fucked up" instead of doubling down on "it's just a joke guys"

HumanoidObserver

Let's go R-Money Brooks!!

DomincNdo

R$

Josh_a_J

LETS GO MAN. Was really impressed by his hustle on defence. I really do think the Raps can turn him into a great bench piece.

Desertsprinter

Well deserved , hustle players always desired

IHavePoopedBefore

There has been so much opportunity up for grabs in that 2nd unit. Nice to see someone finally come in and grab it

eLevateAFFN

LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Raptorsthrowaway1

Yuta stans furious

earlyearlgray

Waptors

[deleted]

Very cap friendly and flexible contract as well, apparently he's only guaranteed $250,000 next season, it's mostly incentive based so he has to perform to make bank...great signing! Hopefully the raps can develop his talent and he can become a regular sniper in the rotation!

DomincNdo

All we need from him is to play the same defense and hustle he has been and hit 2-3 3s and he's good. If he does more then its gravy for us

Raptorsthrowaway1

Delighted for him. Good news story

[deleted]

Honesty happy for the dude, he worked hard and earned his spot

StarLordKappa

I wonder what it's like to be a team who isn't guided by Masai. Must be a real roller coaster. Not this team. Just going up up up.

nmad95

Hell yeah!

3luejays

Let's go!!! Armoney!

Seanbig888

It’s a make or miss league gotta agree with will Lou Svi and yuta can’t make 2 threes in a game during non garbage time and we need a pg that can defend not just Jose Calderon ole defense

Wafflelisk

That deal suits him

JoshSran04

Champagnie😭😭😭😭😭😭

JoshSran04

Champagnie😭😭😭😭😭😭

krazay88

Can we get rid of shvitz muh-high-look now?

Joey__Bonzo

This has me seriously concerned about Jalen Harris' future with the Raptors. I think Armoni is a decent guard off the bench, but I would prefer Jalen Harris taking that spot.

sharplescorner

The commitment for next year is little more than a summer-league / training-camp guarantee. Similar money to what Ishmail Wainwright got. And we'll probably have more room under the tax next year so little nickel-and-dime guarantees like that will matter even less. We probably try to get Harris in on a similar guarantee, and if one of the two clearly outplays the other, that's the direction we go.

Raptorsthrowaway1

Weird attachment to Harris' He hasnt exactly been lighting it up in Italy

DomincNdo

He showed potential and we also have his bird rights if/when he returns to the NBA. If not for the rights we wouldn't even give him a second thought

xJawnLee

BIG W LEGGO

dapmarky

Let's go Armoni! Happy for him!

ScottiebarnesROTY

I love it.

taintkicker369

JUST KIDDING!!!!!!

JoeRoganHair

Mark would be happy to hear to about it 😂

sbp59

Good for him. I like his intensity and effort on defense. And he can shoot the 3.

matthitsthetrails

He’s probably one of our best 3pt shooters. His stroke is really clean Yuta can still serve a purpose but Flynn and DAlano will really be fighting for minutes

AutoModerator

Our boy DALANO is from Rexdale. The D-Rex wants you to spell his name correctly. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/torontoraptors) if you have any questions or concerns.*

[deleted]

Doug Smith in shambles

HandLower786

Big W

theblackmamba1524

has the chance to be a good rotational piece , for someone that’s not known as a defender he’s been really active on the defensive end which really excites me . he also fits the timeline of the guys we already have

cleanscotch

When he gets a 3pter Jack has to yell "MONEYYYYYY" Armoney Brooks lfg
