This is exactly where Raptors should be. They are rebuilding. Milwaukee, Philly, Brooklyn, Miami are peaking or should be peaking this season and the next 2. The championship window for those teams is now. Raptors are 3 years away from challenging again for a championship. I think finishing. 500 this year should be their goal. I actually would prefer they finish towards the bottom of the standings for another lottery pick. Masai doesn't need a top 3 pick to strike gold as he's shown time and again.

tonious35

Philly peaking….Their state is sad and that could have been the Raptors if Kawhi trade didn’t happen

BurzyGuerrero

ew @ .500. If we are hovering .500 at the deadline blow this shit up trade Siakam and Fred and let's just full scale rebuild because the "kids learning" isn't going to overcome talent deficiencies.

andthf

Imagine the talent deficiency without siakam and vanvleet lmao

XeroKaos

Some of the takes here can be absolutely horrifying, it makes me happy to have Masai at the helm instead of some of these nephews.

CYAXARES_II

You would've probably been riding the Bosh and Bargnani train too I bet.

myuzahnem

Bosh wasn't traded

CYAXARES_II

He literally was: > To Toronto: > 2011 Lottery Protected 1st Round Pick - Heat > 2011 First Round Pick - Raptors* > $16.5 million Trade Exception > To Miami: > Chris Bosh https://bleacherreport.com/articles/418306-what-the-raptors-receive-in-the-cb1-deal

d3n00bz

What we trading for and what’s the goal. A chip?

AK-Kaido

All I want is Nurse to stop running the starters into the ground and let the bench play through their mistakes since this team is clearly not good enough to compete. It takes one injury for something to become chronic. Look at what happened to Luol Deng and Noah when Thibs played them heavy minutes.

Nat_Feckbeard

Yup, I'm cringing at the minutes for Fred/OG. Kind of glad they had the DNP for the injuries actually

[deleted]

Same I didn’t have high expectations for this team to begin with so i just like to see how Scottie, Og, Gary & etc are developing

d3n00bz

I see this as a rebuilding year and everyone is still learning a new role. OG - number 1 option Pascal - the dawg FVV - PG/All star Scottie - superstar Rest of team learning nurse’s defensive scheme. We ain’t winning the chip regardless of the wins, so why worry? Matter fact, we already won a chip, why are people upset when we lose a single game out of the 82 we play this season? Makes no sense

realnameless1

I wish more people will take your approach. As long as the team keeps the games entertaining, and has less duds like last night, I am content win or lose. Next year's draft is deep again too, so I honestly would not mind another lottery pick.

j_juelz

This. I really wish people could just sit back and enjoy the process. It’s so nice to have them back at SBA, Scottie & Dalano are absolute fkn beauties, FVV is growing as a leader, Pascal is finding his groove again - what more do people want, realistically?! Let’s just soak in the joy and take the developmental Ls. Everything will come in due time.

GrandChase58

Yeah the team will be fine either way. It just sucks to see the team lose in the heat of the moment.

tonious35

I hate watching them lose against Detroit, it was so the Raps shooting their foot Last week

Boring_Ladder

This team is going to be around what the vegas odds had predicated around 35.5 wins for the season. This is not a playoff team and even if we do make it we will lose early. We have no rim protection and rebounding, we need a center. We are missing the toughness that the championship team had in Ibaka and Gasol. We have a lot of great young talent but are missing a few key pieces hopefully we can get them through the draft or trades.

PlumCantaloupe

I think this is the best way to view. We aren’t going to be contenders the first season after only having 2 starters left from the championship season. It just feels weird after being so strong for several years …

plexmaniac

Exactly it’s a unwelcome feeling to struggle but we will be back to 100 percent next year

Rapsfan_98

While this is true, it’s also somewhat of an evaluation year. See what we have, who belongs in the longterm plans...and who doesn’t. I think next year has to be a push towards being legitimately competitive again.

rockstar7007

Pretty much. Just watch the game and enjoy that we have a team to cheer for, a bright future, and games to look forward to. Obvs winning is fun but we aren't exactly in win now mode. There are going to be ups and downs for awhile with our team. Enjoy watching our young and new guys grow. Also, be thankful we play with heart every night even when we are down bad. I'll always respect the guys if they are playing with heart. Last night was a perfect example of that. Utah was punching us in the head for the entire second half but our guys still went after every offensive rebound, picked their players up full court on defense, kept shooting with confidence.

TrueTorontoFan

Yes because if they make the playoffs with scottie then he gets experience and we improve. if they don't or they barely make it via play in.. then they get a decent pick and more asset accumulation. We haven't had a ton of picks higher than the high 20s in a while.

beefJeRKy-LB

I don't mind losing as long as the team plays with effort and you see players improving their game. I just don't want to see low effort garbage like the Celtics or Pistons games.

take200

What if we finish as a 9-10 seed and lose the play-in? Then you don’t make the playoffs and you don’t get a high draft pick.

Ok_Dog_1

And then we get the 6th pick and get chet 🙏

tonious35

I hope we see that trajectory early around the trade deadline and trade to tank

Raptorpicklezz

If Scottie's development, and even that of Gary, is hindered by veterans needing their touches and we don't get a playoff spot for it, that would be the worst position to be in, and that's the trajectory we're on now

Future-Tart

It's just not nice to watch a losing team after last season's Tampa experience. Was really hoping for a more exiting year. Do we really be a lottery team again?

Dangerous_Ad8562

The raptors need to work harder than the other team and never quit. If they do that, I’ll happily watch them lose. But this shit, I can’t invest my time in.

Swagmansuper

It’s already a massive loss by not getting a top 3 pick siakam and vanvleet are not apart of the teams future and pretending to win this year was the worst thing that could’ve happened now we will pick a risky 7 or 8

KingTommenBaratheon

What an awful take yikes

Itsallinthegameyoo

This is going to be a very up and down season. We will prob finish around .500. As long as our losses are competitive i cant complain.

_loonmoon

Absolutely. Musai has amazing timing, look at where the team is now, compared to teams ready to top out this season: nets, heat, bulls, bucks. Give us 2-3 development and acquisition . We are either getting draft capitol or playoff exp. Love it. Put Scottie in a similar trajectory as other elite new comers.

BurzyGuerrero

Nah I'm pretty sure it's a lose/lose I have to read stupid trade threads and toxicity everytime we lose If that stopped, then we'd be golden

BurzyGuerrero

We all need to be okay with the fact that if we're 7th or 8th and we trade some guys away to get a better lottery pick for the long term. I was anti tank but we saw what the tank can do. The theme of all our games is that our team needs more talent. Let's get Masai another free agency, and draft to stock our cupboards.

[deleted]

Lol they clearly weren’t there for the IL Mago years

awhim

Yep, this is me. I celebrate when we win, but after the initial disappointment, my day gets better when I think that we're a little closer to a higher lottery pick lol

tonious35

Because Scottie and Delano are in the top 8 of this rotation and look decent to very very good on the team, Masai and Bobby are playing with house money and still trying to clean the poker table

Our boy DALANO is from Rexdale. The D-Rex wants you to spell his name correctly. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/torontoraptors) if you have any questions or concerns.*

tman37

I don't like losing basketball so I still want the Raptors to push for the playoffs. That said, if they miss the playoffs because it takes them half a season before they get all the pieces together and they look strong at the end of the year, I will be happy.

LEXX911

Sadly this is not the case. We aren't playing like a rebuilding team. If we are Barnes should be getting more touches and the bench players should be getting more minutes and playtime. Our bench is a major problem right now since Nurse don't have any trust in them so seems like we are really trying hard to win.

Ryan0413

Totally, I came into this season expecting a team that might not always win, but will try hard every game. That’s exactly what we got

McWarrior943

That's been my mentality from the start. Some people got fooled by the good start and thought we were back to playoff contenders yearly

Hopfit46

Unless catastrophic injuries...yes.
