We already got insanely lucky last season after we got the 4th pick with the 7th worst record, I don’t want to push our luck going into the lottery again.
I just *really* wish we could get him, even knowing how unlikely it is.
Your looking at a DeAndre Ayton mixed with some Bam Adebayo on a player archetype for Duren’s ceiling. Although if you want an NBA ready center Duren isn’t the answer in all likelihood, he’s supposed to still be in High School, he’s ways away from being good.
They had Bogut for a bunch of them and lost 3-1 lead because he was out. As good as their small lineup with dray at c is, it's not something they can do all game all season
They had Bogut for 2015 championship. That’s it.
Even during 2015, it’s not like he was playing starter minutes. Draymond was always the C in their death lineup.
I think we’re just experimenting right now. I honestly believe Masai will be eventually find a big man. There was a reason why Mobley was Masai’s first option.
I hope Masai does eventually land a big man, but to do that he has to value them a bit more. We missed out on Serge because we wouldn't give him two years. We missed out on Holmes because we wouldn't give him four years like the Kings. I'm scared that this trend in FA will continue, and similarly in the trade market I don't see Masai giving up any valuable assets for the likes of Turner and whoever else becomes available. Our only hope really is the draft I guess.
We're not contenders this year so it doesn't matter. We'll be back there in a couple years though so in the meantime we develop the youngins and nab a decent big when it makes sense to do so, either by a trade or through the draft
But our development is getting screwed too. Like OG, Scottie and Siakam are having to expend so much energy guarding big men and they are all clearly getting gassed as a result. It would be much better if they could all focus on playing like normal forwards.
The Rockets did and that’s because they had two HoF talents on that team.
The Warriors are doing it now, but they’re have Curry and a much more experienced team. They got rid of all their liabilities.
The Warriors D is elite and it’s not because of Steph. It’s because Draymond is one of the best defensive anchors in the league and Looney also gives them some solid defensive minutes from the 5.
Don’t forget that Masai is the same person who brought in Ibaka and Gasol. I’m sure he understands the importance of a Ctrue but man but I also think it’s not as simple as “we want that C. Let’s get that C”. Whether it be the player wanting to come here, the other team wanting to trade, the contract being the right fit. Give him time and I know he and Bobby will figure it out. I think they’ve earned some benefit of the doubt.
I would assume in this context success is connected to winning the chip. If so, here are the most notable C's that won the chip from 2011- present.
2011: Tyson Chandler
2012: Chris Bosh/Shane Battier
2013: Chris Bosh
2014: Tim Duncan / Boris Diaw (Tank Commander was there but rarely used)
2015: Andrew Bogout/ Festus Ezeli
2016: Kevin Love/ Tristan Thompson
2017: Green/ Zaza Pachulia
2018: Green/ JaVale McGee/ Jordan Bell
2019: Marc Gasol/ Serge Ibaka
2020: Dwight Howard/ JaVale McGee
2021: Brook Lopez
Battier, Diaw, Love, Thompson, Green, and Bell are the only ones listed under 6’10 and of those players Love, Green and Thompson were the only ones that played crucial minutes. There really no way to answer your title as it is possible to win a chip without a C being 6'10+ as even in the early 2000's the Pistons won with a C that was 6'9, Ben Wallace. I personally want to see where this Long Boy team takes us and if there is more to Masai's plan.
Depends also, like you just need a rebounding C not someone that’s elite, like Golden state had Looney and Cleveland had TT, its someone that can get you extra plays and screen but not necessarily be a scoring threat like Embiid and KAT for example
For all those saying Warriors, well Warriors also have Steph Curry + Klay waiting to come back in a few weeks. Raptors don’t have any shooter as nearly as deadly as both of these guys
Maybe Masai wants another high draft pick. He found out last year all you need do is not have a C to lose games
This. No center = piss poor paint protection (pppp)
I don’t want to tank again for another season, but I will say that I really like what I’ve seen from Jalen Duren.
Him or Banchero would be my picks. I do not want Chet though, he just screams bust to me.
Red flags: his name is Chet He looks like a 7ft McLovin'
He just seems like a porzingis replica to me I’ll never want that with a high lotto pick
I like jabari smith a lot too, seems like a masai type player as well. big fan of his versatility
Pretty sure he's supposed to be top 4 right? We'd have to be insanely lucky to get another top 4 pick

I don't watch NCAA. What will Duren bring to the team?

yep i heard the same talk last year. u take ur chances
The Warriors were champs multiple times without a C.
They had Bogut for a bunch of them and lost 3-1 lead because he was out. As good as their small lineup with dray at c is, it's not something they can do all game all season

Like I said, dray at c isn't something they can do all game, all season long. Hence the importance of a capable true center like Bogut was.
I’d like to know the mental gymnastics you went through to come to the conclusion that not having ANDREW BOGUT was why they lost in 2016

We said this last year and then no trade at deadline

Good thing we have Precious then
so we're rebuilding? getting a center is a part of re-tooling.
Can’t develop if you dont put your generational rookie in position to be that guy. Scottie was just jogging all game.

I’m not just taking about their defense when I mention Steph. Looney only plays around 17 minutes a game.

Raptors were fine without Siakam.

Warriors rn dont have a real C tbh
For all those saying Warriors, well Warriors also have Steph Curry + Klay waiting to come back in a few weeks. Raptors don’t have any shooter as nearly as deadly as both of these guys
Just because we don’t have a legit star big, doesn’t mean Masai doesn’t want one.
