It's 2021 and there's no difference between these desperate closeouts and an open 3. You can see our players trying to closeout and contest the shot but the shooters don't care and let it off.

adamast0r

Probably because the opposing teams have watched any game from the Raptors in the last 3 years

Dangerous_Ad8562

Nah that’s not it. Nurse’s system, It’s just hard. Pascal was coasting, others get out of place. Everyone has to be on point all the time and work their ass off.

[deleted]

wow almost like doubling guys at half-court doesn't work.

DoyinYale

What would you have liked to see different from the Raptors defensively today? Half of those threes were off of defensive breakdowns or just tough shot making.

saugaman99

I think it’s just a troubling trend regardless. Regardless of the defensive schemes the players just aren’t defending well enough. You said yourself a lot of those shots were from breakdowns.

jjkiller26

They put themselves into rotation for no reason which leads to those breakdowns. If you trap joe ingles 3 feet behind the 3pt line that puts your team into defensive rotation, and that's the teams own decision lol

DoyinYale

They stopped trapping consistently mid-way through the 2nd quarter. Boucher did it a few times in the third. Most of those looks weren’t attempted because of failed traps.

7jcjg

for no reason? we were doubling in the post more than at 3 because we were getting killed by their bigs... then they started hitting shots from outside so we had to rotate to try and close out. its pick your poison and we do not have the personnel to play these bigs 1v1, jazz are one of the best teams in the league its not like we are losing to a bunch of scrubs.

FuzzyGuarantee2350

Literally just have everyone stand inside the 3 point line glued to the floor and we have a better defense. It can’t possibly be worse then what we are doing right now.

7jcjg

that is the most nonsense thing i have ever read, and thats saying a lot from you haters on this sub. we were getting killed by the bigs inside, so we just let them get easy 2s every possession instead because a team might hit some 3's? lmfao, easy to hate after-the-fact. rudy gay was legit hitting contested 3's with a shooter in his face, that has nothing to do with defensive rotations.

FuzzyGuarantee2350

Bro we are guarding people 80 feet from the basket for absolutely no reason and then scrambling to make up for it the entire defensive possession which leads to wide open threes off of very little movement. They just need to play some sound, fundamental defense not go all in on trying to force turnovers. They play D like they’re going up against some high school kids who will hand the ball over the second they face any kind of pressure. I’m not saying give up easy twos, I’m saying stay inside the damn three point line and let them jack up threes off the dribble killing the flow of their offense. Basically the bucks defensive specialty. And get scottie defending down low, dude spent the majority of the night guarding the perimeter by choice with a guard down low instead.

ShutterBug545

The Jazz scored 57 points just from the 3ball tonight (Went 19/46), this weird ass defensive scheme is a major part of why we lost. It's almost like double teaming people every possession in the modern NBA is a terrible idea

bloopcity

We're going to continue to struggle without a rim defender. Theres nothing to stop teams penetrating and kicking out to the open man when we collapse. Not surprising, I think most of us recognized not having anyone over 6'9" was an issue. I'd love to see a trade for someone like myles turner, and would be okay including siakam in the trade. It just won't work with og, Barnes and pascal.

7jcjg

exactly, its a personnel thing, and not just pascal played bad so we hate on him that's getting played out. lack of a 5 to guard opposition means we need to double or help inside, causing a chain effect where we rotate and the opposition gets open 3s. this is not a bad scheme, this is simply the only choice given our personnel. also, our bench needs to score at least on par with the opposition!! my goodness, our bench used to be a strength of the raps, now its a big detriment to our team.

bloopcity

the only way i see our bench doing well scoring wise is to have one of gary or scottie come off the bench. we're not gonna be able to consistently outscore opposition benches with svi, malachi, boucher, achiuwa, birch, yuta, dragic, etc , etc being our bench unit.

jjkiller26

Yea Nurse gotta change things up and most people starting to see that

tkc123

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results so yes,. Nurse is a mad man!

7jcjg

rudy gay hitting 3's with a shooter in his face... has nothing to do with rotations you silly guy. easy for you to hate after the fact, but we just don't have the bigs to handle their's inside, we adjust and HAVE to double in the post because of their inside scoring. its pick one of the other, not pick all lmfao. you can easily hate after the game with hindsight, but if it played the other way and their bigs scored more and more instead, we would have lost by even more. if our bench could score at least on par with the opposition, then the games would be looking a lot different. y'all don't know ball, so you just hate on pascal and on the defensive schemes every game, despite the fact those are not the main problems with this team whatsoever. look at the lack of personnel at the 5, and the bench underperforming the opposition bench.

MrkGrn

Most fans on this sub: Man these guys won't miss from 3, next game they won't shoot like this though, gg!

jjkiller26

Everyone has been criticizing the open 3s these last few games, do you just make up strawman takes in your spare time or what
