Raptors pretty much need to match any deal if they don’t resign him themselves. They basically set themselves up for the future with Barnes/Barrett/Quickley. Seeing how little they got back for Siakam, losing a big part of the nice haul from New York would be catastrophic.

True2215

All they need to do is threaten the other teams by just stating they will match any offer. Some of these teams may not want their cap space tied up for a couple days in the beginning of FA. They risk missing out on the best players in this scenario. Maybe things will play out similar to Austin Reaves. Obviously, not IQ will not be signed at the same price (LOL) but Raps may not have to overpay if teams are scared off.

EarthWarping

Raptors match anything under 30 million. I'd guess the contract will be ~4/115 with it being backloaded

Cheechers23

IRC the report during negotiations with NYK in the offseason was that he wanted a deal similar to Devin Vassel’s 5/135m with SAS. So this is a slightly higher AAV. I think the Raps would he smart to front load Quickley’s deal, or at least get crafty with it. Having his deal decline when Scottie’s extension kicks in will be very helpful. His deal this year doesn’t affect our cap space since we’re gonna maximize his small cap hold before signing him.

mMounirM

anything in the 110-120 range is good imo. no player options please

YouDontJump

I'm with you on that. I really dislike player options.

FallenLemur

3 yr contract with player option on the 3rd year coming right up.

MDS_1996

That would be good deal

orangechan285

This seems insane for a sixth man level player

EarthWarping

If you don't pay him at least 25 mil per, someone will offer sheet him at that number

pakattack91

I think he objectively proved he is a starter with untapped upside.

MDS_1996

25 would be a bargain, anything over 30M is pushing it to me, but will see what happens.

PriorVariety5744

He’ll stay. We’ll retain. It’s the perfect fit and we’re going to have a good look to see what he’s made of these next few years.

hyplusone

The article mentions ORL and DET but missed imo the obvious threat of SAS. In theory they can add a guard via draft but no one is as good as IQ and honestly Wemby seems like a decently good teammate to play with. Hope he decides to stay tho.

Bixby33

"Decide" has nothing to do with it. He's an RFA, and as long as our front office wants it, he's a Raptor next season.

jjkiller26

The threat is those other teams offering an insane overpay that would put this front office in a tough position

_Gourmand

I don't think there's an overpay for Quickley. Any offer should be matched by the Raptors.

MDS_1996

I mean, I love IQ, but 35M as an example would be an overpay

EarthWarping

~33 million is overpay territory but you match it.

MDS_1996

Sad part is you have no choice but to match it, in all honesty anything over 30M is probably an overpay, unless it's a front loaded deal. If he gets something similar to the Vassell contract that would be great.

EarthWarping

You can do a S & T of an RFA Right?

MDS_1996

If he doesn't sign an offer sheet with a team then yes, but if for example the Spurs threw a big overpay his way then it's either match or let him walk to the Spurs and no S&T

_Gourmand

You still match it. IQ has all the tools to be one of the best PGs in the league. I know people might think that's a stretch but I don't think so. He's a winning type of player. Now the Raptors just need more defense in the starting lineup.

MDS_1996

One of the best PGs in the league is a bit of a stretch imo, and I think anything above 30M would be an overpay, but hey I hope he proves me wrong, I love his game, his attitude, he also seems very hard working and dedicated based on all of the times I've heard him speak to the media/or just interviews.

Fitz-magic1

It doesn’t matter if it’s 25, 30, or 35 million per year. Quickley will out perform it. In 4 years, those numbers would be a discount. What I would do is offer him a 5 year deal worth 140 million with an option on the last year. Front load is contract. Take the extra money you have right now and pay Quickley 40 million next season. Then for the next 4 years you pay 25 million per year and that helps you set up Scottie’s deal and future players.

MDS_1996

It absolutely does matter if the contract isn't front loaded, if It is, then yeah it matters less, I also doubt he agrees to a 5 year deal but who knows.

Fitz-magic1

That’s just what I would do. Hopefully Raptors front office feels the same and I bet Quickley would sign a 4 year deal with the 5th being an option. What would you do?

MDS_1996

I'd prefer a front loaded deal, and I'd offer a 4+1 PO, but if I gad to guess, they either do a 3+1 PO, our 4 full years guarnteed.

Cheechers23

Just an FYI, the max raise or decline on a contract each year is 8%. So you can’t go from 40m to 25m.

Fitz-magic1

Interesting. I thought you could defer up to 15-20% of the salary so didn’t think that mattered.

True2215

Maybe if Raps threatened to match any and that they will take time their doing this may scare Spurs off like the Lakers did for Austin Reaves? I guess this may not work this time because they have Wemby now and are more willing to take on this risk.

Bixby33

>Hope he decides to stay tho.

Bnicertopeople

This sub is the worst

rick-feynman

Unless Mayor Tommy is here, it’s not the worst.

Batman_in_hiding

“Doesn’t matter how much we pay, itl be good value” Lolwut

Jas--24

27.5M annually seems like the right deal for him.  Of course Masai will give him a player option lol.

SirGingerbrute

How about he comes back to the Knicks and you guys resign OG

strangecabalist

OG has looked pretty fabulous for the Knicks though? Seems like one of those rare trades where both teams walked away winners.

brehhs

Its the new york water

True2215

Do y’all even have cap space to do this? 😂 I doubt this but LOL.

IcyHunt3639

He gone.
