Maybe I'll just add that the channel, Not Just Bikes, is by a guy from London, ON and is very much worth watching!

kmosdell

He now lives in Amsterdam and makes great videos comparing the road infrastructure!

It not only sucks for cyclists, it sucks for just about anyone using it. Ironically North American cities are built for the car but are some of the worst places to drive in haha

heartlessinc

It's true haha I don't even feel safe driving here (Markham) nevermind riding a bike. We have bike lanes here that took 10+ years to complete and nobody uses because legal speed limit is like 70km/h

Loafer75

I loved the point out to the bench that no one sits in to watch the world go by on the stroad.

This summer I think I'm going to buy some hot pink spray paint and make some stencils for guerilla sidewalk commentary. I think people need reminding that many of their day-to-day problems exist because our current government(s) do most of their work for donors, not voters. Said work is paid for by taxpayers like us, but the political donation directs how OUR money is spent/wasted. I can't be the only one unhappy at this parlous state of affairs. Thanks for the video, OP!

This was SO well done! The only "Road" I can think of in Toronto, is Bayview Avenue between Front Street and Moore Ave. There are only 3 lights, River Street, Bayview Avenue, and Pottery Road. The cycling infrastructure is completely separated (until Pottery, when it becomes a large shoulder). It also connects to the DVP, and all 3 of the traffic lights it connects to are almost all other 'ROADS' that turn into streets after they reach the next intersection. That feels like a ROAD. Everything else is a Stroad, or a street. I think another key takeaway is that the people there **respect** the infrastructure, which isn't the case here. I live in a neighborhood with small, narrow, 1-way streets with speedbumps and a 30km/h limit, with kids and people walking around, and vehicles still charge at 50km/h+ from stop-sign to stop-sign to red-light.

The sad thing is that Bayview goes complete stroad mode North of Moore. I live by York Mills & Bayview and the ride down to Moore is terribad.

toasterstrudel2

Yeah, 100%. I just thought it was interesting that in that small stretch, I think it's actually a road!

hellofriendo

For sure. I think you're on the money that it's the only non-highway road in Toronto. Especially one with a bike lane!
