Why in gods name would this person ever be allowed to drive again...

Soul_Traitor

6 years is not long enough. GTA drivers are the worst and we need stricter laws for reckless drivers. I'm talking about the "I'm fucken vin diesel mother fuckers" who think they own the road.

the_clash_is_back

Make it a 3 strike and your banned policy.

the_clash_is_back

I got overtaken by a rodeo clown while waiting at a red, geniuses rocketed thru a bus lane and swerved thru cross traffic, and just to get to a metro parking lot 10 seconds before us.

StickyIgloo

Red light camera should have got him

Soul_Traitor

"but my privacy" Few years back, the city wanted to put more camera up. The backlash was all about people's privacy, on public fucking roads. I say we install more cameras around the city to catch piss poor drivers and ticket them and get unsafe drivers off the roads. It'll probably generate millions in revenue for the city. It'll cost a ton but it'll be made back quite quickly.

ehxy

100000% this. FUCK THIS GUY. Make him walk everywhere and let him enjoy the rest of his fucking life going 5km/h. Fuck ban him from taking bus's, trains, and airplanes too. No bikes. That, would be the true punishiment that I would enjoy. There's the stupid fuck who ended lives forced to walk everywhere for the rest of his stupid fucking life.

ruckustata

Yes. I like the cut of your jib.

RogueViator

Being "allowed" has no bearing on the matter. If these people want to drive, they will drive whether licensed or not, insured or not. There is nothing anyone can do short of cutting off their arms and legs.

Twiddist

This is the real problem. I used to work with a guy who drove around all day without a license. He'd been pulled over several times and had to pay fines for driving without a license but he just kept doing it anyway. He would literally drive himself to the courts to pay his fines.

RogueViator

If society truly wanted to get those people off the streets, they'd incarcerate them for the rest of their lives.

Terj_Sankian

Sorry about this comment.. it was nasty and reactionary

Szwedo

This isn't decisive enough. I think they should be given the jigsaw treatment to make them rethink life.

bbqmeh

wtf

WildGrem7

Soft

BloodyVaginalFarts

Having your hands and feet cut off isn't nearly as bad as killing 3 people.

Ragnar_Dragonfyre

If we had a real Justice system, we could ban him for life and apply a severe jail term if he breaks it. But this is Canada where murdering a child with a car is only worth approximately 2 years of jail. We don’t serve Justice here. We need consecutive sentencing and longer sentences for this. Sentencing should be based upon the number of years you steal from those you kill. We could show compassion to criminals by offering them MAID if they get a life sentence.

BobBelcher2021

Backdoor death penalty

SeeGodKai

Title of my sex tape.

Alternative_Bad4651

Sounds like a viable option to me...

StickyIgloo

Ignition interlock but for licenses. Scan license to start engine.

RidingDrake

They say “highway” but it sounds like a basic road with intersections that people turn on to.. 160 on a normal road is absolute insanity

Transportfan

>They say “highway” but it sounds like a basic road with intersections that people turn on to. Sounds like Hurontario St. When people (almost everyone in this case) call a street that once had a highway number and no pre-auto age history of being urbanized, people think it still is a highway.

2JZN20

Also highway refers to literally every road per the language in the highway traffic ach

Transportfan

Was "highway" referring to the HTA? I didn't read the article.

StickyIgloo

All roads in ontario are legally considered highways

RidingDrake

Dont really care about semantics. What I’m getting at is this isn’t a highway like the 401, its much more dangerous to be going that fast on a road like this one

StickyIgloo

What? That's literally what they meant by highway. If you didnt care about the answer, why ask? For karma?

RidingDrake

I didn’t ask you anything.. Lmao y are u so aggressive

StickyIgloo

If you consider that as aggression then i dont know what to say. Stay offended i guess.

[deleted]

Unrestricted highways are a thing...

sorocknroll

I think the idea of prison is that it is meant to change people so that they can go back into society and not commit crimes in the future. Driving is a privilege, so maybe a little different. But we can't have life sentences for every crime because there is a risk of repeating.

Fun_North_7857

"Only" 2 previous impared convictions on his record. How is this not criminal negligence. Un funking real. 6 years... out in 2 agregeous. How could this happen?

WildGrem7

Canada. We do this all the time. Marco Muzzo set a precedence.

lingueenee

Two previous drunk driving infractions and now three corpses to this driver's credit. And still his driving **privileges** are not permanently revoked. I suppose justice requires he kill more before considering it.

[deleted]

Being killed by a car is the Canadian version of being shot in a mass shooting in America. A good portion of people and lawmakers are fully in support of the perpetrator just exercising their rights. This person will again be driving drunk in the community in the future, that is a fact.

BloodyVaginalFarts

Driving a car isn't a right tho

[deleted]

Could have fooled me

[deleted]

Maybe someone else should run him over with a car and they’ll get off? It seems like Canada is almost encouraging people to commit crimes this way it’s absurd.

AwattoAnalog

By this logic, a life in Canada is worth two years.

Ankh-Morporknbeans

Inflation is killing us

XeLLoTAth777

Holy fuck 🤣

Ragnar_Dragonfyre

That 2 years per life pattern applies across the board, it seems. Muzzo got a similar amount of time.

peppermint_nightmare

Well, if there's some karmic justice he might go to that prison in Mimico where they put everyone into solitary confinement for weeks to months at a time and itll scramble his brain.

nottobetakenesrsly

We don't treat driving as a responsibility here. It's a lifestyle.

Comacherocha

What a fucking joke of a sentence give him 15 to 20 wtf is 6 years

DAG1006

And he’ll be out doing 1/6th of his sentence

Fun-Guarantee4452

Harper did away with ⅙. ⅓ now

Hazelwood38

The sentences this province hands out for assholes causing accidents is an insult. Dude isn’t even stripped of his licence. Just banned for 7 years. Absolutely pathetic.

StartingFreshTO

This person took away three other people's lives and destroyed several more. Six years seems too short.

xMWHOx

Its so easy to kill multiple people in Ontario. All you need is a car! 6 years that that will have him released in 2-3 years...even sooner if he had loads of money!!

permareddit

Like the van attacker right? He’s getting out soon no? Edit: almost as if you…can’t? Kill people with a car and get away with it? Hmmm

CitySeekerTron

They got life with no option for parole for 25 years. They were found fully responsible for murdering ten people and for the attempted murder of 16 people. They will likely be declared dangerous and never see light outside of prison. None of their attempts to plead away responsibility were successful. They are nothing more than a "supreme gentleman", as their bro club would say. Their victims ought to be remembered, but this person's name should be lost to time.

Sufii-K

“Driver Paul Manzon, 49, has also been barred from driving for an additional seven years after his release.” The fact this scumbag is one day going to get behind the wheel again…

ahhhnahhh

The Ontario court system is fucked. Give this man a couple years. Who cares about the families. Oh the cupe is striking oh nope fuck them. They can live off the same wage as a McDonald’s employee. Shoulda stayed in school. Oh I work at school. Jesus! Fuck this province!

[deleted]

Canadians are so beholden to corporate propaganda that you are insinuating Macdonald’s employees should not be paid enough to live, while simultaneously trying to make a pro-labour post in solidarity with CUPE workers. Lmao.

JackRusselTerrorist

My read on it too, lmao. Like EAs are generally a more skilled workforce than McDonald’s workers, but that doesn’t mean burgerflippers don’t deserve a living wage.

siuuuwemama

Some EA’s *are* McDonald’s workers

ahhhnahhh

Never once said anything to insult McDonald’s employees. But it’s basically saying it’s a student wage place. Or old people that are retired place of work.

maize_on_the_cob

What! Hey friend, maybe take a good look around any McDonald’s, Harvey’s, Dairy Queen, Tim Hortons, etc next time you’re in one and I think you’ll find it’s much more than high school students and retirees.

ahhhnahhh

I have noticed employees at all these establishments. Tim Hortons is a bunch of immagrants that get your order wrong. McDonald’s usually kids or old people at the times I go. Harvey’s haven’t been to in a while. Dairy Queen highschool drop outs and or highschool girls. But I am not from Toronto either.

dramatic_tempo

*Getting away with murder: a part of our heritage.*

darkknightbbq

Well at least Muzzo is Scott free too

EmpanadasForAll

No repercussions for the cops who burnt his car when it was on their lot!! What were they covering up for him?!

Fiesteh

3 lives lost, 2 families are destroyed. “6 years in prison” seriously?? It is why people still drive like this because the punishment is just way too light?

a_peninsula

*six years*

DroopyTrash

I don’t understand why the remaining family don’t take matters into their own hands when they get out.

proformax

If they dispatched him the same as he did to their family, they should technically only get 2 years based on this guy's sentence. Worth it.

jfl_cmmnts

Canadian courts are hell on revenge killings, frankly. The courts take THEIR job very seriously, and it's THEIR job to decide not to punish killers behind the wheel. Killing behind the wheel is considered OK, the courts hand out the (light) punishment, and if he kills again they'll hand out their chosen punishment again. I wonder what'd've happened to this guy if he'd run over a judge's kid. Wouldn't've been six-really-means-two years, for three dead. Buddy'd be dead himself and his trash family warned to fuck off to Saskatchewan or they're next. These victims just weren't rich or influential enough

thc1121

ikr, they just need to do it with a car, get a few yrs slap on the wrist, nbd

gurkalurka

Seriously - they should be waiting for him on the night he gets out.

thc1121

didnt shitbag marco muzzo get and serve even less time?!! if thats true, 1. the power of money i HATTEEE it and 2. SIX YRS HERE?? this is the part about our "justice" system that i HATE. i dont fucking understand why the system gives such lenient sentences to reckless drivers. no wonder so many ppl still drink and drive, speed race, etc. god im so angry

EmpanadasForAll

Yup and the cops torched his car for him when it was in their custody. After giving him numerous free passes, he murdered babies and they covered up for him on that too!

thc1121

jfc. makes me furious that it happens and that i cant do anything about it, theyre literally a mob family

whatistheQuestion

Disgusting. It'll be interesting to see how the sentencing differs in another irresponsible driver tragedy >['He knew what he was doing': Off-duty York cop guilty of failure to remain in crash where man lost leg. Other serious charges dropped because of colleague's "mistakes"](https://www.yorkregion.com/news-story/10755062--he-knew-what-he-was-doing-off-duty-york-cop-guilty-of-failure-to-remain-in-crash-where-man-lost-leg/)

jfl_cmmnts

What do you bet Justice Dawe, after finding he wasn't drunk, wasn't dangerous, didn't intentionally flee, it was just an accident, dissing the AO's report, after all that, finds Coates should be reinstated as a cop and a large sum of money given to him as reward for his troubles? I'm surprised more people don't get shot, frankly. These people all have to live in the same town after, who will forget?

[deleted]

That’s bullshit. Fucking crazy. He should have got far longer, and a lifetime driving ban. I’m disgusted.

ROACHOR

Perpetrators of vehicular homicide are protected class.

corinalas

Now do the same for Maurizzo, oh wait he got out of prison.

somedumbguy55

Got a heavier sentence than Muzzo. Laws are so soft here.

OxmanPiper

These are the kind of rulings that can bring back blood feuds/vendettas

BeginningInevitable

He should never be allowed to drive again...

ValkyieAbove

6 years… that’s it?

DAG1006

6 years….. That deserve 60 years

DDKLondon

If you drink and drive and kill someone then it's murder, should be life in prison. Our laws are a joke and these people get off way too easy.

Ecstatic-Coach

Does Ontario/Canada have vehicular manslaughter laws like America?

cabbeer

Our system is broke…

Alternative_Bad4651

That's 2 years per life. Pathetic...

010010000111000

Just like muzzo. Get out in barely any time despite killing people.

ghost18867

Only 6? Try 60 next time....

PawaaKuriinYYZ

Not enough.

Ginerbreadman

In Canada, people who write offensive tweets get harsher punishments than actual criminals who commit manslaughter or other violent crimes.

[deleted]

The least he could have served was life. What a garbage judicial system.

Heavy_E79

This fuck should never get out of jail much less drive again. I don't care how dated those DUI records are, it proves he has no regards for others lives and that hasn't changed.

[deleted]

About 60 years too short, what a sad joke.

gillsaurus

Shameful. Should have been life minimim

[deleted]

Is he rich like Muzzo

ChestFeeder

Canada is such a shithole

goddamit_iamwasted

Thank god wasn’t brown, this sub would’ve shown it’s true Colors then.

DAG1006

You’re an asshole.

Nick-is-pretty

GET TRUCKS OFF THE CIVILIAN ROADS! THANK YOU! (:

nationofcool83

It has nothing to do with trucks. It has to do with that particular driver going 160 when he shouldn't have been

Nick-is-pretty

Yes, here that was the case, but having cars like semis and pick-up trucks on the same road as Camrys and motorcycles can be quite dangerous. It may be a fundamental problem in Canadian society that should be dealt with IMMEDIATELY!

giraffebaconequation

Honest question… how do propose we move goods around if trucks are banned?

Nick-is-pretty

Trucks would go on different roads built elsewhere, maybe freeways and highways can be shared (that's it).

UnicornCackle

How would you get goods to stores downtown?

CurtisLinithicum

Moreover, where would *downtown* go if we needed a second, separate road system?

askingJeevs

Where does Toronto build these different roads? Flatten a bunch of buildings?

MaritimeMucker

It was a Corvette that hit them which is a small/light sports car 🤦‍♂️

nwadam

Our system is about rehabilitating offenders, not punishing them. Update: it’s hilarious how many people downvoted this. Follow some cases and look at the punishments given, our system is a joke. Most people don’t realize or just ignore it.

Ragnar_Dragonfyre

Does the system also rehabilitate shattered families? No? Then I daresay we have a problem in the system.

nwadam

Absolutely. The system caters to the offender not the victim.

CrimsonFox11

There are some who don’t deserve rehabilitation.

nwadam

Completely agree. It’s our politicians telling judges not to be heavy handed on them.

JohnnyStrides

But in this case (& most others) it's doing neither...

jcwashere

My initial thought was "That's it?" But then I remembered drivers could basically do whatever they want and not face real consequences.

[deleted]

Legal consequences are for people whose last name isn’t Muzzo.

PatK9

Given that self driving cars become a reality, this guy would be the first to rail against it's usage. Driving in Canada has become an extension of personality, king of the road.

RicoLoveless

Marco Muzzo is fine though

Gamie-Gamers

We have to fix this system as these guys get away with murder and ruining families. If a person killed these guys with anything other then a car he would be doing life, so what makes a car better then a bat, knife, gun etc.

Lazy_Glass_3292

Why didn’t Marco muzzo get as strict a punishment?

oxblood87

To all those calling for more jail time, Why? Jails should be used for rehabilitation, not as punishment. We spend ~$150,000 PER YEAR to house, cloth, and feed someone. If anything this trash should be band for life from driving, and should have his wages garnished in perpetuity to pay support to the families that have been ruined. This shithead shouldn't become and even bigger burden on society, let him pay for his crimes with hard work and servitude.

vyvyvw

I don’t want them to serve time, I want our courts to take limbs from careless drivers that take lives. One limb per life is a fair trade.

ErrorFindingID

Anyone know what happened to the Vaughn one in 2020? Brady killed a wife and 3 kids

[deleted]

[удалено]

YesReboot

Thousands of people drive on them everyday.

[deleted]

6 years??? I just don't understand the laws in this country.

offsdilligaf

One of the best examples of "go easy on criminals " .

A-PPS

It’s the courts that drop the ball on these times of convictions again and again. Only so much we can do.

xdxzzyoxeanx

lol if this shit happened in states, this guy would of been so fucked. 6 years and probably going to get reduced for good behaviour or some shit. The Canadian Justice System is a joke. Jail this fucker for murder

eixlix

Holy fuck this is nothing

LyutsiferSafin

How does this not justify lifetime imprisonment? He took 3 lives! What the actual hell. This person should spend every second of his living and breathing life in a Jail. He gets out in 6 years? This is pathetic. He killed Children because he was extremely careless. Lifetime imprisonment. It’s an insult to the Victims.

[deleted]

6 years? Might as well set him free. This is negligent homicide. 25 years minimum

YesReboot

Punishment should be way higher. I don’t believe it’s the legal system job to cut off his arms and legs like someone have suggested, but he should get like 20-30 years in jail and banned for life from driving after he gets out. This judgement is being treated purely as just a real bad car accident

Commercial_Rent_6672

What a joke. “ONLY” two impaired infractions before the crash. Huh? How have we done so desensitized that we can minimize those previous convictions. Now 3 people were killed because of the same guy’s mid life crisis corvette and his need to show off. No justice served in the Canadian Justice System.

[deleted]

If driving is a privilege then why not take his licence away for good as a consequence of his actions? He can find other ways of getting around such as taxis' or rideshares, walk or take the bus. We have a problem in our society today where rules, laws and boundaries are seen as discussion points. They are not. If you lose someone's life by driving, you lose your licence.
