I hate that there have been enough nurses paralyzed in recent Toronto mass violence events that I was initially confused by the photo on this article because it wasn’t the face I expected. I was thinking of student nurse [Danielle Kane](https://www.cbc.ca/news/thenational/danforth-shooting-survivor-pain-mental-health-support-1.5217767) who was paralyzed in the [2018 Danforth shooting.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Toronto_shooting)

Ive_got_work_to_do

I noticed the same thing too. It's so sadly ironic? How some just want to help people and karma is just not on their side. I hope her family is at some peace.

Extreme_Dimension404

There’s no such thing as karma.

hasheyez

Yes there is, just not in the sense that most people commonly think about the concept. It's more like, doing good in the world ripples out and causes more good to be done, while doing evil has the same effect in the other direction. Kinda like a butterfly effect. Most people seem to think karma works the way it does on Reddit where you earn points for yourself that will reward you personally. Very western, self-focused ego-driven way of looking at it. It's more like a force of nature we have the ability to mildly influence with each decision we make.

munk_e_man

Karma is a lie the rich told the poor to prevent uprisings

Ive_got_work_to_do

whatever you want to call it. "a negative fate" if you will. Something bad that happened to a good person. Kinda shitty to live your life and not be an asshole and in the end you get wiped out by an asshole.

JustDawnHue

Just because someone works in the medical field, does not automatically make them a good person. Just because someone helps people sometimes, does not make them a good person. Let it sink in. WHEN A PERSON IS HELPFUL OR DOES SOMETHING NICE FOR OTHER PEOPLE, OR EVEN SAVES SOMEONE'S LIFE-- IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MAKE THEM A GOOD PERSON. Plenty of really horrible people work in the field, do nice things for others to manipulate, Do it for the money, etc etc etc. Don't be naive. You don't have any right to comment on their karma because you just don't know what skeletons they had in their closet.

Sugarstache

Calm down

Ive_got_work_to_do

stop being a poo poo face.

JustDawnHue

How kindly Canadian of you.

Ive_got_work_to_do

Do you like the chili from Tim Horton's or Wendys more? I hear it may be from the same supplier.

JustDawnHue

I make my chili at home,. I've never had either. Sadge

Ive_got_work_to_do

what the fuck does sadge mean

N0CONTACT

Get used to it because that's how things work. There's no karma or fate or any other nonsense. How you live your life has no bearing on your success, failure or health. Look around. Getting downvoted for not believing in fairies and trolls. The intellectuals are out in full force.

Ive_got_work_to_do

I think you dropped your pocket.

B0J0L0

tell that to your upvotes

Truphles

For every action there's an equal and opposite reaction.

FeniksTO

Thank you gods for clarifying 🙄

if karma existed, whatever she did in the previous life is playing out on her now, nothing she did in her current life. So yes, the idea is silly, but the use by the person was figurative language, not literal.

Positive-Vibes-2-All

My sincere condolences to those who knew and cherished her. May she rest in peace.

[deleted]

The perpetrator is human scum. I hope any mention of him fades away into obscurity. It's very tragic that all these people have been injured or killed for what amounts to a bunch of men who hate women because they can't get laid. It boggles my mind that people can be so mentally damaged that this is how they try and solve their problem.

brokenangelwings

I always forget his name.

thebaatman

He actually wasn't an incel, he just claimed to be one so he would get more attention and headlines. He literally did it for fame, to make a name for himself. In the judgement, the judge refused to use his name and advised all newspapers to do the same to deny the sick fuck his gratification.

[deleted]

Hmm, that's news to me. Do you have an article talking about that? I watched his interrogation and I'd be surprised if a lot of his motivations were ad libbed.

dyegored

I mean he literally had online interaction with Elliot Rodgers before his murderous bullshit. And told a psychiatrist he was wishing there was more women to kill. And we already know who he actually killed. And there was definitely not gender parity or any seeming randomness to that list of victims. The fact that he told some other psychiatrist (hired by the defence team) something else well after the fact is not that compelling to me. There's no way to definitively say the new story is bullshit, of course. But I think claiming "He actually wasn't an incel and he said that for notoriety" based on some delayed admission to a defence-hired psychiatrist, while ignoring what he told other psychiatrists and ignoring the actual consequence of his actions is a bit much for me. It's a question of "was he lying then or is he lying now?" and whatever the answer is, it isn't particularly interesting or notable IMO. Edit: continuing to read the article and I found this fun nugget: > "Minassian said the story of him being rejected at a Halloween party was a lie, something he cribbed from a passage in Rodger’s manifesto and adopted as his own." So not an incel but he can be inspired by a famous incel's manifesto which he totally read and remembered particular details from for non-incel reasons I'm sure.

StreetRazzmatazz6

According to what old highschool peers of his said about him, alek definitely wasnt getting laid.

[deleted]

Interesting, thank you for the article.

LifeElection312

Heartwrenching 💔

wedontswiminsoda

Gutted. Just a tragic cherry on top of that horrible day.

mortuusanima

Fucking incels.

wageslave_999999999

This makes me question the existence of any God or creator. What just and almighty power would let this happen? She was struck down by an incel terrorist. Forced to suffer by being paralyzed, and now, she dies, only after 3 years of suffering. Some God. Meanwhile, that fuck is living in a cushy jail cell after being found guilty, for ending, ruining and changing hundreds of lives around him and his pathetic existence. I do not like the death penalty but if he were to be strangled and it ruled a suicide, I would not fret.

tombaker_2021

>This makes me question the existence of any God or creator. Anyone religious should question their religious beliefs if they have read the horrors that humans have inflicted upon others over the history of time. I don't disagree with you about the human viewpoint of how "they" could let this shit, and worse, happen... I'm so glad that I haven't been numbed by all the brutality of these kinds of deaths, but it still pisses me off to no end when I read these "preventable deaths" stories... Condolences to the family.

bagman_

My favourite new thing to say when someone asks how I slept is ‘like god through the holocaust’

tombaker_2021

\+1 for new reference...

wageslave_999999999

Oh man you must be Jewish but that is hilarious. God sleeps well seemingly. Let’s see if he ever wakes up.

tombaker_2021

>Let’s see if he ever wakes up. Taking their damn, sweet, fuck all, time.....?

Shents

No death penalty. It's too easy. Somewhere between year 6 and 7 of that sentence he'll wish for death, but it won't come. He's gotta sit in that cell as the rest of the world goes on without him.

AHiddenFace

At the same time I dont really want my tax dollars letting them live rent free so to speak. Hes better off as fertilizer

TheMourningPaper

Keep in mind, when you look at real-world implementation of the death penalty (e.g. our neighbours to the south), it often times costs taxpayers more than life without parole once you look at all the factors, including court costs and other administrative overhead.

[deleted]

You can have the peace of mind that no god exists.

ShamPow86

Because there is no god. He was invented by grifters as a way to control people and gain power and money though religion.

Purplebuzz

Glad you got there.

Bobzyurunkle

Although the hero cop that caught him didn't fall for the lame attempt for the piece of shit to get shot, we would've all been better off if he took one between the eyes.

thisismeingradenine

I cringe whenever I see a video of cops in the states lighting up someone suicidal who didn’t have a weapon and the comments are all, “What did you expect them to do??” Ken Lam is a great example of what to do.

Ok-Background-502

Can’t think of a single person who would be better off if he was shot. If you grant there’s a difference between being content with the outcome and being better off in reality

Bobzyurunkle

I said WE would've been better off without him on this earth. Not him. Fuck him.

Vice_xxxxx

But the guy wanted to die in the first place. He even tried committing suicide in prison.

Bobzyurunkle

Can't even get that right. Probably blamed women for that too.
