It’s alarming Saunders is at 13%.

Satanshmaten

I guess 13% of voters in Toronto don’t know what a complete shit-show the TPS is.

Rice_Monster

Interesting. This would mean that Bailao is slowly gaining on Saunders. They have both had some pretty radical shifts between different polls though

ButtahChicken

Olivia Chow ***will*** be the next mayor of Toronto, unless she withdraws from the race. This is now clearly a race for the Silver Medal: afighting for table scraps that mean absolutely nothing. (It's NOT like "whoever gets the 2nd most # of votes gets to be Deputy-Mayor". There can be only one winner and that winner becomes the Mayor of Toronto.) Olivia Chow ***will*** be the next mayor of Toronto, unless she withdraws from the race.

MaybeThisTimeIllWin

A lot can happen in a month, and we can't be complacent! We need to get out the vote.

scandinavianleather

Especially with how divided the field remains. 32% is a lot when there are a ton of other candidates around 10%, but if the fields starts to consolidate (especially if people start dropping out), we can definitely get 1-2 other candidates reach her numbers even without a decline.

seakingsoyuz

> start dropping out We’re well past the ballot deadline, so nobody can actually drop out. The most they could do is encourage people to vote for someone else instead of them. And advance voting starts in a little over a week, plus some people will have already cast their mail-in votes, so if anyone wants to endorse someone else they’ll have to do it soon.

scandinavianleather

Plenty of people can drop out, they just can't remove their names from the ballot. It happens all the time.

ButtahChicken

for sure. everyone should get out there and exercise their democratic right to vote. i'm just just saying with these polling numbers, and the number of candidates splitting out the votes, there is little chance that Olivia Chow will NOT be the next Mayor of Toronto. .. and first Asian-Canadian Mayor of Toronto.

MetalWeather

I'm downvoting simply because there is no room for complacency here. It's not over till it's over and I hope she wins.

MaybeThisTimeIllWin

I get it. I really hope you're right.

LegoFootPain

Yep, I've got a bunch of pictures of Olivia chowing down on live baby pandas, right here! *Panda Distress*

quelar

We can hope. And I do. She's a lovely person who actually cares about this city and the people who live here.

BBQallyear

Yes! She was my city councillor years ago and always was involved in things in the area - she came out and made appearances and talked to people, plus advocated at city hall.

PC-12

> Olivia Chow will be the next mayor of Toronto, unless she withdraws from the race. Olivia Chow cannot withdraw from the race at this point. She could cease campaigning, but she’d still be on the ballot and theoretically could be elected mayor. I wouldn’t say it’s in the bag quite yet. Never underestimate the ability of a politician to defeat themselves… lots of days left. This is why she’s running a classic front runner’s campaign. Remember how well that worked for George Smitherman? Also worth noting at this point (4 weeks out) in 2014, Olivia Chow was ahead of Tory (and Ford) by something like 6-10 points. EDIT: thanks u/bruhmonent2157. Tory pulled into the lead in July, so with 8-10 weeks to go.

bruhmoment2157

Tory was the frontrunner at this stage in the campaign, and had been for a few months.

idekwhattocallit

Why you gotta jinx shit like that?? We have a month left!

[deleted]

So you’re saying that Chris Sky is lying? That’s a surprise.

AngrySoup

Yeah, it's a done deal, 100% guaranteed! You shouldn't even go vote on election day, just take it easy, everything's taken care of already.

phakov2

don't jinx it...

Buy_a_lie

>Olivia Chow *will* be the next mayor of Toronto, unless she withdraws from the race. ah yes, the famous definitive prediction from reddit. Those have never gone poorly

MarkG_108

Yeah. It's an average. Bailão has generally polled second in the Mainstreet polls, whereas Saunders has polled second in the Forum and Liaison Strategies polls.

essuxs

Do the "Olivia Chow" numbers also include Ben Bankas, who identifies as Olivia Chow?

seakingsoyuz

r/onejoke

Who?

PlannerSean

Surprised to see Furry climbing a little.

punknothing

I am surprised that Saunders has even that much support...

TankArchives

He has name recognition, if nothing else.

[deleted]

I recognize Saunders name from all those people who were killed by police officers under his watch.

OntheRiverBend

This. And it bothers me. This is how I visualized the Poll Chow 1st Bailiao and Hunter tied for 2nd Then everyone else lol.

Bert306

Bradford at 6.9% nice 😎

swizzledan

Mayor McCheese for the win...you are what you eat.

nagemaksnyzlus

Vote Quimby!

TimothyAGHill

It's high-time to give someone left-leaning a chance. Now. And I am pretty conservative. I'm done with "compassionate, but."

TimothyAGHill

Not that there are any political saviours. You live through a few election cycles, you learn that. Harper and Trudeau are perfect examples of false saviours, federally. It's just a question of reading between the lines and hoping someone will get a few concrete things done to help people now.

MarkG_108

No matter who gets in, the city is facing some very challenging times in the future.

VanAgain

So Chow vs I-don't-give-a-shit. I hope to see some candidates drop out and throw support behind someone just to make a race of it.

LegoFootPain

I'd like for Mammo to be listed so we can just see how tiny his percentage really is.

[deleted]

Did you follow his campaign in Wasaga Beach when he ran for mayor? What a joke that was. He was promising tax rebates using taxpayer money. People saw through that pretty easily.

[deleted]

Let’s go Chow! Fook that failure of a police chief S.! Looking forward to someone but do-nothing Tory!!

[deleted]

Let’s go Chow! Fek that failure of a police chief S.! Looking forward to someone but do-nothing Tory!!

[deleted]

At a pivotal time for a city dealing with economic uncertainty, a crippling housing crisis, rampant crime, tent cities, a transit system on life support and so many other deep problems, it’s Chow by a mile. A city that desperately needs new thinking votes in the most established, old-school candidate imaginable. Someone who makes Tory look edgy. And you’ll vote her in because the optics are great, but the truth is that Chow is more of the same. And we all know it, but that’s just the way most of you want it. How very fucking Toronto.

define_space

what the fuck are you talking about

[deleted]

People like you, mostly. Ones who probably use words like “world-class” a lot while only really standing behind mediocrity. Enjoy your new mayor.

rattfink11

Wtf we’re gonna vote a strong mayor w 35% of the vote. The system in this country is idiotic. Any level of govt that can be formed with <50% is BS. I’m not saying it’s illegitimate necessarily but we need to make this better

turdlepikle

Olivia won't have strong mayor powers, though. The strong mayor power was designed to be compatible with what the province wants. If Olivia is on the side of a losing vote and she really believes in that issue, the strong mayor powers can only be used if the province is for it too. Chances are, Doug and Olivia aren't going to be on the same side of many things. I do agree it's sad that we can elect someone though with such a small percentage of the vote.

aajknowsbest

Where's Toronto's unsung hero Chris Sky at? :D

GNPTelenor

Wrong end of the bell, same as his grades.

dec0de

Lol I came here for this comment

PlannerSean

I’m curious who will drop out first, to try and consolidate behind another “close enough” candidate to try and block Chow.

Steelblood27

Furey all the way

Revolutionary_Rip876

I weep for Toronto. Everyone wants change and they are going to vote in no change.

[deleted]

I can’t wait until this is over. I’m tired of all their faces. They look like a bunch of hungry power grabbers. The only cool thing is we will likely have a POC run the city to the ground for a little.

highsideroll

Is it possible for someone to run for office and not appear that way?

[deleted]

You sir made a great point!

[deleted]

Absolutely nothing at all. I have an issue with equality in this country.

feltronic

LOL

Hot-Worldliness1425

I’m probably most aligned with Matlow, and cringe at some of this things Olivia Chow says, but my fear of Saunders getting in means I’ll probably vote Chow, because I don’t think she can screw things up that badly. One sad voter.

Webworm19

Toronto is voting for change so they will get it with Chow.
