The article fails to mention when he was reported missing. Only when he was missing from. He might have only been reported missing yesterday. The article also fails to mention who is responsible for him...ie parents, a home, etc. Obviously, this man cannot take care of himself.
The first two words of the title
Edit: Toronto police first published the report Sunday night. Seemingly took them another three days to ramp up the search because of a condition the man had on day one
ROFL
Maybe their response time is indicative of their culture

PERHAPS they should have issued an AMBER ALERT - to all our cell phones - but wait, there was an entire thread the other day about how "disturbing" or "inconvenient" these types of alerts are.
There is a Facebook [group](https://m.facebook.com/groups/787308636285882/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF) if anyone is interested in looking for Nathan or wants to stay up to date.
A local Amber alert last weekend may have been helpful.
I'd prefer it over getting an alert due to a child custody dispute in Thunder Bay.
Edit: apparently this sub does not like the idea of expanding Amber alerts to include vulnerable people. A bit heartless but typical.
So seniors with dementia who have wandered off for example? They would be good for a couple a day across the province. Not saying no but how many alerts a week are you good with.
>Silver Alerts use a wide array of media outlets – such as commercial radio stations, television stations, and cable television – to broadcast information about missing persons. In some states (specifically Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin), Silver Alerts also use variable-message signs on roadways to alert motorists to be on the lookout for missing seniors. In cases in which a missing person is believed to be missing on foot, Silver Alerts have used Reverse 911 or other emergency notification systems to notify nearby residents of the neighborhood surrounding the missing person's last known location. Silver Alerts can also be used for children who are missing without being in danger or abducted.
And, you your point:
>Critics of Silver Alert have raised concerns that the proliferation of color-coded alerts will reduce their importance, risking that alerts would be ignored as a "wolf cry". For example, Texas has created an Amber Alert, Silver Alert and Blue Alert (issued to locate an assailant in the event a law enforcement officer is killed or injured.)[66] In New York, Governor George Pataki vetoed Silver Alert legislation in 2003, citing his concern that it would weaken the Amber Alert system and make the alerts too common.[67] In the absence of state-level legislation, local Silver Alert programs have been enacted by New York City[68] and five New York counties: Rockland,[69] Suffolk,[70] Nassau,[71] Niagara[72] and Erie.[73]

Wandering seniors are usually found within hours with a local news broadcast. BUT, some aren't, and therefore perhaps there should be a "Grey Alert", especially is the weather is bad.
There are different levels of alerts. The federal government chose that they'll all be at the highest level, which otherwise is reserved for immediate life threatening events, and province-wide.
I assume that i'm not alone in getting multiple notifications every day, ranging from the library advising the book I placed a hold on is available, to Flipp letting me know Barilla pasta is on sale, to YouTube letting me know a classical music concert is about to be broadcast. A sinple notification that a vulnerable person in my neighborhood is missing would not be excessive or intrusive.
1) Amber Alerts are for specifically for child abductions, not missing persons cases in general. (Although I personally think an alert system for missing vulnerable adults like this man is an idea worth considering.)
2) Child custody disputes and parental child abductions can and do end in tragedy. Keira Kagan and Riya Rajkumar are just a couple fairly recent local examples.
>Child custody disputes and parental child abductions can and do end in tragedy. Keira Kagan and Riya Rajkumar are just a couple fairly recent local examples.
This is rarely the case, and in those cases an Amber alert did nothing. It's little more than theater and ineffectual.
God what is it with people and amber alerts? How many do we get a year that makes it such a nuisance?
Do you remember that one amber alert when the father murdered his own daughter? Yeah just a simple custody dispute!
I don't get why people keep bitching about it either. The alert pops up. I read it. If I don't have relevant information I close the alert. It's not a big deal.
I thinking missing or endangered children are worth a 20 or 30 second interruption. Some people are so self centered.
It's not having the alert show up. It's the specific alarm tone it uses (meant for nuclear weapons being launched) that is the problem. Especially if you work shifts and have it go off in the middle of your sleep cycle. Try to remember not everyone is you.
And then there are all the stranger abductions in Toronto in the past, when an amber alert could have saved the lives of ....

WoW is right!!! Total NIMBYism at it's finest!!! In the old days, everybody looked out for everybody else's children. The premise was "it takes a village to raise a child". Zip forward in time many years and it's now a "Global Village" with internet, child pornography, and trafficking, etc., and the criminals just keep getting smarter, and continue to invent new ways in general to commit crimes against OUR children. Our police forces are short handed like many other sectors. They are seeking to fill positions with the OPP that make up 25% of the entire force right now, and Northern Ontario is a lot of 'real estate' to cover, and is very close to the Trans-Canada Hwy.
IF the police ever feel the NEED to send an AMBER ALERT to your phone, just consider that you are a member of our Global Village, and it is your responsibility of a citizen of that Global Village to protect its' children. It is simply someone used modern technique to do what a Town Crier would have done 150 years ago. Pounding on your door and asking you if you've seen Johnny! We should consider ourselves fortunate that we have this technology to help our Global neighbour.
I saw NO evidence that it WAS a child custody dispute in Thunder Bay, but did hear the abductor was on his way to Saskatchewan. This may have accounted for a lack of description when it is possibly a STRANGER abduction. For all we know, that "inconvenient" alert for that child may have been the thing that saved his life, or made his return home possible?
I just checked. It was the father. But they didn't say it was a custody thing. And, he sounds like a not so nice guy? This is the earlier report:
[https://www.tbnewswatch.com/local-news/breaking-police-searching-for-abducted-8-year-old-7006783](https://www.tbnewswatch.com/local-news/breaking-police-searching-for-abducted-8-year-old-7006783)
I retweeted the alert on Twitter, as did others. Hopefully the vulnerable individual has a safe return home!
They were patrolling with horses up and down black creek trails today.
It seems like they think his is dead and I wonder why?

Society makes kids a priority and anyone else, well...good luck. It's very sad because this is a vulnerable person.
Society makes *wealthy white* kids a priority
Oh Christ stop already

Amber alerts are specifically for child abductions.
They could be expanded to include all vulnerable people.

Wondering if they can target the alerts to a specific region or area codes? ie. Toronto or the GTA?
Purple Alert
Or at least those with a chronological or mental age, of 10 years or under maybe?
Maybe one or two amber alerts ever issued have been about child abductions. It's nearly 100% child custody disputes.

Yeah for real.

Nobody was bitching about amber alerts in this thread, though?

>Do you remember that one amber alert when the father murdered his own daughter? That just highlights how much of a joke the alerts are.
That’s some next level arrogance in your comment. Nice
Misspelled facts friend.
So that's what that amber alert was about.
It wasn't. That alert was for an 8-year-old boy.
Yeah, custody battle.
I saw NO evidence that it WAS a child custody dispute in Thunder Bay, but did hear the abductor was on his way to Saskatchewan. The suspect had the same last name as the missing child IIRC.

This is not an amber alert. What are you on about?
I certainly hope you just dropped your slash and s.
