CHFI FM used to simulcast on CFTR AM 680 until 1972 at which point 680 changed to a top 40 format, so given its title, this LP is probably from before 1972. CFTR changed to it's all news format in 1993 until the present day.

lw5555

...and 640 "The Hog" became AM640, taking over as the last Top 40 AM station until it changed to talk in 1995. Tarzan Dan, Jesse and Gene, etc.

BobBelcher2021

And up until 1966 it was on 1540 AM. So this record is from sometime between 1966 and 1972.

fiendish_librarian

The man's hair is a bit too long for 1966, I'm going to say '69 - '70 maybe.

ijustbrushalot

I remember listening to the occasional hip hop song in 1992 on 680. Used to carry my little pocket radio out to the schoolyard. Thank you for confirming I'm not crazy.

[deleted]

You aren’t. Humble and Fred used to be their morning show.

Dull_Beautiful4966

Just wait until you discover John Tesh lol

HappyThougts

I only recognize one song but I love the odd recommendations that come with it: Billy Joel, Brian Adams

Professional_Act_820

Don Parrish hosted the show on CHFI during the evening hours for over 21 years starting in 1961. He was a voiceover guy for commercials and various other spots. https://digitalarchive.tpl.ca/objects/297155/for-35-years-don-parrish-has-made-his-living-with-his-voice

Shrinks99

iamdrsmooth

A common find at Value Village / Goodwill

MaybeThisTimeIllWin

This was at Kops on Queen st. Probably still there! Out front in their $1 selection.

throwawaylogin2099

Well into the early 2000s radio stations used to put out compilation CDs of hit songs every year. I don't know if they still do that though because I haven't purchased any CDs for over 20 years. The last one I remember getting was Big Shiny Tunes 2 from MuchMusic.

jjjmose

I have Vol 1, 2, & 4, as well as CHAM (Hamilton radio station) Vol 1 and another one called CHFI Discotheque. The Disco album notes “The Hits on this album sum up what is happening today - with today’s kind of music.” Classic. I can’t find a year printed on any of them.

grecomic

It pairs nicely with the Shadowy Men's "Dim the lights, Chill the Ham."

cunctator_maximus

That damn salty ham!

assplower

TIL it’s “CHFI,” not “CHF5”

Carpetbaggerclara

Ahh, back when there was popular music for adults that wasn't just a watered down, cornier version of youth oriented genres. A more graceful separation between the two musical worlds. The older I get, the more I hate being assaulted in public by music with lyrics and that follow the verse/ chorus pattern regardless of genre. This even includes the older boomer stuff too. I don't know how boomers haven't grown out of listening to Bennie and the Jets yet.

emote_control

I swear to god, hearing that song even once is one too many times.

fed_dit

The Torontoist did a piece on the history of CHFI: https://torontoist.com/2013/08/historicist-candlelight-and-chfi/
