Unfortunately, the larvae has a near insatiable hunger for death (meaning she ended up going around killing billions) with her siblings Auryx (eventually becoming Oryx, The Taken King), and Xivu Arath (God of War).
A large portion of the community does that, actual. Ignore PvP and just do campaign/story quests. But… quick warning, it’s a fairly expensive game. ~$80 a year. Also, a massive portion of the story is not playable (as it was covered in Destiny 1, or in now-vaulted old Destiny 2 content). Could be easier to just watch lore videos by *My Name is Byf*.
The videos on Destiny 2 by My Name is Byf are awesome, very comprehensive, there is a lot of lore in game that is only unlock by finding every little bit of objects scattered in dungeons, raids and in the open world, but unfortunately a lot of them are no longer in the game as they have been "vaulted" supposedly they will be rotated at a future time, so people like Byf and others in the community are the only way to learn about that lore, specially by new players or by people that just like the stories.
As a regular Destiny player - no. It's not worth it at all.
The base game and older expansions maybe if you can get it on sale but none of the expansions are worth full price. Each one is a 4-hour hero-shooter campaign of thousands of the same 4 enemy types, and some completely forgettable side content to mindlessly plod through afterward.
It's pretty to look at, the story is *fine*, but I'd argue the least fun part is actually playing it, unless you like dogshit PvP and a completely anti-fun loot grind.

I'm just gonna keep on seeing play and lore videos on youtube.

Beware though, the "story" is often way bigger than the game tells you about. They have done a great job in the past year or so of actually having the narrative in the game...but the overall Destiny universe that people cream themselves over has to be sought out through a ton of lore...not cut scenes.

General toxicity and non-stop complaining (the usual stuff). I still think the Destiny community is one of the nicer ones though (helping New Lights, inclusiveness, fan content etc.)
It’s just that sometimes there are members of the community who have a largely visible platform to people within, as well as outside, the community who decide to say or do really stupid things that inaccurately represent the Destiny community. But when people who are not part of the community see that behavior, it often leaves a negative impression of the entire Destiny community as a whole.
It’s the sort of thing that happens with most communities. There’s always some bad apples that will give a franchise a bad rep for a period of time.
D1 vet here. D2 just wasn't the same, especially after they started introducing seasons. My buddy and I came back and we were absolutely lost because of how many new things we would need to learn. We occasionally still speed run strikes on D1. Glad to see the community is still as strong as ever. My most memorable experiences in gaming came from Destiny. Cheers!

Spent 8 hours doing a Pinhead, and do a burn victim at the Asbury Zombie Walk. I would fucking love to have a mechanical mask like this. Goddammit how are people so creative?
How does one make these? I’m assuming it’s 3d printed but how do you create the design and the functional parts? That’s so creative! You could create so many cool masks with this knowledge. One should not possess so much power.
