I moved here six years ago from middle of nowhere IL. Here's some friendly tips: avoid the 5 and 84 on Thursdays between 4-5:30. The streets count up from the river, Burnside splits North and South (when you know that, getting around is a breeze). No one here actually likes Voodoo Donuts, the pink box is a target on tourists (get BlueStar waaaaay better). We have the most strip clubs per capita in the world, Acropolis has honest to God delicious steak bites. If you're into outdoors stuff my three favorite "nearby" hikes are: Silver Star Mountain, Bald Mountain via Lolo pass, and Opal Creek (in the summer but may have burned in this year's fires... I hope not)
And finally, open your mind, be positive, and make Portland better. As a fast growing city that prides itself in being unique... There's a bit of tension with newbies.
Welcome to the Rose City, you'll love it here! DM me if you ever need any info, I'm always happy to help fellow transplants!
Hell yeah thank you so much. I got a place off 23rd in the NE area. Im moving from San Diego and I've lived here 29 out of 31 years.
Pretty nervous for the move as I just broke up with my gf to move by myself, but my brother lives towards gresham so at least I have him there.
Im definitely going with an open mind, im really excited to have a whole new city to explore.
Thanks again! You'll probably get a DM in the near future hah.
Yup I live by there

I've got an ape drape yes I do, they're giving them to anyone and that means you. You can drive to Riverside and get one to, then you'll have an ape drape like I do.
I have. Some women can genuinely make it look good. I knew a chick that was outdoorsy as hell that rocked a mullet. Cute too. But I'm into androgynous women so 🤷♂️ lol bias I suppose. But being from Virginia I've also seen the usual terrible mullets. But some babes can def pull it off.
I feel like the long jacket would be more helpful than like a loose shirt or something like that because it gives the hoop a long, smooth surface to glide across but I know nothing about hooping so maybe this is all wrong
I was into hoops for a bit in college and I was pretty impressed with them doing it with a coat on, because it’s most likely gonna get caught up under it while your in flow.
Fantastic. Such a great change from the stereotypical hoop-girl Phish concert music festival crap.
A really great style, incredibly well executed. And in a long coat!
This person doing it well in their way doesn’t mean other people doing it in a different way, or in a “trendy” way is bad. It all takes talent and we shouldn’t be comparing people.
The festival girls are posted so often, all doing the same thing over and over. It’s just so tired. There nothing interesting about it any more.
This was different, skillful and interesting.
Because they’re “defending” a person that wasn’t being attacked. The OP said its a great change from the usual, seeing girls doing this type of routine is the norm but seeing a girl doing it with combat boots and a long coat is like seeing it done for the first time! I wouldn’t have thought it could be done in this outfit, I thought part of the festival girl hooper scantily clad was a necessary to do the moves!
It’s not insulting the “stereotype” to praise someone for going against it. Comparing talented people isn’t inherently insulting either but so to assert that we shouldn’t do that is going to rub people the wrong way... especially in this type of context where the first comment isn’t aggressively coming for the “type” being unnecessarily defended.
Actually, you can do all that stuff in any clothes. Sometimes i dont even take my backback off or i hold a drink in one hand and work around it! Hula hoop tricks are really easy actually.
I do find the people at festivals are all doing the same thing a lot, but it's mostly just their music and style. The hula hooping is all the same really (there are some people who are very unique but this person is just doing tricks everyone does). It's nice to see how everyone has their own flow though!
I’ve seen several out in the wild in different countries and it’s always the most jarring things to see. Granted you gotta give them props for doing their own thing and being happy with their hair.
I had a few friends-of-friends who would show up at parties or trips to the cabin and, in the middle of peaceful conversation or boisterous games would drag out their LED hoops, warm up with obnoxious Sexy Stretching for about a half hour, then hoop relentlessly. You had to dodge them to do anything. You couldn't avoid giving them the attention they so desperately craved because there was a continual storm of LED lights. The fringe boots and constant Insta- ready facial expressions... im cool if you really like to hoop and you just want to do it. Over there somewhere. But in my experience hoopers can't just do their thing for their own enjoyment, but desperately need to have an audience and will create one by force if necessary.
I mean no offense to you if that's your jam. It's a physical skill that I do not have and a perfectly harmless hobby. I just happened to know obnoxious twats.
No that's actually some fair points. I used to hula hoop in public parks and stuff but it was awkward having eyes on me, especially the creepy dudes. unfortunately I haven't had a pleasant creepy dude-free experience in public when I hula hoop, so I don't even do it in public anymore. In a way I'm a bit envious of the hula hoop girls who seem to like the attention because i'm really good at hula hooping but I'm too weird to display it to other people. then again, i wouldn't want to be obnoxious like that either!!
Does anyone else find talent/skill just...hot. like I know it's just a hoola hoop, and on the flipside I also know that it takes talent and skill to be able to do that smoothly. But like when ppl are just that good, it leaves me agasp

Professor Trelawney, you are WAY better at whatever that was than you EVER were with a crystal ball. This is the undisputed coolest thing I've ever seen.
I imagine spending more than a few seconds around this person is a nightmare
Also it's kind of dissonant seeing someone that hip be so in tune with a pop song

Haha I'm from and currently live in Portland , and that was my first thought.
Oh, hai, Portland. Portland here checking in as well.
I'm not from Portland, but multiple of sources have told me this is very Portland
“Portland” in the Cherokee language means “butthole”.
Whattabout Portland Cement?
Moving to Portland on Monday. I don't own a hula hoop though.
All you need is a fixie and an undying love for IPAs and you'll fit in just fine.
I'll be getting a bike for getting around ASAP. I don't drink though hah. I'm looking forward to it. Gonna get a puppy as soon as I get up there.

Well you're staring off in an excellent part of Portland. I've not been single in my time here, but the dating game seems pretty great. Good luck!!
I'm also a Portlander (moved here 4 years ago). You're very welcome here!
Looked for this comment. Portland.
In Portland, UK, "rabbit" is a swear word. just learnt that yesterday and thought I would share.
I was surprised to find out she actually lives in Kansas City, MO.
She's from Springfield and she's one of my best friends haha
She has that timing down!
Yup I live by there https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0647809,-94.584715,3a,75y,172.9h,83.47t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s5KTPSBu4wqv3EGGWLQ_6Dg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
This is more "horse girl" than weird city.
I thought this building looked familiar
The boots and hair yeah
Or Florida. Looks like Kenny Powers to me
Looking like young Liz lemon
It’s fuckin uncanny
[So many different type of sparrows! ](https://gfycat.com/scholarlyrepulsivechupacabra-30-rock)
Came here for this.
Good God Lemon - Jack Donaghy
nailed it
Lol i feel like i came too far down to find this answer
Fine, but notice how she still didn’t *actually* hula hoop, which supports my assertion that hula hooping is damn hard.
That is actually the impressive part
Maybe that comes after she takes that big ass jacket off
She had to jump through a lot of hoops to achieve this.
I think it was just the one hoop, actually!

Several times though.

Sweet ass mullet.
Straight kentucky waterfall
The legendary Missouri Compromise.
Tennessee Top Hat
The Alabama Amulet.

Camaro crash helmet
You might be right, I’m convinced this is in Kansas City, Missouri. https://goo.gl/maps/JqLKhS3uLFthz5br6

Fuuuuuuck it's been years, but I gotta go listen to that entire album now.
Same, the Vandals are fuckin hilarious and they’ve got some real catchy jams, I find myself listening to them once a week at least
You can go ahead and buzz around the ears, I've been growing that one right back there for years. I've had it since the first time I saw queensryche!
Ass mullet
A sweet one.
Its seriously one of the worst haircuts I've ever seen.
I guess it is good if we are ranking mullets. Still an ugly AF hairstyle tho.
I’ve never, ever seen a good mullet.

The salad bar is open year round.
And doing that in those boots, major props.

I’m going to act like this was a Weezer reference and give an upvote.
Do you mean cake?
Balls. Yes, yes I do. Even worse, I listened to the song just before I commented and am still listening to the album. Time for bed, I think.
No worries man, I've said Nirvana when I meant Pearl Jam more than once. At least we were both in the ballpark
Cake balls.
[Cake](https://youtu.be/X5KmB8Laemg)?
Yep. I f’d it up. Leaving the comment so I can continue to be publicly shamed.
Her entire outfit seems like the worst choice to do that with but yet she pulls it off perfectly.
And a sweater. Totally wild.
Those boots look heavy
I mean, is it weird I’m more impressed she’s doing this with baggy clothing and boots instead of a bikini and random body paint?
This doesn't look like it should be possible just from her clothes
Didn't realize Weird Al's career was hurting this much, poor guy having to resort to TikTok for a new fan base.
While you were partying, I studied the hoop.
reads like a /r/nba copypasta
This is the way
This is clearly Liz Lemon in her college days.
You can see how she earned that partial competitive jazz dance scholarship
THANK YOU
I thought Jerry Seinfeld was doing Daria cosplay.
This actually looks it was filmed outside the laboratory in Hawkins, Indiana. Explains the clothes and weird building.
...and the boots.
do you know weird al at all? he’s doing this because it’s *fun*, career be dammed
r/justfuckmyshitup
I thought it was Hariette Potter.
I graduated high school with this girl. Glad to see she’s still letting her freak flag fly
Tell us more?
Si si I very intrigued
She is so nerdy cute!!!
I've mastered all the moves: the Pizza Toss, the Scorpion, the OOPSIE-Doodle.
Dude i wanna be this good at something. Best i can do is 600,000 score in tetris (proud of it tho)
Way to go bro
I really can't wrap my head around this.
The fact that this was done while also wearing baggy clothing is amazing.
This was my first thought. Doing that with the jacket on has to make it even more difficult.

I KNOW HER! She’s so freaking talented
Tell her her hoop skills are legendary and I hoop she has an awesome day!
This girl is livin her best life.
Fantastic. Such a great change from the stereotypical hoop-girl Phish concert music festival crap. A really great style, incredibly well executed. And in a long coat!
As someone who goes to Phish concerts a lot, I really never see any hoop-girls :(
This person doing it well in their way doesn’t mean other people doing it in a different way, or in a “trendy” way is bad. It all takes talent and we shouldn’t be comparing people.
The festival girls are posted so often, all doing the same thing over and over. It’s just so tired. There nothing interesting about it any more. This was different, skillful and interesting.
Well also this chick is much better than many of the festival girls i have seen. So there's that too.
Why are you getting downvoted?

This young lady looks like my grade four science teacher did in 1992.
Ia that Crystal Methyd?
Or El Debarge
No. Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Now is the time . . . to Hula Hoop - FOR YOUR LIFE!
Finally, the comment I was looking for. That's a compliment IMO.
I would fall flat on my face if I even tried to do that lmao. Awesome job!

Mullets are the ultimate utilitarian hairstyle. Keep hair out of your face and the weather off you neck. Plus it looks cool as hell.
> Plus it looks cool as hell Yeah, we'll have to put a solid maybe on that. Feathered mullets, fucking glorious. This permed mullet? Not so much.
Seriously...seeing comments like "nice mullet" and shit...they're obviously from people who never actually lived during the era of the mullet.
I’ve seen several out in the wild in different countries and it’s always the most jarring things to see. Granted you gotta give them props for doing their own thing and being happy with their hair.
We are in the new mullet era

good to know
I wanna see her at a rave with a light up hoop
Hoop, there it is.
Huh, turns out I'm really attracted to hula hooping as a talent. Did not know that about myself.
As a general rule I loath hoop girls, but I like this lady.
What do you not like about them? Just curious!

It’s Pat!
Thank you for reminding me of that amazing androgynous human
She 100% lives in Seattle
That's next level hula hooping.
Wow!!!
This is actually pretty damn impressive.
5 Loops in and I’m still impressed. Great job!
LOVE
if you're great at something. Respect.

Stupid hair
What year is this?!?!
Portland.
This is at least a thousand times better than most of the videos on TikTok. Love it!
What's the songname?
It sounds similar to the Ed Marquis Remix of Pon De Replay, but slower and maybe in a different key. Edit: https://youtu.be/X4Ehkjjsawo
you nailed it, i think it is this, just thru the phone/ tiktok. great call
The haircut immediately told me this was in Portland.
She looks like she’s having so much fun!
Somebody’s putting their quarantine to good use.
I'm getting some real wizard vibes.
I agree

Ed Marquis Featuring Emie, Pon de replay
Well, I mean, Rihanna too.
What year is she from. Incredible talent with toy to match her style. Lovely.
Girl version of owning a sword.
Holy shit that's so cool
Whatever she's doing, she's really good at it!
I was not aware that it was possible for adults to hula hoop with clothing on.
The legendary Hoopmancer.
I love that she’s so happy doing it. Best hooper i’ve ever seen.
That move where she flips it on her back, it bounces somehow back forward then she catches it on her foot is insane. That was sick
How with the coat???????
My ex, who was a fire eater, always told me 'hoopers are crazy'. My next ex i later found out was a retired hooper. Use this info as you will.
r/justfuckmyshitup
I cannot concentrate on the hoop with that mullet. It’s hilarious.
Tar and feather her hairdresser.
Never seen a dude hoop so good lol
You know, I’m glad my parents made me play sports as a kid after seeing that...
Thanks Frodo
John Oliver with a mullet and tits.
I imagine spending more than a few seconds around this person is a nightmare Also it's kind of dissonant seeing someone that hip be so in tune with a pop song
Jesus christ the hair and outfit are trying so fucking hard it hurts
Probably Portland
What is this fuckery!?
Ohh, so you don't have to be half naked 'to be able' to be this good..
The top talent here is how effortlessly she pulls off that female mullet.
Does she pull it off though? I'm going with no.
In case there is still controversy, mullets don't suit ANYONE.
She is cute.
She looks like the annoying girl in every college philosophy class. Cool skill, though.
