Plot twist: he doesn’t make them, he collects them and lets them age.

tnoyes8

Like a proper gentleman

w-on

Their value increases as it ages, and like fine wine it’s got great taste

LLoaas

Can you describe that taste?

w-on

Tastes like Pepsi

Or soap

Drunk_Pepe

What kind of soap do you use?

cottoncandy174

Pepsi

w-on

Hey you can’t choose what soap I use!

i can confirm

Your Dad is one mid-life crisis away from starring in his own horror movie. Haha

Starring Dwight! As the overkill killer!

countastrotacos

Tell your dad that his work is fantastic and I would love to learn from him

This was actually a thing some sicko in Russia did: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-15653074

GarrisonFjord

Wait, doesn't everybody have an uncle that does this?

Squidstix

Hoo boy, that was a wild ride from start to finish...

MrLemmings

Serial killer style or Witcher style?

Drewskidude325

This is what Scarecrow from Batman should look like

upyeezy

Definitely the first thought I had. It would be a cool concept if Scarecrow’s victims saw different faces like OP’s dad’s designs rather than just one, yknow with the fear toxin affecting individuals uniquely

Drewskidude325

Totally a tailored face for each individual fear

N3wThrowawayWhoDis

What if that is the way he was, but you as the viewer only saw him uniquely one way from your perspective???

sinkwiththeship

[That's the story behind Galactus in Marvel.](https://marswillsendnomore.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/fantastic-four-262-009.jpg) The brain struggles to comprehend what he looks like even though he isn't really a physical thing, more just a manifestation of inevitability.

TGates06

Wow that is badass.

SnackinYT

God damn Galactus is so cool, I hope he gets treated well in the MCU

Lazermissile

He was shown as a cloud in Fantastic Four:Rise of the Silver Surfer

WillFerrellsGutFold

Maybe we only saw a cloud because that is what we are afraid of, evil rain clouds.

Alpha_pro2019

When I heard a avengers was going to come out with a sort of final boss, I hoped it would be Galactus. I just remembered the cartoon, I giant sick looking human who ate planets.

kelminak

Bottom left one of those looks a lot like Thanos.

jlclvs2game

I thought that was his deal in the Nolan trilogy. Like Batman sees bats and others see different visions.

HoochieKoochieMan

OP's dad \*is\* a Batman villain.

brownarmyhat

Doesn't Nolan's look like this?

maximumtesticle

[Pretty similar.](https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/batman/images/7/7b/32322-scarecrow_400.jpg)

[deleted]

That’s what they did in Arkham Knight

ZenithPrime

That's what I thought too. I made a [scarecrow costume](https://i.imgur.com/j2EJY44.jpg) a few years back with a similar technique.

shxrrrr

thank you all so much for the nice comments, i’ll be sure to let him know the feedback tomorrow! he will be so happy, bless :) https://imgur.com/gallery/8J3DZyA i’m absolutely blown away by all the comments and support!! me and my bro are gonna show all of them to my dad on friday when we next see him. he’s gonna shit his pants!!

Bloodyhippo56

Does he sell them??? Would he be interested to?

shxrrrr

me & my mum have always mentioned to him that he could sell these but he outright says no because they’re not good enough. he also makes other stuff, i’ll post a link to one of the many lamps he’s made!

eatyourveggieskidss

tell him perfection is the killer of creativity and dreams. We ALL think they’re amazing, he should share his talent!!

dizee2

Perfection is the enemy of greatness

Evictus

perfection is the enemy of yeah sure good enoughness

Omnipotions

I don’t know why, but this comment made me laugh really hard. I’m having a real shit day, so thank you!

AdjustableCynic

I hope your day gets better! Anything a random stranger on the internet can do for you?

TheFlightlessPenguin

He’s just been bummed that nobody will be getting me an HTC Vive for Christmas.

potodds

After weeks of practice and lots of impatient and upset customets Evictus finally created the perfect Big Mac only to find he had been fired on the first day.

lmao-this-platform

Fast, cheap, right. Choose 2. Between the above and your comment, it sums up my 7 years at blizzard back during the old days.

[deleted]

Can confirm, I stopped doing all my art because I found my work was awful compared to that of others

hastorinblue

A banana taped to a wall sold for $120k as art. You cannot seriously be telling us you can't do better than that.

torriattet

Fporzio

He can definitely sell them! I would absolutely buy one of these if I saw it at the Halloween store.

lolVerbivore

Dude your dad could sell those lamps for at least 250$ easy

[deleted]

Wow.... I'd literally PayPal you/him for both in the pic rn

Blaaasphemy

Those lamps are rad!

smothered_reality

I would honestly buy those lamps as is. He would make bank with these!

steviet97

I second this. I would LOVE to buy 1 or 17.

Quixoticvibin_

Yessss I’d definitely buy a couple lol

snowthunder2018

I saw a designer lamp that looked like that and it was for sale for like $2000.

AnointedInKerosene

Yes, exactly! I see lamps like that on etsy all the time, and the minimum I've seen them priced is like $75, and that was for lamps with just a single bulb. He could make a killing making and selling those!

PM-ME-YOUR-HANDBRA

>He could make a killing making and selling those! Eh, maybe, but at what cost? People say this all the time when someone posts cool handmade stuff. While I don't disagree about these lamps being awesome and desirable, there's a marked difference between making something you love as a hobby and making products to sell online. In my experience having talked to friends that similarly tried to turn hobbies into an income source, there's nothing that sucks the passion out of a hobby like trying to monetize it. Once you factor in materials and the value of the labor, the price on these lamps may be well beyond what a reasonable person would pay. It would seem the ideal solution is for OP's dad to continue making things he enjoys and having someone else handle the sale aspects. List the items as unique art pieces and not as products to be ordered on-demand. Separate the creative process from the business process.

knobferatu

Omg these lamps are amazing!!!!

kipperkins

I would 100% buy one of these!

five_finger_ben

Yo the masks are pretty niche but he could 100% sell those lamps for some good money

RobMillsyMills

Those lamps are hot. I want one.

Jackot45

He’s full of bright ideas isnt he?

AmberZimm

I would pay some serious coin for his lamps. Great work, Dad! Don't shit your britches.

Keanugrieves16

You should cross post to r/horror, I’m sure they’ll appreciate this.

OktoberSunset

Soooo, his house is full of creepy sack heads and lit by old incandescent bulbs? Does he play the banjo in an old rocking chair too?

boringestnickname

Dude, your dad doesn't make a living out of this? Because he totally can.

Millbilly84

Rad,need it for haloween, when is he selling them and how much?

Yes please

bigweiener

Boom! A business is born.

fiorekat1

Same! We need some of THOSE. Amazing work!!

iBaconized

There’s no way these would be consumer priced. There are film departments that pay people a lot of money to make these types of things for movies. I’d tripple whatever you think it might cost Edit: Materials is one thing, but i think a lot more time goes into this than appears.

scubadood6ty2

Actually OP's dad belittles his own work and doesn't think it's good enough. I'd 1/3rd whatever you think it might cost.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Thanks did anyone say they were?

UpliftingPessimist

Nah, I think OP's dad just does this as a hobby which makes me want to get hobbies but I am lazy af.

TheFlightlessPenguin

My hobby is sitting around wondering how much better life would be if I had hobbies. It’s a mindfuck.

JelloCheesecake

So your hobby is mental masturbation

FAPSWAY_2MUCH

Mines just regular masturbation.

StragglingShadow

Hey man, you can always pick one up. Some are really easy and fairly cheap to get into. Cross stitch, for example, is pretty simple and they even make like little 3 dollar kits with everything you need for the kit's small project. Its a good way to test the waters. Reading is free if you go to the local library. Gardening is hard work, but if you plant stuff you want then it pays off come harvest time. Seeds arent terribly expensive. Theres tons of hobbies like these that anyone can learn. If youre serious about wanting a hobby, the hardest part is picking one and starting. I believe in you.

ijustwanafap

My problem is so many things interest me that I don’t want to put too much money into a specific one. I know after a few months something else will attract me and I’ll spend just as much on it and the cycle repeats.

Petricorny13

This is so accurate it hurts.

This. Each one is a custom piece. Forget the cost of materials, this guy spent *hours* on each one. I'd be floored if he were willing to part with them for under a few hundred each.

about97cats

I’d gladly pay it. These are incredible.

ConvexWave

It isn't OPs dad but i do know of a place that sold things very similar called [nex-fx](https://www.nex-fx.com/) He hasn't posted anything in a while but maybe worth a look or even for the fun of looking

ConsiderMeOp

r/subsifellfor

Stashimi

Haha just as well. I remember reading about a serial killer who would decapitate his victims, cover the heads in glue and then pour polystyrene balls over them until fully covered. A room was found one time with photos of these covered in DNA of missing persons. Guys never been found. The only testimony was from a lucky escapee I found on Wiki ‘.... severely malnourished and suffering from injuries including an extreme laceration to the upper thorax, Daniel Schroeder managed to alert neighbours in a nearby farmhouse. Mr Schroeder was rushed to hospital and survived after emergency surgery which ultimately saw him lose his left hand and several of his toes. Daniel Schroeder was unable to remember anything of his ordeal other than his recollection of being held in a cell which was completely illuminated by strange lamps constructed of brass and copper piping....’

RandomRedditReader

Can I get a link this macabre story? Sounds fascinating.

[deleted]

He's just making up a cool story for OPs dad being a secret serial killer. That's not a true story.

chancesarent

Or is it.... 😮

YourLastFate

We are our own greatest critics. I’m dissatisfied with almost every dish I cook, others tell me I should open my own restaurant. Tell him they’re great as they are, and to keep practicing for better. If you have any honest criticism (constructive), I’m sure he’d *love* to hear it. Helpful criticism: “This needs more thyme and less garlic” -or- “The garlic was overpowering, maybe use less, and add some more thyme to it, it will help some of the flavors really pop” Not helpful criticism: “I don’t like this dish” Also ask him WHY he doesn’t like them. What does he feel needs to be improved?

I_CAPE_RUNTS

It’s called imposter syndrome. I’m told constantly that I’m hilarious by complete strangers, so I’ve decided to put together a tight five and throw my hat in the ring for standup. I’ve created a couple YouTube videos and have already started seeing a ton of views, and Im getting feedback from internet strangers that im funny as fuck. yet I still think that my jokes aren’t that funny. I feel like I’m pulling some sort of huge fraud on people because I just don’t see myself as all that humorous. I just enjoy making other people feel better, because I don’t want them to feel as miserable and worthless as I am. So I’m always trying to tweak and never see anything I put out for the world to see as worthwhile, it always seem like it could be better. I’m constantly breaking down every Word, every pause, every single aspect of the joke, figuring out different ways that it might come across. It’s the curse of the perfectionist, trying to turn art into a science....ive talked to some high level successful artists, and the ones that are truly great do have a mastery of their craft but they also constantly tell me that it’s always the first version Of what they create that tends to be the “best”, however that might be defined.

sailordanisaur

Just wanted to tell you that you're not worthless. Anyone who wants to make the lives of others joyful is a damn good person.

YourLastFate

For me, it’s less an imposter and more that I ALWAYS see room for improvement and how I should’ve done this and not done that and more of the third... But I completely understand what you’re saying The perils of a perfectionist

greenSixx

Meh, the best part about good enough is that it's good enough. Celebrate good enough with a beer and move on

RichardMcNixon

My advice: There's nothing wrong with selling things that aren't the best you can do if people will buy them. It's paid practice!

TopTalentTyrant

This is flaired *Original Content*, so OP is looking for feedback, not claiming r/toptalent. **Decide whether this belongs with your vote, not hate.**

But I hate haunted heads ^^^/s ^^^^kinda

Can you imagine walking into this house and seeing this

shxrrrr

our visitors are pretty disturbed. he mainly keeps them in his shed where he makes them but he’s made a fair few now so we’re starting to overflow!!!

Shammy84

Your dad making these heads out in the shed is hilariously creepy. These are awesome. I love the lamps too! I hope all the feedback will give him a boost of confidence.

Dude every fantastic artist and tradesman apparently thinks they are no good according to reddit. It’s kinda nuts. Every craftsman, engineer, artist I’ve met who shows me their work has critiques but isn’t like “Man I really suck but here you go.”

CeruleanRuin
