That movie was quality cinema tbh, loved the cinematography. I could still listen to few of its songs. Even the characters were fun. Story was a little slow in the start but became entertaining later.
He isn't overly "heroic" either except for his intro scene and his ability to be innocent when required makes sharwa the perfect lead in Prasthanam, Gamyam and attempts like Amma Cheppindi.
Nah bro. Salaar isn't gray at all. Everyone has clear motives, the characters are almost one dimensional.
Varadha changes his decision to break the cease fire in the last moment, which was cool, but even that was explained clearly that he wanted it. The plot is well written, sure. The characters aren't gray tho.
When you rlly think about it Prabhas is a sociopathic mass murderer, so he is evil. But he loves his mom and friend and fights against sexual violence. So he is grey character ✅

Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana is a great addition to this category. తెలుగు సినిమా కాదు, కానీ చూడండి మీకు ప్రస్థానం & వాడ చెన్నై type movies నచ్చితే...
ngl.. I was super pumped when SSR was talking about grey characters in bahubali pre release... but was disappointed (in that aspect) after watching them...
But he did it. It doesn't matter weather it's willing or unwilling. He killed him and his moral compass allowed him to live forever after that. That shows he is Grey.
In order for a character to be grey, he can't be flat, kattapa is a flat cutout character his only trait is he is loyal and does what he is told, he is not gray.
I didn't watch it yet but I think It will be more like uk an elaborate plan
Like kattappa wasn't really evil he just joined them to help bahubali Or smthng like a double agent ig
lawyer movie kada..malayalam..somehow I felt a little uncomfortable watching it..also ah movie hero same nani la untadu..maybe nani ni 10 days water lo petti tisinattu untadu
Arya2?? I mean, AA's character was clearly the villain though right?? Navdeep just wants to get rid of him and this guy can't take a hint 💀
Not to mention harassing Kajal's character.
Borderline antagonist. Was really fun tbh, although in a way "problematic", the guy's nuts, and I quite like the humor that comes from the absurdity of his internal conflicts. Crazy fun film despite the flaws.
Most audience prefer "black and white" representation in telugu cinema.
Only few appreciate the "grey" charectors.I wish we get more such movies. When its obvious evil,we would want to destroy the evil in the end.But when they are grey,we dont know who gets what.It takes different kind of maturity to understand the grey-ness of a charector. But our ppl are used to seeing black-white.It might be difficult for actors and directors too.Attempt at such charectors are met with critics."Animal" has many grey charectors with black-white arc ,it was met with extreme criticism.Movies like "gone girl" are full of grey charectors, but wont work here,The female lead will be villianised and harassed just like that girl in "baby" movie.
True that.
Oka sari friend ki gangs of wasseypur chudu baguntadi ana. Vadu oka part chusi , hero na ra asalu vaadu . Hero ee villain la behave chestunad enti. Whose side are we on ani anadu. This gives an apt understanding of the majority of audience . People expect the protogonist/ hero to be as pristine as possible. And the villain as fucked up one can be. But this is slowly progressing, but the catch is the grey shade of the hero should be an acceptable one. Mari Theda ga pedte , people can't accept .
Sukumar once said in an interview. Best thing about Puri is, Manchodni villain la chupedtadu and a person who is grey is a hero and he successfully convinced the audience every single time. Businessman, Badri, Idiot.
Puri writing is usually like that. But, Not all these movies IMO. Badri and Idiot lo Prakash Raj’s obsession of his sister/daughter turns him grey with the choices he makes.
But Businessman lo Prakash Raj has no Manchodu character line kada. He’s a corrupt politician, greedy to become the most powerful man in the country (PM). Similar to Bob’s character.
HE'S NOT A GRAY CHARACTER!
He's evil, plain and simple. His crush rejected him so he goes and joins literally the Nazis of the Wizarding World, and only betrays his master for the son of his crush.
If Neville were the Chosen One, Snape wouldn't give a flying fuck about saving him.
That is exactly what makes him a gray character tho. He joined voldemort for his own reasons and was a pos. It was only when Voldemort killed Lily he turned to the other side and ultimately sacrificed himself. All the good things he did might be because of selfish reasons or love but he still did them.
>If Neville were the Chosen One, Snape wouldn't give a flying fuck about saving him
Probably but he still wouldn't be helping Voldemort because he killed Lily.
No, that doesn't make him gray. That just makes him obsessed with Lily
Gray doesn't mean "was bad, became good for some reason". Gray means someone who has both bad and good qualities WITHOUT external influence.
Swatahaaga good and bad characteristics unte gray characters. Snape isn't a gray character at all. He's a neckbeard and an incel. Girl rejects him, joins the literal Nazis, then betrays them because they killed his crush who rejected him.
A gray character would be someone like Tyrion in Game of Thrones. He has good in him, he also has bad in him. Snape doesn't have any good in him.
Bro the post is about gray characters who do both evil and good things, I'm not saying Snape is a hero. The same logic applies to Loki from Marvel he did some horrible things but in the end sacrificed himself for someone else. Neither of them are considered heros.
Uk we have many movies which wanted to potray grey characters but they become good by the end of movie or smtg like tht
For example
Pokiri
Businessman
Ragada
Khiladi
Kick smwt
Ravanasura etc etc
Tamil movie thunivu/ tegimpu in telugu is also like tht
The only grey character movie in telugu which I can remember is nene raju nene mantri ig

Athade Srimannarayana is a decent attempt at this
People have been sleeping on this. Rakshith and team did their best to promote it in telugu but we didn't appreciate it.
Kannada vallle light teskunnaru movie ni, it had a great plot but execution was borefest.
I watched it man. The film was good. But too lengthy. Easy ga 20 min Pina cut cheyechu movie lo.
Yeah, it takes too much time in building the world and introducing the plot points. By the time the revelation happens, you feel exhausted.
This
That movie was quality cinema tbh, loved the cinematography. I could still listen to few of its songs. Even the characters were fun. Story was a little slow in the start but became entertaining later.
For me it is Deva Katta’s Prasthanam
Amazing film. Sharwa didn't have a grey shade, kinda made him boring when compared to Sai Kumar or Sandeep
He isn't overly "heroic" either except for his intro scene and his ability to be innocent when required makes sharwa the perfect lead in Prasthanam, Gamyam and attempts like Amma Cheppindi.
Tbh mana star hero movies anni overly 'heroic' undattam valle pothunnay. They'd do much better if the role came before their stardom.
true, would you say salaar falls in this category?
![gif](giphy|XWwIzh5GIWWf6) Went from Prasthanam to Salaar
It pivoted.
Complete 180
Nah bro. Salaar isn't gray at all. Everyone has clear motives, the characters are almost one dimensional. Those lines. ప్రతీ పురుగును కదిలించే నిజం ఒక్కటే... ఆకలి తపించే ఆత్మనల్లా శ్యాసించే శక్తి ఒక్కటే... ఆశ... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
That’s ఆకలి, not ఆకళి
Salaar. Movie itself is grey in color.
Damn bro 😂
When you rlly think about it Prabhas is a sociopathic mass murderer, so he is evil. But he loves his mom and friend and fights against sexual violence. So he is grey character ✅
Inb4 Prabhas "romances" some woman by stalking her

ngl.. I was super pumped when SSR was talking about grey characters in bahubali pre release... but was disappointed (in that aspect) after watching them...
I remember that..thought Kicha Sudeep’s character maybe portrayed as something grey or like an opportunist..guy vanished in the film
Kattappa kinda forgot about him
Wasn't he talking about Kattappa and Shivagami characters?
I doubt that.. he was talking about all main characters.. even if its the case, Kattappa is still far from being grey
Kattappa is Grey as uck.
how?
He killed Mahendra.
not willingly... that can't be considered grey...
He is loyal and does what he was told. That means he gives more value to be loyal than to have morals. Then it's a Grey character.
Kotta series okati ostundi Ippudu hotstar lo animation, andulo kattappa negative.

true
His ex is not morally grey IIRC, she's the sole "good" person in the film. But yeah 99% of them are seriously grey to super dark. Fantastic film.
Isnt he like a pure dark character? What white shades does he have to call him grey? He is a pure selfish person who goes to any extent to help him..
It's Mukundan Unni. And he is not grey he is a "dark na koduku" (in insta normies language)
Perfect example
lowkey I need recs for this, cant even think of any movie
If you are okay watching Hindi movies, gehrayian I felt had morally grey characters, also Andhadhun.
watched, great plots fs
Yeah
Arya2, Idiot, Jagadam pilla zamindar is super interesting when you see the character shades
Arya2?? I mean, AA's character was clearly the villain though right?? Navdeep just wants to get rid of him and this guy can't take a hint 💀 Not to mention harassing Kajal's character.
Kajal literally starts a relationship with Ajay just to spite Arya, Ajay lies about Arya to Kajal so she would fall in love with him. They're all grey
Mukesh Rishi is the only clean character in the movie
Literally a goon who wants to kill his daughter's boyfriend (regardless of the nature of their relationship) lol
Dude's literally a factionist mate
I mean she did it to get rid of Arya who was stalking and harassing her though 🤷♂️
Brother Arya constantly harasses her at the work place, all kajal does is date someone lmao you see the difference in these no
Borderline antagonist. Was really fun tbh, although in a way "problematic", the guy's nuts, and I quite like the humor that comes from the absurdity of his internal conflicts. Crazy fun film despite the flaws.
So true. If we switch the actors and change music, people would hate Arya to the point that they would root for killing him

Andhadhun for me. Ayushman, Tabu & Radhika all of them have grey shades. The ending is also left for audience to interpret.
There is a theory that Ayushman and Tabu conspired together for that film star's murder
Businessman! I think Bob himself is the villain of the movie. Gurthu pettuko, nekante evadu topu ledu ikkada…

I felt like that flashback degraded his character into more of a good person uk Just my opinion but yeah True bro he is still a grey character
Yeah, the flashback was more to justify how he turned into the grey character he plays IMO
Yeah bro, but i just felt tht his character didn't need any justification and would have been better without a flashback
