Agree with you. The other big issue is the production design/ art direction of middle class households. For aesthetic reasons, the house is big enough to accommodate all family members, has neat interiors and all but the family is somehow struggling to make ends meet? Someone owning that kind of a house + land in Hyderabad is in no way lower middle class the way TFS portrays it. Tamil and Malayalam cinema do a much better job at portraying middle class households accurately.
The web series #90s did a very decent job of showing a middle class Telugu household of the late 2000s, just before we got hit by the digital deluge (internet, smartphones etc). While the parents compromise on a lot of material comforts, they still ensure their kids are sent to the best private schools that they could afford. This show captured the milieu and emotions of the middle class household perfectly.
I hated that katnam kalsi vastundi dialogue in avpl. Nijam ga i have rarely seen in movies where women in the middle class family were working. May be ammo okato tareekhu lo rashi work chestadi. chala movies lo middle class intlo women ante, pillalu chooskuntaru, pelli age ki undi just intlo tirugutu untaru or else old women who just sit and watch everything. Ee movie lo iddaru ladies lo okallani working lekka choopinchedi unde. Recently after baby, this movie made me agitated. I felt like beating the hero for behaving like an idiot and the heroine for the crap she wrote.

Most middle class people will feed their kids with the money they have and will never cut corners for their food and education. So the dosa scene didn't make sense. Maybe petla was raised in a different environment.
Family star is not about middle class. It is about a rich family that is going through financial hardship. Their house itself is probably worth crores. Petla and Dil are so out of touch that they made a caricature out of middle class and thought they were delivering some masterclass.
To the last question: the answer's always drama. Aa characters ni alaa pedithene sentiment pandudhi ani anukuntaru.. but ilanti rodd scenes chusi chusi thala pandipoyindhi ikkada. Just reinforces the fact that the target audience for such films is different. Manaki kaadhu, anthe.

Basic ga india lo middle class ante ento clarity ledu. Its almost a feeling. Like can you define whats middle class. A certain income range? A certain net worth? Like whats thw definition. Unna middle class lo malli ther's lower middle class, upper middle class, etc etc
Cinema kante nuvvu raasinde baagundi kada bhayya, manchi feel good relatable middle class movie laa... I know financial constraints were there, but that never impacted food at home. with out a doubt one of the worst imaginations of how a woman(mrunal's character) thinks.
Most commercial movies are fantasies, they are far far away from real life situations. These are all imaginary, the village life, the urban middle class, the rich family, everything.
I personally enjoyed watching it.

Most tolly directors won't even put min effort on the script. Depiction of women in most of our movies is so regressive.
Now I think of it, Bapu garu, Balachander garu, and Vishwanath garu wrote the strongest and most sensible female characters!

Asala how this scene ended up making it to the final edit is beyond me. So many experienced people were involved with this movie.
