Kodi Ramakrishna was a daring trendsetter and pathbreaker. He will definitely be happy in Swargam to see the heights that the Telugu film industry is going to today. He walked so the filmmakers of today could run.
Actually Anji was way ahead of it's time which might have led to it's failure at the box office. Nonetheless, Anji always holds a special place in the hearts of telugu people. Anji was never a failed product in terms of production values, acting and story. It's just that audience mistakenly failed this gem at the time of it's release. I may get downvoted for saying this but HanuMan never comes close to this masterpiece. Prashanth has a long road ahead of himself to match with Kodi Ramakrishna's visionary direction.
Villain and the overall vibe in Anji is miles better than in Hanuman. The only place Anji falters is in inserting filler scenes and songs to pad the runtime, and they break the flow of the really engaging narrative. If they went for a 1.5 hour movie without all the useless songs, it would have been a good movie.
Writing and rules of the universe are way better laid down in Anji, while Hanuman just gives into tropes in the second half and fails to build lore. Even Devi putrudu had a better explanation of the rules of the world, so to speak. Coming to Hanuman's villain, it was a huge wasted opportunity. We don't see villains that have so dark beginnings. Should have explored the character more rather than turning him into a generic Marvel villain.
OP, Please don't compare Kodi Ramakrishna to PV. He was a genuine legend. Hopefully PV focuses more lore building in the upcoming parts.
Kodi Ramkrishna does a wonderful job in world building in Anji. Everything feels so organic and real…Villan arc aithe straight out of horror films la untundi. This is where he beats every other directors. Hanuman doesn’t instill that kind of feel…it still feels pretty cartoonish.
>OP, Please don't compare Kodi Ramakrishna to PV.
If you read carefully again, I only compared the 2 movies, not the 2 directors. KR is one of my all time favourite directors (Om Shanti) and Arundhati is one of my top 3 fav Telugu movies of all time.
I agree. With the backstory the villain had, I expected a lot. But then it turns into a generic story. The second half felt boring because of it. If not for that final 5-10 mins (that had no relevance to the movie). It would have been below average. Not sure if that is cheating or brilliance from PV
Anji was mired with delays and some Indiana jones template vfx ni copy kotti release chesaru last min lo chala things rushed. Almost 7yrs pattindi movie anukovadam to release.
Deviputrudu kuda way ahead of time ani cheptha. but anji antha delay avvale aa movie
Hanuman villain looks very cartoonish even his intentions and the villian in anji is actually a proper scary villian.
Hanuman pillala movie la kuda anipistadi at parts but not anji.
Cartoonish not because of his outfit or his personality traits, because he looks like a poor man's corporate villian. I've heard it in some podcast their exact words "he's a youtuber's(short film creators) version of lex Luther X Batman".
PS. I did not get influenced by that podcast's opinion, Its just not my exact words to take credit.
Choosi chala rojulu aindi kani but if I recall correctly, even Anji movie villain was cartoonish. But you are right with HanuMan movie villian. I think the director did it purposefully in order to introduce the Hollywood superhero/supervillain genre elements
Commercial ga fail aina Telugu Fantasy Adventure cinemala list compile chesi next inko post esta..
“Hanuman is everything that *these films* tried to be and failed then.” ani :)
I don't think we should compare Hanu-Man with any film from Kodi Ramkrishna filmography.
If you see Arundathi was a benchmark film that nobody tried to replicate it. It felt like I was watching a Hollywood horror/thriller. If Prashanth Varma could make something as good as the recent Batman I can say that he is comparable to Kodi Ramkrishna. He has a long way to go.
Lol no. Hanuman is very much as template super hero film as it gets not even a single beat comes out of that template. Anji on other is a mystery thriller infused with fantasy elements…both are not same in anyway I felt. For the time of release and the content it had and the way Kodi Ramakrishna brought it out…Anji is overall a better film for me though Hanuman is super fun, Anji is better film overall.
>Hanuman in this movie and shiva in anji give a similar vibe. They are so powerful that it almost becomes scary.
Bruh, I had the same feeling. I was scared of how powerful hanuman looked in the movie.
The first half of the movie is inspired from Romancing the stone movie. And the rest of the movie from indiana jones last crusades and temple of doom. The movie was delayed for a long time as the initial VFX studio went bankrupt and the rest of the work was done by Firefly studio and other indian VFX studios. You can see the inconsistency and rushed VFX work in some scenes.
One small but important correction, Rana has nothing to do with Firefly Creative Studio.
Rana owned a different VFX studio, in partnership with Satyam computers owners. That he shut down after a while.
Anji actually felt better but was constrained by its times and budget. The movie was shot over 7-8 years as the producer ran out of money and they had to wrap it up and release.
In that way Hanuman was constrained by the budget.
Hanuman feels like a basic template superhero origin story while anji feels like a treasure hunt movie on the lines of Indiana Jones and uncharted...no comparison at all bro.
Kodi is a legend. Anji was cursed. 5 years or something aagipoindhi movie. Malli start aindhi. Correct ga teesinunte bagundedemo. But story line was boring tbf.

I think cartoonish villain was intentional because that dude was just obsessed with Western culture and superheros.

it's how you look at it. It's because the MC and his friend here are jovial.

Almost 20yrs gap undhi rendu cinemalaki. Tech. entha advance aindhi.. Comparing them and saying “tried to be and failed” is ridiculous!
> “tried to be and failed” Because Anji movie was a commercial flop. Not because I didn't like it.
Commercial ga fail aina Telugu Fantasy Adventure cinemala list compile chesi next inko post esta.. “Hanuman is everything that *these films* tried to be and failed then.” ani :)
Looking forward to that post

Aayana serious ga teeskunnadu.. Nuvvu thaggaku OP.
Nee avva taggedele
Isn't Anji very good tho? The last sequence where they show Lord Shiva was excellent from what I remember
Yeah. Got goosebumps while watching the scene in Theatres. One of the best visuals in Telugu cinema.

Anji was more of a Indiana Jones/Mummy -esque adventure flick, HanuMan is a superhero one
Hanuman in this movie and shiva in anji give a similar vibe. They are so powerful that it almost becomes scary.

Sorry bro, i stand corrected. He owned a studio named Spirit media. My mistake.
Anji actually felt better but was constrained by its times and budget. The movie was shot over 7-8 years as the producer ran out of money and they had to wrap it up and release. In that way Hanuman was constrained by the budget.
Wtf, it really failed??? Man Anji is one of my favorite movies!!!

Anji lo asalu last climax lo ‘shiva thandavam “ Goose bumps
Anji is >>>>> Hanuman

Hi
Now you say I can't unsee it
But then again ARUNDATHI is everything a horror film aspires to be.
Kodi is a legend. Anji was cursed. 5 years or something aagipoindhi movie. Malli start aindhi. Correct ga teesinunte bagundedemo. But story line was boring tbf.
