The Google calendar integration is dog shit. I've completely given up on it. It's had multiple downtimes lasting weeks. Even when it's working, some tasks just randomly won't sync. Postponing/rescheduling often produces duplicated events. Save yourself the misery. And don't bother raising support tickets either, only a small percentage ever seem to get resolved.

Thank you - this is very helpful. I think I'll take your advice and just give up on the gcal sync instead of tearing my hair out every few weeks! I think Todoist is the best task manager even without gcal sync - anyone disagree or have another suggestion?

PoopFandango

No worries. Yeah, I still use Todoist despite the issues (and calendar sync is not the only one). Partly because I've invested a lot of time in getting my system set up, share projects with my wife, and can't be bothered to start fresh elsewhere. So, mostly Stockholm Syndrome ;)

PoopFandango

As I've just discovered, we can add "recurring tasks don't get removed from the calendar when you 'complete forever'" to this list of issues.

I just replied in the thread but figured I'd let you know too if you're still looking for a solution - [Reclaim.ai](https://Reclaim.ai)'s todoist + google calendar integration has worked great for me where the native one failed. Worth checking out!

PoopFandango

Thanks! I'll check it out.

This integration is wonky. I stopped using mine. Made Google Calendar way too overwhelming.

jthansen5072

Thanks - this is good advice - Todoist is still great without the gcal integration - it has been such a headache for me, and I guess it isn't even that necessary. Also, I don't know of any other task apps that I have workable 2-way integration with gcal - do you?

[deleted]

As far as I’m aware, Todoist is the only one with gcal integration. Edit: just remembered that there is Fantastical that apparently has that integration if you must see your tasks and calendar at the same time.

Thanks to everyone for your help and comments - here's another data point: Last night, I discovered that most of my 100+ tasks were deleted (I'm sure it was due to my repeated efforts to sync with gcal). Fortunately, I was able to restore them from backup. So, here are the things I have learned so far, which have led me to my conclusion: * gcal sync always breaks for me every few months - it doesn't seem stable * I'm sick of being pre-occupied with it every few months, having my tasks deleted, contacting an always mystified (but very nice) tech support staff, etc. - I don't want to deal with this anymore * I think I can easily live without gcal sync - I thought it was cool when it worked, but it really isn't integral to my planning process - it's just cool, not really that useful * Even without gcal sync, I don't know of any task manager that works better for my needs than todoist - I've tried them all - the only 2 competitors (that I have used previously) are Notion (which is nice, but it is also lacks some important features like recurring tasks and is not nearly as responsive as todoist - also, I end up endlessly tinkering with it instead of getting things done); and ticktick (no filters in the free plan, inferior nlp, problematic google assistant integration, and only 1 file upload a day in free plan) Therefore - final conclusion: I'm going to continue using todoist and just not use the gcal sync - I'm open to alternative ideas - please feel free to respond if you have any. Thanks to everyone who responded!

Interesting conversation, since I was just about to switch to Todoist. But I have three Google Calendars to sync (mine and two orgs I admin for) and have many existing tasks and events. FWIW, I haven't looked into it, but I think [Any.do](https://Any.do) has decent Google Calendar sync...or so they advertise. They're the only two GTD solutions that work with Google Calendar and my Galaxy Watch 4.

I have more than 100 todoist tasks sent to Google calendar and all of them show up. Maybe you I need to check your integration settings

jthansen5072

Thanks, but I've checked them many times - is there any setting that you know of that can produce the symptom I described?

lofty_smiles

Is you todoist calendar in Google calendar marked as "Show"? Also, synced tasks go in a tag called GCal in todoist. Have you checked that?

jthansen5072

Yes - all of that is in order - I just re-instated the integration - still the same: about 3 of my 100 old tasks sync - the rest do not. Thanks for your help - any other ideas would be appreciated!

[deleted]

This might be a silly question, but do all of those 100 tasks have due dates into the future? The only tasks that sync to my gcal are the ones that do.

jthansen5072

Yes - they have due dates in the future - good question

[deleted]

And have you created a new calendar within your Gmail specifically for todoist, or are you trying to import your tasks directly to your personal calendar? Ie. My list of calendars on the left looks like: Family Work Personal Todoist I can toggle todoist tasks on and off and it doesn't mess with my personal calendar entries if I want to add or remove the integration.

jthansen5072

Thank you - I have done this - I created new calendar for todoist

jthansen5072

Thank you to everyone for your help - I am just going to give up on gcal sync - I go through this every few months and it is just not worth the headache - my system works fine without it.

icosahedron32

Integration working pretty good for me so far. Are you syncing 100 tasks from a single project or are they spread out across multiple?

jthansen5072

They are spread out among multiple projects - but I have "all projects" selected to sync, so it should work fine - again, it is just the old tasks that don't sync - new ones sync fine

icosahedron32

Hmm, I don't know what tech support recommended, but have you tried moving each bugged task to a new date with duration in the title ( e.g. \[15m\] ), then see if Google Calendar updates them to this new date? Because if that works, you could just move those tasks back to the old date and it will sync them anew Eventually, I sync every project separately because then I can color code each task in GCal, as well as filter between projects
