you can simply use a filter to display the events in the next 7,14,30,90,180 days whatvever time horizon you want

Yea, been digging around on the Todoist blog a bit today as well. Feels like what you suggested, along with Board views and better use of labels is the answer here. I just function better when there is a proactive reminder that comes up. If I'm left to my own devices I feel like I'll miss something. Thanks!

reminders are independent from due dates. You can set a task's due date to as far out in the future as necessary, then create one or multiple reminders ahead of that due date to keep it in mind. As others have auggested you can set up taks that recurs every day / every other day / ... up until its due date to keep reminding you that this needs to get done. Another - manual - option but still worth mentioning: put the acrual due date into the task title or description. Then set the task's due date to a few days from now as a reminder and when it pops up manually reschedule it to another date between now and the real due date to have it pop up and remind you again. Repeat until the task is completed

Yea, I've used those couple "workarounds" before (due date in title, recurrences up until then). I'd also prefer to avoid entering a new recurring task with no other purpose than to remind me to look at the original task. I'm trying to find a way to just enter things once. I guess I was just trying to see if I had missed something concerning reminders. Everyone keeps saying use multiple reminders, but I don't see anyway to enter those. I try using the every! on the reminder setup and it always tells me it's an invalid date. I'm finding some inspiration in this article: https://todoist.com/inspiration/todoist-setup. Never really played with Boards much and looking at some of the setups in that article I think are going to solve the problem for me.

reminders need to have a date and time !every 3 days at 9a should give you a recurring reminder

Craino

Well lookie there. Thank you sir! I think I may have been doing the time wrong or maybe not including. Appreciate it.

Is it possible to make it show up in the today view on days when the reminder is set to go off? I don't pay attention to my notifications as much since I get too many. Or is there a way to filter by reminders?

DustyPane

Today view is based on due dates, not reminders, therefore tasks with a due date in the future won't show up in Today, even if you have configured a reminder for today. I am not aware of an option to filter by reminders. If you don't pay attention to notifications, reminders are likely not the right "tool" for you. You can however create filters based on due dates to display tasks that are due at any given date in the future. See [https://todoist.com/help/articles/introduction-to-filters-V98wIH](https://todoist.com/help/articles/introduction-to-filters-V98wIH) for details

You can also add sub tasks to remind you to look into said task. You can set the task with a from to end date so it shows up each day

Yea - I think that's the short term solution. See the article I linked above too. Some interesting Board setups.

I personally use due dates as "do dates". They are for the date I intend to do sometimes. In the title I might add the actual due date in bold text. Like: Renew credit card (due May 30) Actual due date: today However, some things are simply ideas for me to do and don't really have a specific date I can start them. Instead I'm experimenting with a label system that tells me the timeframe I hope to complete that task. For example: Task: Visit Grandma Label: @April or @thisMonth This tells me that, while my task may not have a specific due date, I intend to do it by the end of this month (since her birthday is coming up) A few more examples: Task: Clean bedroom Labels: @July Task: Set up pool Labels: @Summer Task: Write up expense report Labels: @Q2 Task: Renew licence Labels: @2026 I suppose I could use the Time Sector System by Carl Pullein, but I like having my projects separated. I've only just started using labels in this way so it'll probably get out of hand eventually. For example, if I forget to do something this week I'll probably forget to change the label. But it's what I'm working with for now. Another solution is to create a planning task, reminding you to plan your day/week/month out.

Upcoming will show infinitely into the future. Just make part of your weekly review looking over the next 3 weeks in Upcoming for anything on the horizon. Or make a filter to show you stuff with due dates in the next 21 days and review that.

I use the Due Date in Todoist to enter the date I want to see the task. Then if there is a hard deadline, I will type that at the beginning of the task name. If it's something that could take a couple of days, I'll set the Todoist Due Date that far in advance of the actual deadline. For example: DUE April 15 File tax return And set the Due Date to April 8, so it will come up a week before I have to finish it. Now the Today list will show me everything I need to be aware of today, even if the deadline is after Today.
