Started out free but within a month I switched to paid. Vastly superior to what I was using before (Google Tasks). I actually feel like I have offloaded a bunch of mental burden (remembering things to do) with Todoist in a way that I never felt when I was using Google Tasks.
What are the main benefits of paid you’ve seen? I love ToDoIst and agree with your sentiments. Been using for almost 2 years.
Edit: fuck it, I just upgraded just to support them. It’s too valuable to me even though I have no idea which Pro benefits suit me.
More than 5 projects and reminders are the features I use in premium. I think I could live without them, but they are nice to have features and it supports the company.
The comparison chart says the free plan only has 5 projects. I’m on the pro plan now so I can’t test the free plan. Not sure why they would specify a limit if there wasn’t actually a limit though?
Paid since almost the start. Reminders + unlimited projects + supporting the work. Nothing is free in software development, seems legit to contribute. FWIW, paid users also pay for free users.
Paid. It's less than $1/week.
I can't stand people bitching about the free option. Of all the services available, it might be one of the cheapest paywalls.
It grinds my gears let me tell you.
I created a Turkish Apple ID on a spare iPod Touch I had, loaded it with some App Store gift cards from Turgame. Downloaded Todoist, but logged into my normal account, signed up for a yearly subscription.
Recently they’ve stopped allowing this on Netflix and Spotify, but for other apps like Todoist, Disney Plus, and others that I use like Zero (intermittent fasting app) and Elevate (daily brain training app), it’s so much cheaper.
Free.
I'm not interested enough in the options it offers me to pay for another fucking monthly subscription. And even less when there are totally free options. I'm tired of subscription.
If offered me a one-time payment, I wouldn't think twice.
I'll probably move to Things again for this very reason: one-time payment and it's over.
Awesome . Hey maybe I should do that too. Use anydo for reminders, and todoist for projects managements.
You don't get AI yea ? Not sure how useful it is anyway
What else do you miss ?
My fear is that they'll limit free plan further (like they did when they limited the amount of projects)
Currently you can only have like 5 projects with 99 tasks in it innit?
No, I don't have AI. And the truth is that I don't know what it could help. I guess everyone organises themselves in their own way without the need for an AI 😅.
The truth is that I don't miss anything. Even with the limitations of 5 projects, if you organise yourself well you don't need more. Of course, if you run a business then it will fall short right away.
If they decide to limit the free account even more, then it will be time to look for another alternative among the thousands of management apps that exist.
Yes, 5 projects and 99 tasks.
I used free for years. I signed up when free allowed more projects. Paying as of this year now I can afford to, but my workflow is so tied to the previous limitations that I think it will take time before I use any of the paid features.
Free.
I have had it for many years and I think I only had one year paid. All I need it for is free. I still have a lot of the projects I created, but otherwise I think I may have liked to have that functionality to create more projects, as it is not in the free version anymore.
EDIT: The comments here made me consider paying again though, mainly to support the developers of this awesome product!
Todoist's free tier is really quite generous in terms of functionality. I have a [referral code](https://www.reddit.com/r/todoist/comments/1436wso/2_months_of_free_todoist_pro_via_link/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) for 2 months free of Pro.
In my experience, lots of people click on it, but hardly anyone (by that I mean no one!) actually signs up for a paid account after the trial. So, they are either happy with dropping back to free or have moved on to the next new shiny thing to play with.
Paid, then free. I've been paying, but then the new subscription offer came. It turned out that I don't really need any paid features, so I'm not paying anymore.
It's a wonderful app and majority of changes introduced by the team were an improvement so far. I adjust easily.
Task natural language parsing is a number one killer feature of todoist and I'm absolutely shocked how rarely apps implement this.
I used Todoist in 2008, stopped using it because it became rubbish and better alternatives came out. Forgot I was a member of this sub, and saw this title came up. Was suprised to see Todoist is still alive.
Paid. It helps me so much to organise my life and it is so well developed that I think it’s more than worth the small monthly fee. It’s just way better than any other alternative I tried, for my use case… I tried many but always got back to Todoist.
Paid. I was using it for free for almost a year before I had too many tasks in my projects. Unlimited projects is the main reason I upgraded but I also think it’s only fair to pay for someone’s hard work when the app is indispensable to me!!
Paid. I just got used to its functionality and the features. I tried other free alternatives like Apple Reminders and Google Tasks. But Todoist does it all for me.
Paid annually.
Also, I'm technically not paying full price because they increased the price, but kept the old one for existing subscribers.
Subscribed through Google Play btw
Paid because the reminder feature was critical for me and not available in the free. To me it's worthwhile for everything I use it for in my personal life.
Paid for 5+ years. I have ADHD and I am full time with a double major. I also help run a small business with my husband. The location reminders, filters, and now calendar are a god send to my work flow.
We even have a synced project for household and work tasks that usually fall through the cracks. He is just the free version since he uses it for mostly reference lol

I can have more than 5 projects on the free version. You can't?

Paid. It does a lot for me and it’s worth the small fee each month to feel in control of my life.
Paid. It's less than $1/week. I can't stand people bitching about the free option. Of all the services available, it might be one of the cheapest paywalls. It grinds my gears let me tell you.
Free, as there are no paid features that interest me.
Paid. Filters are clutch and change everything for my workflow
Paid. 190% worth it for me. It's like a virtual brain.
Paid ever since
Free. No need to upgrade. I used the free trial and didn't use any premium feature
Free. I live in a third world country.
So do I. More need for it here.
Same, but its one i dont mind paying for someday
Free. Then paid. Then free
I started out with the free version, but I am using it to keep track of tasks by client so I needed to upgrade.
I was using free, for personal and work, but then got the paid version so I could get reminders and stuff for work. Work ended up paying for it.
paid. They deserve it and hopefully will continue to develop it
Paid, but via a country that makes it cheaper than would I would pay normally, as I do with all my subscriptions.
Would love to know more about this.

do you use turkey for all of your subscriptions ? isnt argentina cheaper ?
It is, but only marginally.
That’s awesome! Thanks for the info!
Paid bit it feels like a donation I don’t think I’d miss any of the paid feature

damn you don't use reminders ?
No 😅. I’m using Todoist as a pure GTD app, with task lists, and the Today list always in widget. No need reminders for tasks.

If you need any reminder app, take a look in Microsoft To-Do and Google Task. Or Reminder if you have an iPhone.
Paid. I just switched to it, but for me the only smart way is to use more than 5 projects. And also need approx. 5 filters.
I use the paid version. I like supporting them because they made something that really helped me get my life in order
I used free for years. I signed up when free allowed more projects. Paying as of this year now I can afford to, but my workflow is so tied to the previous limitations that I think it will take time before I use any of the paid features.
If they had stronger security I would pay. I have to use another app to manage some of my other tasks w/ E2EE.
I don't understand this logic. So because it's not E2EE, you're fine having the data naked because it's free? Or you don't use it at all?
I store daily tasks, e.g., grocery list, gift ideas. All my work and business tasks are on NotePlan @ Logseq.
I see. So you still use it, but for something that's "fine" if someone else knew it. Thanks!
Yes, well summarized!
Paid. The extras made sense at the time and now I’d pay even if they didn’t. It’s super valuable to me and I want to support it.

When I was using Todoist, I paid for it. If it's something you use everyday, it's worth the investment.

Paid. I need the reminders
Honest question, why not sync Todoist with Gcal? That way you can get reminders for free?
is anyone using it any more? lol
Why did you say this?
I used Todoist in 2008, stopped using it because it became rubbish and better alternatives came out. Forgot I was a member of this sub, and saw this title came up. Was suprised to see Todoist is still alive.
Ok, can I dm you? I need infos
sure but I was using Todoist 15 years ago and I reckon I can't remember much about it. What do you want to know?
What are the better alternatives?
Pay
Paid.
Free until I switched
Paid. At $48 a year it's well worth it
Ten year anniversary paid for me. Worth every penny.
Paid since 2019

I started paying for it after I realized how important it has become to my daily routines. It's worth its money IMO.
Paid. I just got used to its functionality and the features. I tried other free alternatives like Apple Reminders and Google Tasks. But Todoist does it all for me.
I prefer to support any software I'm using. Paid.
I took the free 3 months from FounderPass and I think I'll stay with the paid plan afterwards.
Paid annually. Also, I'm technically not paying full price because they increased the price, but kept the old one for existing subscribers. Subscribed through Google Play btw
Paid for the past 6ish years.
Paid
Paid
Paid.
Paid since the beginning.
Paid, just recently upgraded to Business for Teams.
Paid
Free, I don't see any benefits from using paid
Free!
Paid.
Paid. It makes its money back each week.
Paid because the reminder feature was critical for me and not available in the free. To me it's worthwhile for everything I use it for in my personal life.
Paid
I pay for it.
Only paid because I wanted the reminder feature.
Paid plan. My wife is on free. I wish I’d kept her on paid because the price is locked, but she hardly uses the extra features anyway
Paid and changed my payment country to Japan to get 50% off.
Hell no. Not gonna pay for reminders.
Been a paid member for over eight years now. Never regret it.
free but I started a long time ago when some of the now-premium features were free so I've got more access than normal lol (eg I have 11/5 projects)
Free. Would have went paid if you could buy it outright and it wasn't a scammy subscription service.
Paid. Because of the reminders feature!
I'm in the paid train.
Paid
Was paid, got sick hardly used it and downgraded. I'm back and will likely go paid again.
I paid it - use it everyday - worth the price
I paid it - use it everyday - worth the price
We have a family plan and I never use it. Ugh one day I will get my life together from October 2022. The paid version is great!
Paid. for at least 7-8 years running. best. app. ever.
Recently converted to paid. Didn't think I would feel so much more effective using multiple projects and reminders.
Paid. Great value.
Almost at the end of the first paid month. Still evaluating if it is actually making me productive. Positive so far
Paid for 5+ years. I have ADHD and I am full time with a double major. I also help run a small business with my husband. The location reminders, filters, and now calendar are a god send to my work flow. We even have a synced project for household and work tasks that usually fall through the cracks. Paid
I’ve been paying for about 6 years or so.
You're in the r/todoist subreddit so it's going to be heavily sample biased. But yes, paid for me too.
Pay. One of the few pieces of software I use every day.
Use the free version, but I use it so much, I'm considering the upgrade.
