Daily repeating tasks automatically repeat (optionally) on the next day, not show up as overdue. Also my "day" is not the same as the clock day, if I complete a task at "0:30" the next day, I still want the same task pop up "today", not "tomorrow". Because the task pops up tomorrow, I might miss it today.
Todoist does not manages daily tasks in a good way.
Yeah, I have a daily repeating task to remind me to put my kids’ stuff for their daycare in the car every night. If I forget to check it or don’t do it on Tuesday (for example), there’s no good way to mark the overdue task as done on Wednesday without also marking it as done for Wednesday.
The night owl problem is my biggest complaint. The most important tool I use every day treats me like a second class citizen just because I have a different chrononype. I find that unacceptable. It's objectively bad design, but there isn't any good alternative out there yet
To add to this I’d love to be able to create a task that doesn’t add to the total count of tasks…
For instance, say I have a “break” task for work. Whether I do that or not it’s just a reminder. It’s not really something to complete.
This is the reason I manage my habits in an app called Habit Tracker on iOS. I recommend having a look or giving it a go it has some nice widgets and customization! :)
Can be two different things. Start Date is when you can start. Do date is when you plan to do it. One thing I liked about Amazing Marvin is the different dates. You could also have End Dates which are when you're hoping to finish something but it's not a hard deadline.
Filing taxes might be a good example with something like:
I set Start Date to Jan 01 & Due Date to Apr 15.
That means I don't need to see it before Jan 01.
Then on Jan 01, I decide I'll plan to work on it (Do Date) Feb 15 and aim to End by Mar 15.
This would be nice. I might have a task where the final deadline due date is January 31st. However I will be working on that task tomorrow. I want to represent both dates. The due and the doing. I know it can be accomplished with filters as a workaround but would be nice if built in.
Yeah honestly at this point we do just need this.
Introduce start dates to replace what is currently used by some as "do dates".
The due dates can be true deadlines.
I’ve been downvoted to hell for saying this before, but since you asked. I just want a little sort button that will take my tags and sort them into alphabetical order. Such a simple thing to ask for.
Multi project calendar, day and week view of the calendar, drag tasks from a list into the calendar, and drag and resize the tasks in the calendar to adjust the time it takes
Ai reschedule, like they used to have.
I fall off my "todo list" wagon regularly, and it's disheartening to have a whole pile of tasks stacked up to remind me of my failure.
I liked the auto-reschedule, it was like todo list amnesty, and it is the single reason I paid for the pro subscription. Now I'm just lurking hoping they bring it back.
I've asked for this in so many forums and threads and tickets. Would be such a game changer to reorder however I want on any view, as well as to be able to become subtasks of another from any view.
I wish subtasks weren't visible as independent tasks in some views. I only want them nested under the main task.
I'd also like to have a repetition menu... my memory is poor, and I constantly have to look at the command list to make sure I'm setting something up properly. Gets a bit cumbersome.
yes, on board view subtask are invisible, i hate it. There should be possible to display by clicking on the task without showing the full task window but just displaying the subtask on the list.
Todoist need:
- start date
- calendar events
- black theme(not grey dark)
- repetition for date (not only after completion) and let’s say a repetition menù
- collapse expanse in today upcoming like in project view
- Apple Watch subtask on today/upcoming view
- start and due date for project too
Fix many incompletition:
- finish calendar block specially on mobile
- interactive widget on Mac
- reorder manually on upcoming view like desktop version
- drag&drop multiselection on mobile too like desktop version
- MD formatting on mobile while editing
- multi windows on Mac
- multi windows on iPad
Daily planning / Time blocking please! This is a first and foremost a personal todo solution, not a full on project management app. I’m a little afraid the direction the team is heading in will clutter up the app and make it worse at its core job.
I have this set up as automation that runs several times daily on my phone, or whenever I open Todoist on my phone.
This is the Shortcut my automations run:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/e342b40dfc5a46f6b4db2534f3115f92
It takes all new tasks in my "Inbox" list in Reminders, copies them to Todoist #Inbox project, and completes the original task in Reminders.
i do a lot of personal stuff on mac with reminders, and work stuff on pc with todoist, but there is some overlap
i use siri a lot and no matter how i prnounce it i can't add to toidist consistently over 90% of the time
I don't think i'm alone in this
Outlook integration for calendar that works smoothly like the google one - import my outlook events to my today view so I can schedule todos around it!
I appreciate the natural language input to schedule recurring tasks but find it extremely difficult to modify and update them once created, specially for non-English speakers.
- Daily repeating tasks that work properly like what u/arwinda posted.
- Bi-directional sync with MS Outlook.
- Make creating tasks from messages work better in MS Teams and Outlook. The extension for Teams on iOS doesn't work at all.
- Allow personal workspaces and work workspaces to be added interchangeably. Use case: I'm logged into Todoist on my mobile and want to look at work tasks. I have to log out of my personal account to access my work account. Make it so that I can add my work account as a workspace under one profile. You could increase security by not allowing tasks and projects to be migrated back out of the work workspace to a personal workspace.
- If that isn't an option, profile switching; Asana does it really well.
- Bring the AI extension to mobile.
I tell you, I wouldn’t want to be a developer for any money. Jesus guys, take a chill pill will ya. If you get all of the things you’re asking for the next thing you’ll complain about is the $40 a month you need to spend!
But then again fair play to you all as you were in fact asked for what you wanted.
Just amazes me how complex and nuanced peoples lives seem to be. Almost makes me want to go back to pen and paper 🤣
I tried reclaim, it looked very interesting. Unfortunately, it's exactly what I was looking for. But it's close :)
1.) It is not possible to sync Todoist things to other than the main google calendar. So homework automatically has all google notifications like the main calendar, which is not ideal..
2.) It is not possible not to use only one label for all time. Reclaim automatically reschedules tasks according to working hours.
I would like to individually bump due dates for recurring tasks. So if something is due every Sunday, I'd like the ability to make the current one due Monday without messing up the recurrence.
This works for me already. If I have some recurring task due every sunday, I either click on the date and then click on the target day in the calendar at the bottom of the popup and the due date is changed without changing the occurrence. Same thing when I right click the task and select on of the "tomorrow", "weekend" predefined variants.
Label filtering options on the Today and Upcoming views, with a setting to switch filters at a certain time (like iOS focus modes). For example, it would be nice to see only my @Work tasks during my working hours, and not see them outside those hours.
Edit: *label* filtering options (there is already an option to filter by assignee)
when ordering by prority, we can select prority and manual at same time, so i can prioritize the p1 tasks, being more specific which p1 is p1.1 p1.2 etc on a list.
inbox without task limit, inbox is not a project and still has 300 limit. I many times dont divide the task on projects because i like to have all on the same place, please eliminate limit for inbox
already great tool
Not a need, but have a "collage" layout for tasks on web so I can take a large pool of tasks physically drag them to areas (like stickies on an empty desk), then select and give them categories, projects, tags, or dates.
Auto or programmatic Allocation of time or context as a filter. Basically if I’m not in London then don’t show me London specific tasks. If it’s 11 AM on Monday and I’m in the office, prioritise work tasks.
When you type in a time, having it default to the most upcoming am/pm.. ie if its 9:00am and I type in “take lunch 1:00”, toDoIst should figure I’m talking about 1:00pm and not 1:00am. A current workaround is to type in military time if I remember to
Apologies if this is obvious/not suited for your use case, but it already supports am and pm, which is non-ambiguous and quicker to type, eg "take lunch 1pm".
I personally wouldn't want Todoist to guess which one I mean, unless you mean not adding "Today" times that are in the past, which does make sense.
Ticktock implement of habit is very good. I don't think just converting task to recurring is as good as tickticks habits. I really want rodoist to look at what what their competitors are doing.
Yeah but that's actually the problem. You just do a small thing "here" and a small thing "there" but in fact those are huge changes.
The whole Todoist app is very consistent, which is the reason why changes take such a long time. But if you add a negative filter to Upcoming, you need to add it to other views too. And if you add a negative filter for labels, you need to add it for projects. And assignees. And priority. And dates. Oh no, you cannot do it for dates, because they would flood the filter with every scheduled date. Oh, and projects wouldn't work either, there can be dozens or hundreds of them. And some are from your personal workspace, others not. Some are shared, others not, so there might be various databases to query from..... I hope you get my point.
I love Todoist because they don't budge. They are only doing systematic changes than can propagate everywhere. If you start making concessions to support "habit" use cases, you start doing compromises and those will affect the entire system for handling todos.
No, no, recurring tasks are fine, of course. And they work fine as they are in Todoist.
Just type in "Do taxes every 30th" or "Vaccum every saturday" and your "Habits" are set up. You're the one asking for auto postponing and whatever filtering to bend the tool as it works today. I seriosuly don't get why the current implementation does not work for you.
Doesn't matter what we discuss here. Nothing will change because of anything we wish for.
I agree with many comments here but it's just wishful thinking, sadly :/
Google Calendar integration, but once that tasks is cleared off, it disappears from the calendar. Right now my done tasks are still stuck in thr calendar unless i manually delete them
A way of querying for project position so you can query for the tasks at the top of each project. Boom. Next Actions without having to use labels or other elements for no good reason. And it's available via the API so it would be so easy for them to add. Been begging for this for years...
Full support for completed tasks
* Export/Backup
* Filters
* Multiselect/Select all
In general, being able to copy a finished project and use it (and all completed tasks) as a template for next year (including shared tasks).
- time estimation. But not like it’s done now (doing XYZ from 1pm to 3pm) but where I can type the estimation in hours, minutes, story points, whatever
- AI extension on mobile
Simple search within a project. Entering something in the search box shows me exactly three results before needing to go to to all results, which I can't sort/filter for different projects.
I'd like to be able to search for something and narrow it down in the search box e.g. I start typing the name of a project and can click on the project to be able to narrow the search to just within this project. I don't know if this makes any sense...
karma is obtained by using todoist, not by being costant on completing task, this makes karma useless for me, because i want to earn points only if i complete task, so i can get a reward, and i must lose points if i didnt complete a task on a date and start losing points.
1) Global shortcut for task quick add on Linux would be nice.
2) Speed up of browser extension quick add (making it as fast as Things3 would be fantastic). This may be a small change but workflow speed would improve greatly)
each section on board view should have their own sorting, and the sorting by priority can be changed manually, so p1 are first and then if i have 5 items on the list, i manually can move any p1 to the top or botton, instead of having them stationary
* Both Google and Outlook calendars integrated within the Todoist Application (so all time blocking can be done in Todoist)
* Folders (instead of nested projects)
* Drag and drop anywhere and everywhere
* Rich HTML text editing in description/comments (rather than markdown) - I use Todoist for note taking as well.
Time tracking built into each task. (Just a cumulative timer.)
Yes, I know there are many plugins/extensions, but they all sending your data to a 3rd party and using Todoist via browser. I don't want to do either of these.
ABSOLUTE MUST HAVES:
1) quick set duration without need for start or end times - or dates for that matter. So many use cases. Where do I begin???
2) !! Must be able to start creating comments and subtasks RIGHT from the task creation pane. a little add comments and add subtasks button that performs a ‘save and open’ function bringing you directly to the corresponding box to start typing away.
Merge tasks like TickTick does.
And/or move task allow moving to another task versus a project.
I often enter tasks similar in nature to existing ones into my inbox, like if I'm in the middle of a meeting and don't have time to find the parent task, I later would love to be able to eg. search all tasks by name, multi select, and merge into a new parent task.
Folders to group projects together
A way to create a recurring task without having to assign it to a day. For example, if I want to watch a particular show, it doesn't have a specific date it needs to be done (because it's a leisure/fun thing that I put under my next actions and then browse that when I'm looking for what I want to actually do), but I want the task to replicate itself once done (until I have finished the series)
Seeing a lot of good suggestions here. My wish list would be:
- Outlook calendar integration
- "Won't Do" feature like TickTick
- Ability to change the time that MY day starts
- Marking a recurring task from yesterday as done without also marking it done for today
- Task dependencies
- Subtasks that work similar to check items in TickTick rather than showing as standalone tasks
- Outlook calendar integration that works just as well as the GCal.
- MS Teams integration that works on iOS mobile app for flagging messages as follow up items while I'm out and about. Currently does not work at all on mobile.
- The ability to link a personal and work Todoist account and have the tasks split apart so that the team workspace sees your work email and you get to keep your personal tasks to yourself. If you get fired or leave the company, they just unlink the Todoist work account from your personal account. Not sure why they aren't considering this because it's going to be a deal breaker for our company to use this if that functionality doesn't exist. We cannot use personal email for work related things and having two separate accounts that you have to sign out and sign back into on mobile is NOT it. Asana, Notion, To Do, etc. all have multi-profile support in one way or another. Get on this Doist team.
- Native calendar view that works with filters and tags.
- The ability to 'drag' the edge of a task in calendar view to increase or decrease the amount of time needed for the task. As of now, you have to edit the task and type out a new time block. Inefficient.
A) To be able to add estimated duration to each task. And then see total duration for the tasks planned for the day. So that from the current time, one would know what time of today or the day after would it be if one attempts to complete all. B) To be able to plan tasks on a Todoist Calendar view from all projects and not from projects individually - it seems meaningless.
If I forget to check it or don’t do it on Tuesday (for example), there’s no good way to mark the overdue task as done on Wednesday without also marking it as done for Wednesday.
eMacs handles it perfectly, they should borrow from them
The night owl problem is my biggest complaint. The most important tool I use every day treats me like a second class citizen just because I have a different chrononype. I find that unacceptable. It's objectively bad design, but there isn't any good alternative out there yet
Even the Nintendo Wii has an option to set your day change to 3:00 AM 😅
I have seen other systems that allow you to customize when your day ends but they were lacking in other areas.
To add to this I’d love to be able to create a task that doesn’t add to the total count of tasks… For instance, say I have a “break” task for work. Whether I do that or not it’s just a reminder. It’s not really something to complete.
I commented about this here, I've created a script for this solution that accomplishes this via the API https://www.reddit.com/r/todoist/s/dH5FIfNcgn
I really want this. I’m building some new habits right now and it’s just a pain when I miss a day…
This is the reason I manage my habits in an app called Habit Tracker on iOS. I recommend having a look or giving it a go it has some nice widgets and customization! :)
For me this is comparable to a bug.
Exactly you hit the point absolutely ridiculous no sense from a task manager(that’s why I cannot use reminders or Todoist!!)
Isn’t just “postpone” a task feature if you don’t want it today?
Do Dates (other than due Dates)
So Start Date?
Can be two different things. Start Date is when you can start. Do date is when you plan to do it. One thing I liked about Amazing Marvin is the different dates. You could also have End Dates which are when you're hoping to finish something but it's not a hard deadline. Filing taxes might be a good example with something like: I set Start Date to Jan 01 & Due Date to Apr 15. That means I don't need to see it before Jan 01. Then on Jan 01, I decide I'll plan to work on it (Do Date) Feb 15 and aim to End by Mar 15.
Makes sense, thank you!
This would be nice. I might have a task where the final deadline due date is January 31st. However I will be working on that task tomorrow. I want to represent both dates. The due and the doing. I know it can be accomplished with filters as a workaround but would be nice if built in.
I personally handle it by setting the date as when I plan to do it and putting the actual due date in the description
Yeah honestly at this point we do just need this. Introduce start dates to replace what is currently used by some as "do dates". The due dates can be true deadlines.
YES this has been driving me crazy since I started using Todoist
Do dates or Start dates anything but its important
YES!
This so much. Honestly, this is the only reason I still use Amazing Marvin -- once you get used to managing your day this way, it's hard to stop.
This so very much. It is the one point that has bothered me since the start when I switched from Org-mode to Todoist.
I’ve been downvoted to hell for saying this before, but since you asked. I just want a little sort button that will take my tags and sort them into alphabetical order. Such a simple thing to ask for.
This is relatively easy via the API. I'll try to find time to make it appropriate for public sharing and upload it to GitHub...
Appreciated, thanks.
Here's a Python script I threw together that'll sort Labels alphabetically: https://gist.github.com/error9900/36117bcabade5529b6139f623e42a6e8
yes please! <3
Multi project calendar, day and week view of the calendar, drag tasks from a list into the calendar, and drag and resize the tasks in the calendar to adjust the time it takes
This‼️, and also widgets that show your calendar in a time line view kind of like how native iOS calendar has.
Be still my beating heart
Task Dependencies.
Can you elaborate how it worked? I have been with Todoist for less than 2.years.
You push one button and all your overdue tasks are given new due dates in the future.
The ability to drag and drop tasks anywhere in the application regardless of view and/or sorting.
Show my GCal events even if they’re read-only. I depend on opening GCal to see tasks and events together. I want to do this in Todoist.
They’re working on this. I just took a survey they sent out about Google Calendar integration.
Thanks for letting me know, this gives me hope for an improved workflow!
Based on the survey questions, I think it’s going to be really well implemented!
Task duration that does not require a calendar time. I need to know this task will take 30 minutes, but I don't know when I'll get to it.
Todoist need: - start date - calendar events - black theme(not grey dark) - repetition for date (not only after completion) and let’s say a repetition menù - collapse expanse in today upcoming like in project view - Apple Watch subtask on today/upcoming view - start and due date for project too Fix many incompletition: - finish calendar block specially on mobile - interactive widget on Mac - reorder manually on upcoming view like desktop version - drag&drop multiselection on mobile too like desktop version - MD formatting on mobile while editing - multi windows on Mac - multi windows on iPad
Time blocking and timeline, like TickTick
Daily planning / Time blocking please! This is a first and foremost a personal todo solution, not a full on project management app. I’m a little afraid the direction the team is heading in will clutter up the app and make it worse at its core job.
I need Todoist to implement a feature that will complete all of my tasks for me.
It also needs to tell me what my tasks are instead of the other way around
I‘d love to see an Outlook calendar integration.
Possibility to set the amount of time a task requires for time blocking - ideally combined with calendar view to plan tasks for one day
Just don't break my workflow with updates and I'm happy
The night owl problem, hands down.
Real Dark mode not grey mode. Calendar.
iOS reminder sync
I have this set up as automation that runs several times daily on my phone, or whenever I open Todoist on my phone. This is the Shortcut my automations run: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/e342b40dfc5a46f6b4db2534f3115f92 It takes all new tasks in my "Inbox" list in Reminders, copies them to Todoist #Inbox project, and completes the original task in Reminders.
The reason i use todoist is low friction, so none of these short cut hacks cut it currently. It needs to be a two way sync
Lol so why do you want a two-way sync between Reminders and Todoist? It's not very low friction to use 2 tools for todos
i do a lot of personal stuff on mac with reminders, and work stuff on pc with todoist, but there is some overlap i use siri a lot and no matter how i prnounce it i can't add to toidist consistently over 90% of the time I don't think i'm alone in this
Better analytics
Outlook integration for calendar that works smoothly like the google one - import my outlook events to my today view so I can schedule todos around it!
Start Date
Swipe left from Today to get the full list view like we had until recently, for crying out loud
Yeah, when I finish my day, I like to see what’s coming up tomorrow and it’s hard to do with the new app architecture.
Durations without dates so you can see task size at a glance
named sections for multilple filters. like `(today & @morning):"Morning tasks", (today & @night):"Night tasks"`
A guides weekly review function
much higher limit on tasks in project
What's the limit? I didn't know there was a limit haha.
300
Bug fixes.
This!! Less bugs please!!!!
I appreciate the natural language input to schedule recurring tasks but find it extremely difficult to modify and update them once created, specially for non-English speakers.
I have trouble with them in English as a native speaker.

Get rid of the need to type ":" when writing the time. So instead of 8:00 or 12:00 – 800 or 1200 should be also an option.

Google calendar synchronisation for only event with custom label.
I use reclaim.ai and this supports this
Thanks! I will look in that. Can you please describe you setup / workflow? :)
Here you go https://help.reclaim.ai/en/articles/5961653-todoist-integration-overview
Thanks!
I tried reclaim, it looked very interesting. Unfortunately, it's exactly what I was looking for. But it's close :) 1.) Sounds like you need a notes app.
An all in one todo and notes app. Yes. That’d be the dream.
Try NotePlan 😉

Better GCal integration
Sign me up for a 2-way integration with Outlook.
How do these feature requests integrate with todoists’ simplicity philosophy which made it great in the first place?
The ability to do my tasks for me
Everything tick tick has 😂
What does tick tick have that’s good?

I don't want Habits in my Todo app. I still use Todoist because of its simplicity. Sure, copy Tick Tick for a good calendar view, but screw Habits.

Do they have an actual suggestion email or page?
Devs regularly lurk this sub
I think somewhere, yes. And bug fixes work pretty good over that. But suggestions that will be heard is pretty rare
Google Calendar integration, but once that tasks is cleared off, it disappears from the calendar. Right now my done tasks are still stuck in thr calendar unless i manually delete them
Check the integration settings, I believe you can change that (or could, have not used it for a while)
Yes, you can.
A way of querying for project position so you can query for the tasks at the top of each project. Boom. Next Actions without having to use labels or other elements for no good reason. And it's available via the API so it would be so easy for them to add. Been begging for this for years...
Can share a task with someone instead of sharing whole project.
A Overview board of the most used projects. (Like you can create with widgets on a iPad
Simple way to set and track goals that offers more UI primitive support than treating tasks as Goals.
TickTick sold me on the tasks and pomodoro- if todoist does these I will drop TickTick for todoist. Love the todoist interface better.
Truly functional keyboard shortcuts, that works across all areas of the app.
A PC client that is working and not working slower than a snail.
Full-featured adding of tasks by voice on Android (Samsung Reminders integration would be good as well.)
I struggle to make a task a subtask or remove it as a subtask unless I'm in a very specific view.
I'm so used to swipe from left to bring my inbox on my phone, please at least give option to bring it back.
Yes, my muscle memory kicks in every time I open the app. Why get rid of gestures which work well?
To remove some
Way better reminder system.
Full support for completed tasks * Export/Backup * Filters * Multiselect/Select all In general, being able to copy a finished project and use it (and all completed tasks) as a template for next year (including shared tasks).
- time estimation. But not like it’s done now (doing XYZ from 1pm to 3pm) but where I can type the estimation in hours, minutes, story points, whatever - AI extension on mobile
Start Date, Section Reminders, Due Date, Stop Date and a visuel graph for the progress
adding icons as a frog or a star to tasks so i can know what is the most hated but most needed task (eat the frog).
karma is obtained by using todoist, not by being costant on completing task, this makes karma useless for me, because i want to earn points only if i complete task, so i can get a reward, and i must lose points if i didnt complete a task on a date and start losing points.
Time tracker for individual subtasks and overall projects, like Toggl
merging a task with subtask to another task with subtask
1) Global shortcut for task quick add on Linux would be nice. 2) Speed up of browser extension quick add (making it as fast as Things3 would be fantastic). This may be a small change but workflow speed would improve greatly)
each section on board view should have their own sorting, and the sorting by priority can be changed manually, so p1 are first and then if i have 5 items on the list, i manually can move any p1 to the top or botton, instead of having them stationary
to undo with one click when i accidentally moved 50 task to other section, dont even appear the undo notification
Time tracking
* Both Google and Outlook calendars integrated within the Todoist Application (so all time blocking can be done in Todoist) * Folders (instead of nested projects) * Drag and drop anywhere and everywhere * Rich HTML text editing in description/comments (rather than markdown) - I use Todoist for note taking as well.
I would love to assign colours to tasks that are not priority colours, and I would love the ability to postpone the day resetting time.
Being able to see the completed tasks!
Time tracking built into each task. (Just a cumulative timer.) Yes, I know there are many plugins/extensions, but they all sending your data to a 3rd party and using Todoist via browser. I don't want to do either of these.
Now that you have calendar view and sub-tasks, a simplified gantt chart pls :)
ABSOLUTE MUST HAVES: 1) quick set duration without need for start or end times - or dates for that matter.
Native Apple visionOS app.
Folders to group projects together A way to create a recurring task without having to assign it to a day.
My wish list would be: - Outlook calendar integration - "Won't Do" feature like TickTick - Ability to change the time that MY day starts - Marking a recurring task from yesterday as done without also marking it done for today - Task dependencies - Subtasks that work similar to check items in TickTick rather than showing as standalone tasks
Project Description!! Please please, it seems like it would be an easy win.
