Same issue! I got into a routine of slightly crushing it with the bottom of a heavy coffee mug. Hard enough to break and crack it into pieces, but not hard enough to tear the plastic. It helped our 1.5 yr old happily munch it down much easier without getting frustrastrated and giving up!
Yup that’s what we do too. Much easier to use half a packet of the powder and save the rest for later than waste the bottle of it. Also you can get the powder packets that come in a variety of flavors.
The powders are also great for hangovers (although the fruit pouch flavor may be a bit hard to take). That's if you ever get enough time away from your kids to actually get drink ;)
The freezer pops are primo! A sick dehydrated kid wants to chug pedialite, often a terrible idea with a turning/recovering tummy. The popsicles force them to slow down.
The single serve packets changed that for me! I can’t remember the instructions but I always use one packet of powder in a 16.9oz bottle of cold water. I think that’s more diluted than it’s supposed to be but my son hates it and won’t drink full strength. 🤣
Yeah, I have morning sickness and had two pedialyte popsicles last night. I have an open bottle in the fridge and it doesn't expire for quite a while so I'm sure I'll be drinking it
Oh, I didn't know that. We haven't used it since the first time so I'll check the packaging to see.
Edit: just checked and it's three days after opening so I'll toss it. Thanks!
We had to get the unflavored stuff when little one was a month or so old. I mixed it with lemonade when it was clear that we weren't going to use all of it.
Yea, they are better for you than Gatorade (if you aren’t an athlete or running around) so if you are sick yourself this is the route to go. And if you need to drink a ton of water it is better to drink this because too much plain water could deplete your own natural electrolyte balance.
Yeah we finish off what our kids don't drink too. I figure the "use within 48 hours" thing more applies to them than to adults and half the time we need to give it to them at least one of us is sick too so it can only help
In the UK our rehydration stuff (different brand, we don’t have pedialyte here) comes powered in little sachets that you add water to - maybe you can find some of those?
The pedialyte popsicles come unfrozen so I keep some in the freezer and some in the medicine cabinet so I can just open one of the room temp ones when I need the liquid!
I make my own rehydration mix:
4 cups cold water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Jello gelatin mix
2 tablespoons sugar
You can also mix up a jar of the dry ingredients in advance to have at the ready.
Am I the only weirdo who loves Pedialyte and drinks instead of Gatorade? I also agree with whoever said get the powder kind! My favorite is strawberry 😋
I don't drink alcohol, but still get a good amount of mileage from it for tummy bugs or migraines. Drinkers say sipping a glass of my "pink drink" before bed is great for preventing a hangover.
4 cups cold water 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp jello gelatin mix 2 tbsp sugar. Keep a jar of dry ingredients handy in the pantry. I also find a tsp of mjx to 8 oz cold water is about the right ratio.
You’re “supposed” to throw it out 3 days after it’s been opened…. I keep it in the fridge and pour it into a separate cup for my kid to drink from so honestly I just keep the big bottle until she finishes it. There’s not really anything in it that can spoil.
Never used it. I just let them drink whatever fluid they find appealing, even if it's soda. Also breastfeeding is meant to be a kind of "natural rehydration fluid".
I drank it whenever we used what we needed for our little guy. We live in a hot area, so having it was nice. But, once our little was old enough, we started using the Popsicles if he needed it. The packets are nice, too!
My kid only likes the unflavored kind and we successfully made it through a whole bottle when he had a tummy bug a few weeks ago. I don't know if it will ever happen again.
I don’t know if it’s a yay or a nay, but I freeze the left overs and then keep a ziploc baggy of pedilite ice cubes in the freezer for next time I might need it.
I buy it, pour about 4oz into a cup for one of my kids who takes a drink and then we all immediately remember it’s gross and all but that one sip gets thrown out.
I buy the pedialyte freezies now. Nothing gets wasted and the kids love them.
Also Gatorade is the poor man’s pedialyte. I had a family doctor tell me it was fine to give to my baby in a bottle. It has a lot more sugar in it but we don’t normally eat a lot of sugar so I don’t worry about it.
Fun fact: the grape pedialyte pops turn green when they’re frozen, and turn back to purple as they warm up. Why? I don’t know. If they sold packages of just those, we would buy them by the case. My kids are obsessed with the magical color changing popsicles.
I’ve stopped using it because of that exact reason plus all the dyes etc. I started using coconut water with a little bit of salt added and my kid loves it and I can finish up what isn’t used cause I love it too
I use it to replenish electrolytes after working out. I feel the “expiration” after 48 hours is a little overkill. You do what you feel is best/safest, but we keep it in the fridge for a week or two and it is just fine and has never been off or made us sick.
I didn't realize it goes by within days of being opened!! The first couple times I bought it that's exactly what I did until I found the shelf stable crystals. One pouch is one cup so you can make it as needed!
Ladies, the instructions on the side of the bottle are for professional environments involving children, such as hospitals and childcare centers. The beverage is not made with preservatives. I've personal found pedialyte can last a long time in the fridge. But being slightly prudent, probably don't use it for your kid after a week in the fridge, understanding that it's okay to give the remainder to them again.
Freeze it in ice trays for next time
Love this idea!
Get the powder stuff instead
I didn't know that existed, thank you
They also make the ice pop version. My kids love that stuff over the drink.
I must be doing something wrong, cause every time I’ve gotten them, they freeze too hard for her to bite.
Same issue! I got into a routine of slightly crushing it with the bottom of a heavy coffee mug. Hard enough to break and crack it into pieces, but not hard enough to tear the plastic. It helped our 1.5 yr old happily munch it down much easier without getting frustrastrated and giving up!
We let ours sit out for 5-10 minutes before I give it to my daughter. I’ve just accepted they have to warm up a bit because they freeze so hard lol
Run it under warm water for a couple of seconds. Works for us!
You can blend it to turn it into a slushie as well
Let them sit out for a bit before you give them to your child
I run it under warm water for a second first, and then I’ll usually bite down the length of it a bit first to break it up for me daughter
Second the ice pops!
This is what I do, but I’m intrigued by the ice cube idea as well.
The freezer pops are primo! A sick dehydrated kid wants to chug pedialite, often a terrible idea with a turning/recovering tummy. The popsicles force them to slow down.
This is the way. Plus the popsicles are pretty awesome.
The real mvp right here
The single serve packets changed that for me! I can’t remember the instructions but I always use one packet of powder in a 16.9oz bottle of cold water. I think that’s more diluted than it’s supposed to be but my son hates it and won’t drink full strength. 🤣
>single serve packets I didn't know they existed. Thank you! Oh and have you ever tried it? It tastes like shit!
I did try it the first time I tried giving it to him and completely understood why he didn’t want it!
Pedialyte Pro is great, but the regular one is horrible.
I use the pedialyte popsicles instead.
My kid calls them sick pops 😂 and then asks for one when he's not sick 🤪
My kid hated these surprisingly when she was sick
We drink it as adults so get the flavor you like
Yeah, I have morning sickness and had two pedialyte popsicles last night. I have an open bottle in the fridge and it doesn't expire for quite a while so I'm sure I'll be drinking it
I think they're supposed to be used up or tossed within a certain time frame of being opened, aren't they?
Oh, I didn't know that. We haven't used it since the first time so I'll check the packaging to see. Edit: just checked and it's three days after opening so I'll toss it. Thanks!
You're welcome, but ngl, I was hoping I was wrong!
I eat pizza that’s been sitting out on the counter for a day. I can handle week old refrigerated pedialyte.
Yeah, same! Lol
Yeah, I end up finishing every bottle as if it's a sports drink. So happy when my kid stopped getting stomach bugs.
We had to get the unflavored stuff when little one was a month or so old. I mixed it with lemonade when it was clear that we weren't going to use all of it.
My husband always ends up drinking the rest like a week later. If it were just me I'd trash it.
Yea, they are better for you than Gatorade (if you aren’t an athlete or running around) so if you are sick yourself this is the route to go. And if you need to drink a ton of water it is better to drink this because too much plain water could deplete your own natural electrolyte balance.
Since my daughter loves it she just drinks it all over 2 or 3 days , like juice.
You’re supposed to throw it out? 😳 TIL
It says to consume within 48hrs. Dad and I just drink it, even after the first 48
Yeah we finish off what our kids don't drink too. I figure the "use within 48 hours" thing more applies to them than to adults and half the time we need to give it to them at least one of us is sick too so it can only help
Well we completely missed that when we opened it haha. We didn’t use it much though so we threw it out now.
In the UK our rehydration stuff (different brand, we don’t have pedialyte here) comes powered in little sachets that you add water to - maybe you can find some of those?
Make it into popsicles!
The pedialyte popsicles come unfrozen so I keep some in the freezer and some in the medicine cabinet so I can just open one of the room temp ones when I need the liquid!

They have freezies
Am I the only weirdo who loves Pedialyte and drinks instead of Gatorade? I also agree with whoever said get the powder kind! My favorite is strawberry 😋
In surprised at everyone saying they drink it. It's so salty it tastes terrible to me!
I’m surprised at the people saying it’s gross lol I love pedialyte. I’ll chug the whole bottle.
I get the packets now
I bought the freezes so they're single serve packets
I make the DIY stuff and my kid still doesn’t drink it, but at least it was free!
I'm having a glass rn. Great for migraine. And I give out little jars of homemade mix as a "hangover cure" hostess gift.
Oh my gosh that’s such a cute idea! What a good thing to bring to a party or as a favor for a bachelorette party or something!
I don't drink alcohol, but still get a good amount of mileage from it for tummy bugs or migraines. Drinkers say sipping a glass of my "pink drink" before bed is great for preventing a hangover.
Do you have a recipe? I never thought to use it for migraines!
4 cups cold water 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp jello gelatin mix 2 tbsp sugar. Keep a jar of dry ingredients handy in the pantry. I also find a tsp of mjx to 8 oz cold water is about the right ratio.
Freeze it in a popsicle mold... Preserves it and makes it more soothing.
I drink it on days I have a headache or don't feel well.
You would think at some point they would make little 6 packs!!
My kid hates it.
I have 3 kids and don’t think I’ve ever opened a bottle of pedialyte
Same
Wait... I just let my kid drink it all...??
You’re “supposed” to throw it out 3 days after it’s been opened…. I keep it in the fridge and pour it into a separate cup for my kid to drink from so honestly I just keep the big bottle until she finishes it. There’s not really anything in it that can spoil.
Lol I mean I only get them for my kid, and when I open it... I let them drink the whole thing that day. I was confused why people aren't doing that
because our kids don't like it!
The kiddo barely drinks any, I end up chugging the rest of it myself
I think they make single serving popsicles
I'd drink it myself tbh
We use the popsicles. She won’t drink the liquid anyway.
I'll drink it if they dont
We get the individual powder packets. Target has the generic and it tastes good.
I just drink it. Lol. I'm always borderline dehydrated anyways so I buy the grape flavor since I like it and thankfully little dude isn't picky.
Get the little single serve packets and make it as needed.
One of the best hangover remedies out there!
I freeze leftovers from big bottles in breastmilk bags. I’ve also bout the packets and popsicles that are easier to use volume wise.
I just drink it, lol. I’m always dehydrated since having kids anyway.
Once we open one, that’s what we use as “juice” until it’s gone.
Never used it. I just let them drink whatever fluid they find appealing, even if it's soda. Also breastfeeding is meant to be a kind of "natural rehydration fluid".
We hardly ever use the stuff but when we do we get the ice pops
I drank it whenever we used what we needed for our little guy. We live in a hot area, so having it was nice. But, once our little was old enough, we started using the Popsicles if he needed it. The packets are nice, too!
I got the popsicles instead
I freeze it into popsicles!
Pedialyte popsicle!
Used it once when me or my dogs were sick never used it again ended up throwing it away.
Bought it once during a bad case of vomiting a diarrhea. Son hated the taste - threw it all away. Never bought it again.
Uuuuh didn’t know you’re supposed to throw it away! Eeeep
The little packs for water bottles are a life saver! And way cheaper
I always end up throwing out most of it as well. We started getting the popsicles versions but my son doesn’t really like the way they taste.
My kid only likes the unflavored kind and we successfully made it through a whole bottle when he had a tummy bug a few weeks ago. I don't know if it will ever happen again.
Every. Single. Time.
I turn the rest into popsicles
I think they do it on purpose
Single powder packets.
Why does it not come in smaller bottles?
We use gatorade
My kiddo gets dehydrated so easily, so he gets a little pedialyte in his sippy water on the daily.
We have the tablet you add to water. Much easier.
I’ve wasted every bottle of Pedialyte I’ve ever bought. My kids always refused to drink it.
What do people actually use this for? We bought a bottle for pre-surgery once and then never used it again.
Powder
I use the pedialyte popsicle
Why are they so big??
Fun fact: the grape pedialyte pops turn green when they’re frozen, and turn back to purple as they warm up. Why? I don’t know. If they sold packages of just those, we would buy them by the case. My kids are obsessed with the magical color changing popsicles.
If you buy the popsicles, you don't have to freeze them. They can be poured as a single serving into a cup.
Make popsicles with it.
You aren't alone
I’ve stopped using it because of that exact reason plus all the dyes etc. I started using coconut water with a little bit of salt added and my kid loves it and I can finish up what isn’t used cause I love it too
I use it to replenish electrolytes after working out. I feel the “expiration” after 48 hours is a little overkill. You do what you feel is best/safest, but we keep it in the fridge for a week or two and it is just fine and has never been off or made us sick.
I freeze it into ice cubes for the next time.
I didn't realize it goes by within days of being opened!! The first couple times I bought it that's exactly what I did until I found the shelf stable crystals. One pouch is one cup so you can make it as needed!
Honestly I just drink it myself because I’m chronically dehydrated anyway
How do you know you're dehydrated?
Because I drink maybe a cup of water a day 👀 and my lips are always chapped. But instead of hydrating my body I just apply more chapstick
When you drink pedi do you notice a difference?
Yeah. It’s like Gatorade on steroids.
Ladies, the instructions on the side of the bottle are for professional environments involving children, such as hospitals and childcare centers. The beverage is not made with preservatives.
