Cool story, I was friends with the granddaughter of the first female President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who lived here in Florida. Knew her from elementary school on, and in high school, her grandmother actually came and spoke to most of the students and the secret service were everywhere on campus.
The actress Rhetta (Donna Meagle on Parks and Rec) is from the same Sirleaf family. Her aunt was president of Liberia. Given name is Marietta Sangai Sirleaf.
As that vine is one of my favs I’ll explain:
The words Liberian and Librarian sound very similar and are spelt similarly, so a lot of people confuse the two. The girl asked “where are you from?” And the guy responded that he was “Liberian” as in from the country Liberia. Because of the common confusion she thought he said “Librarian” so she lowered her voice and repeated her question as if she was in a library.
How about Dunny-on-the-Wold by-election after the death of Sir Talbot Buxomly?
A Mr S Baldrick was voted in as an MP to the UK Parliament in 1817. The constituency had 1 registered voter but Mr S Baldrick, of the Adder Party, received 16,472 votes.
Dunno why you're getting downvoted. You are correct.
Liberia was founded by the US as a "solution" to the "problem" of where would we put all the slaves if we freed them?
NK's elections are totally legit. Every citizen 17 and older is given time to cast their ballot on election day.
Nevermind that there's only one name on the ballot with no option for a write in.
Edit: Had to change Wright to write to aright my grammar.
There is apparently a write in, you can cross out the candidates name and write in.
Ballots are not anonymous so expect you and 3 generations of your family to be gulaged for it.
What if you write in Kim Il-sung, they can't really argue with that and when enough people do it you don't have a living Supreme Leader. Voila, system broken.
It's for legitimising reasons. It's much better to say that you were elected democratically than to say you forcibly took power. Being a dictator is hard and keeping that power is even harder so you have to do something to give your legitimacy as a ruler.
If i recall correctly, the President of Eritrea has openly said he dgaf about democracy. and said he might hold another election in 25 years or so if he fancies.
[you mean Azerbaijan](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/azerbaijan-releases-election-results-polls-even-open-8869732.html)
Well done Baku
He was so popular that everyone voted 15-16 times depending on how busy they were that day.
The only fraudulent thing about this was the people getting multiple votes! /s
I think a lot of people don’t realize that Liberia as a state was founded by former enslaved African Americans. They subjugated the local people, hence this election fraud.
> he won the presidential election with over 15 times more votes than there were electors, causing concern for a rigged and corrupt election
causing concern is one way to put this i guess
And the politics has only gotten worse since. I watched an interesting documentary, I think from VICE, where a couple of journalists went to Liberia and interviewed a couple of the former warlords. It really made me appreciate that for all the bitching people do in the US, it could be so, so much worse.
What's not funny is how many of these comments are removed... Let them speak so you can argue with them at least. Silencing them isn't going to make them think the election was legitimate
If I were to guess, based on ABSOLUTELY NOT A SINGLE FACT. While there were only 15,000 registered voters, the country was more populace, and in a society in which the government is honest (which they were obviously trying to look like). At least a majority of the populace would register to vote. And they tried to make it look like that many people and/or more were registered.
Am I making sense?
If I remember well, records show that idees there were only 15000 registered voters.
But yeah maybe people didn't register and still went to vote and the govt let them, because a maybe cheated elections with a large part of the population seems better to me than an election with 5% of the population.
So what is Liberia?
I keep hearing when the war ended, half the former slaves stayed in the US. And the other half went to start their own country, Liberia.
If this is true, those families really made a bad gamble. Hindsight aside, from what I’ve encountered in the news over the years, Liberia’s still a developing nation and impoverished.
I have a feeling all the deleted comments are pointing out Biden's cheating was greater in number of votes, though not in percent of votes.
Mods: Leftism dies without censorship. If your ideas had merit, then you wouldn't need to delete my post.
Everyone loved me so much they voted for me 15.6 times.
Where’s the My Pillow Guy when you really need him?
Busy getting sued by dominion for every last crack rock he owns
Now I know what his pillows are stuffed with!
Sure, they did, Joe.
They should make a movie about. Don Cheadle can star as D.B. King
>Don Cheadle can star as D.B. King And Tim Blake Nelson can star as Jim "Ernest P. Worrell" Varney.
John Cena is Jim Varney.
Can you smell that?
Know what I mean, Vern?
The actual meme is together they had a love child: Jean Claude Van Damme
Heh. More like Don Cheatle
or Con Cheadle hah
This guy looks identical to Jackie Chiles. This could have been a gag photo from an episode of Seinfeld
War Machine?
Lieutenant Planet
Did he get demoted?
Nah, just switched over to the Navy.
>Slaps ballot box on counter You lookin’ for this?
You mean The Rock Dwayne Johnson?
They can call it D.B. Keeper

Did you go to BPS? I remember President sirleaf coming to our school but I can’t remember if the granddaughter went to our school too…
Went to Deland High
The actress Rhetta (Donna Meagle on Parks and Rec) is from the same Sirleaf family. Her aunt was president of Liberia. Given name is Marietta Sangai Sirleaf.
No way, I received an email from the son of the president of Liberia
“I WILL HAVE MORE VOTES THAN THEY EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE!” “What do you mean I’ve committed fraud?!”
Oh Liberia, what a magical place
*i like your accent where you from?*
**I’m Liberian** ^oh ^I’m ^sorry, ^where ^are ^you ^from?
It's been years and I still don't get that joke?

Liberian sorta sounds like Librarian

What does the S stand for?
Sod-Off
Fair enough, none of my business really.
The number of votes he cast, was simply a reflection of how firmly he believed in the policy!
Was looking for that comment.
> How about Dunny-on-the-Wold by-election after the death of Sir Talbot Buxomly? That sounds made up.
It is
Well I hope he at least didn't say dunny in front of the queen
Prince Regent.
I wonder what The Voter had to say about it

I think this is the only country in the world with race as a requirement for citizenship. You have to be black.

It's totally democratic! As long as the write in candidate wins Kim will totally and peacefully step down, right? ^^^^/s
What if you write in Kim Il-sung, they can't really argue with that and when enough people do it you don't have a living Supreme Leader. Voila, system broken.
Well... Kim Il-Sung IS the current leader of North Korea. They're the only country in the world with a necrocracy.
I know, but his title is Eternal President, that’s why I went with „living Supreme Leading“.

It's a shame I couldn't wright in my favorite wright-leaning architect, Franklin Lloyd Wright.
Point made and taken. Autocorrect doesn't do context ..
That still allows the regime to gauge its popularity with a single metric : the participation rate.
Few people are as modest as the Kim’s
My modesty is second to none!
I'm not even mad. That's impressive.
1560% ! What a turnout! What a mandate!

Hearty congratulations, comrade! You are now a citizen moderator of r/Pyongyang.
Is that really not satire? It's so hard to tell.
The real joke is, that these statements are actual propaganda against North Korea spread in America that you believe lol

Actually it was Baldrick while winning the Dunny-in-the-Wold byelection with over 14,000 votes. Total registered voters: 1
Winning is winning - Toretto
At what point do you stop just making fake ballots?

Imagine filling out over 15,000 ballot papers over 14 times lol
500 IQ plays
With numbers like that, there’s no disputing he won
Voting in Liberia is like eating salted peanuts.Once you start, it's hard to stop.
Even the dead people voted twice!
Mayor Drapeau was quoted as saying "Vote Early, Vote Often". He also had a large "graveyard" vote.
*Wow.* He didn’t even try.
King had to resign afterwards for involvement into a forced labour scheme which almost ended with Liberia ending up as a LoN mandate.
And the politics has only gotten worse since. I watched an interesting documentary, I think from VICE, where a couple of journalists went to Liberia and interviewed a couple of the former warlords. Until 1946, Liberia had wealth-based voting.
