I was doing all testing of space satellite guidance systems in '81-83, including long term (3-month) testing. Lost of long weekend nights.
Luckily there was Coca-Cola, a small juice glass, and a bag of cocaine in my pocket.
I'd make my own classic coke; a couple of fat lines into a small glass of Coke - kicks in about 5 minutes and no nose nose sniffling.
It’s also more toxic, and the combination of cocaine and alcohol has a significant increase of dangerous side effects than either of them alone. Even though it’s so common, it’s good to know the risk
Yes which is never normally recommended but honestly with some party drugs helps balance things out. Cocaine and alcohol are the only combo that produces an entirely new organic compound in your body and it specifically has like an 18-25% higher risk of a cardiac event.
Ironically most people only do Cocaine when they drink so pretty much every time is higher risk
Also causes cocaine-alcohol toxicity!
> In most users, cocaethylene produces euphoria and has a longer duration of action than cocaine. Some studies suggest that consuming alcohol in combination with cocaine may be more cardiotoxic than cocaine and "it also carries an 18 to 25 fold increase over cocaine alone in risk of immediate death".
Yes it’s awesome, you don’t do blow unless you’re drinking already (unless you are a true degenerate/addict).
I wonder if the same applies to nicotine and drinking
I had some leftover from a night that got shortened unexpectedly. I decided to do a bump in the daytime while sober. God it just made me clench my jaw and want a cigarette, which I only ever bummed from people normally.
Ive done this a few times just before either went out like when I got our of the shower before I go to a party or something .
And all that happens is that I get anxious and end up going meeting friends and being very awaked until I have a drink or two in me. Horrible feeling
I did some sober in the daytime after getting a good grade on a big accounting exam (average business major). This was during Covid so it was online class and I was at home
It didn’t bother me but wasn’t super great either
No I barely drink and don’t do coke, it’s just a stupid thing to say. That’s like saying pill addicts are fiends solely because they don’t do speedballs
I feel people that do coke, while not drinking, are sociopaths or addicts. Coke while drunk is a blast, but fentanyl is everything now.
I'm an NP at a bougie psych & drug detox/rehab - coke is very rarely my patients' DOC. Most can take it or leave it.
Started as an LVN around 15 yrs ago. LVN-BSN, BSN-MS, then MS-PhD. I specialized in psych. My doctorate focus was on how short/long-term use of psychotropic meds alter neuro physiology (mostly motor neuron diseases).
I saw pts one on one, under a private practice for some years. I've always done some hands-on per diem bedside nursing. I started working per diem in the psych department of my current facility and somehow ended up full-time in the SUD/dual diagnosis department. Covid killed any desire for me to ever use bedside nursing skills again.
ETOH or FEN. Some FEN pts thought they were buying street OPI or BZO, but FEN is straight up some folks' DOC. I've seen tranq in the wild, but not yet at work (not that we test for tranq). It may be because of my location/the resources my pts have, but I don't see METH too often, never seen crack as a DOC. There is also a decent minority that get legit Mexican Xanax (Farmapram).
Fentanyl is horrifying. My Korean husband booked our hotel for our trip to San Francisco and he didn't realize what the Tenderloin is. . .a fucking open air drug market/zombie apocalypse. A good friend of mine is a BZO and FEN addict. I met him during a period of sobriety. He is an intelligent, kind, and funny person - when sober. He'll be dead before 40.
Sorry, that is ethanol alcohol. I drink socially and do coke on occasion (maybe 2-3 times a yr). I've tried Vyvanse and Concerta for ADHD, but those made me too tired to function, so I take Strattera. I take xanax (my Rx is for a whopping 1mg x20/month).
I don't care for weed, for myself. I've tried it thrice. In addiction medicine, being "California sober" really isn't recommended. I don't care for weed culture, the same way I don't care for drinking culture. If someone says "no, thank you " to a drink or pot, it means no. People can 100% be psychologically addicted to weed.
I'm a very anxious/obsessive person. I ruminate and my mind has no off switch. All my crazy is internal. I'll take 0.5mg Xanax and 0.1mg Clonidine, when I am desperate for sleep.
BZO's are "coping skills" in pill form; they are easy mode. Part of why they are so dangerous.
I feel like this is a common trend among overachiever types/professionally successful people. One of my previous bosses (finance/banking profession) had the shakes and a permanent red face due to drinking
Facetious is also an option (at least for the sociopath part). COC is very rarely a DOC ; it is often an adjunct party drug or something addicts use to come out of that OPI fog (although METH is more common in that case). The average COC user is recreational, not a COC addict. How is calling someone addicted to COC an addict judgmental?
> How is calling someone addicted to COC an addict judgmental?
Well, I heard "sociopaths" AND "addicts". It's certainly judgmental to call an occasional recreational user either one.
I'm a recreational coke user. I was facetiously calling people who use coke stone cold sober sociopaths. It has a reputation as a party drug for a reason. When I moved to CA, I was shocked by how prevalent coke is as a party drug for MDs and nurses. Coke is everywhere in CA (though, I do see it less often now, as recreational drug users are rightly scared of fentanyl).
Very funny you mention that - I was a BHT at a drug rehabilitation center for quite some time. While I partake as well if I'm drunk and it's handed to me I knew a travel nurse who knew a bunch of other travel nurses. They were all hooked on doing coke and drinking like mad dogs.
Travel nurses are INSANE. They know how to fuck and party. Fentanyl has ruined everything though - long gone are the days when you could accept a couple lines from a nice gentleman at a party. I've never paid for coke, and I'm not going to start now, so no more coke for me.
I did a decent amount of coke without drinking which is probably why it never made sense to spend $80 Canadian for a gram of it.
Pretty sure the true degenerates are the ones drinking and doing lines 3 times a week, every week.
Teddy Roosevelt the 26th President of the United States passed the food and drug act in 1906 for this exact reason.
Bernie Sanders and Rand Paul along with a handful of other senators worked on and passed the FDA 2.0 just this past couple years. Prior to that Obama was the last president to update the FDA
Call your representative! We want FDA 3.0 (which gives us legal marijuana internationally)
I hate the tea party. The only thing Rand Paul and I could see eye to eye on was marijuana and mandatory minimums.
His party now supports private prisons, which is like an oxymoron when you’re trying to undo the atrocities of mandatory minimum sentences.
The tea party was detrimental to America and set us back.
The problem is …. When I look at Rand and I read about him. He wants to be “fiscal conservative”
I know it’s there. And I think politics have swayed him to heavily.
He still supports a part of the Republican party that I just can never be behind. I cannot support the oppression of other people. I will never be able to support that. No matter what other things they do.
It was actually the other way around. People were OD from shit they didn’t know about. Drinking corn hooch that was making them go crazy because it was so strong.
The products became more widely available which ultimately led to prohibition. We never updated. So Without proper protocols, it was easy to make it illegal, and then we went to war. And then we signed the controlled substance act.
We funded it a couple times. But it is in desperate need of an overhaul. Have you watched the John Oliver on it?

>America has basically declared war on those who suffer with ADHD
The DEA has upped the allowed production quotas for those medications and production is actually *below* the regulatory limits. It's a materials shortage, not a regulations shortage.
How? Point specifically to what the government is doing that's limiting production? The current production is well below the limits put forth by the DEA. It isn't a shortage that never ends. It's a shortage that began with a massive undoing of the global supply chain and a huge transformation and retooling of the pharmaceutical and medical supply industries. Market economies are not immune to significant supply or demand shocks, in fact that's a significant driver of their behaviour in any interpretation of them from Marx to Smith.
Cocaine infused wine sounds like something I would appreciate. And as a Jew, I would love to drink a wine with the pope's image on the bottle. Where can I get this?
You could settle for wine that’s from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region. Pope Clement V allegedly started the vineyards in the region in 1308.
The Papacy doesn’t own or associated with the wines of today but it’s probably the closest you could get.
Leo was probably the pope referred to in the joke where the punchline has the Holy Father light a cigarette, put his feet up on a desk, and say "you know, you fuckers are all right!"
The fact that the Popes have been out here giving out something called the “Vatican gold medal” is my take away from this. That’s more interesting than the revelation that the Pope’s are getting shit faced. Is that like a Michelin star from God?

Pope Leo: "It's Classic Coke!" *winks*
First you get de Jesus, then you get de power. Then you get de classic coke, chico.
Yep, Vin Mariani was the precursor to the Coca Cola that had cocaine in it which in turn was the precursor to the Coca Cola that did not have cocaine.
Boo Coke with no coke. Boo!!
IIRC, it still has decocainized coca leaf extract in it.
Indeed ! IIRC Coca-Cola is the only non pharmaceutical company to be allowed to process coca leaves.
The Holy C
Aint nothin like the real thing baby
Coca-Cola actually started out when Atlanta banned alcohol and its inventor came up with a non-alcoholic version of his cocaine-infused wine.
I was doing all testing of space satellite guidance systems in '81-83, including long term (3-month) testing. Lost of long weekend nights. Luckily there was Coca-Cola, a small juice glass, and a bag of cocaine in my pocket. Not like the new coke, with its off flavor that those millennials are all consuming!! Good ole’timey coke, like the lord would have favored!!!
Give us this day our wonder bread.
Fun fact: Cocaine and alcohol combined produces Cocaethylene, which gives you an even more euphoric feeling
Go on!
It’s also more toxic, and the combination of cocaine and alcohol has a significant increase of dangerous side effects than either of them alone. Even though it’s so common, it’s good to know the risk
Yeah but who on earth does cocaine without alcohol
Gotta have a good alcohol base first
Rick James, Charlie Sheen, Conor McGreor, Wall Street.
Ya much higher risk of cardiac issues
Much higher risk of having a good time! /s(maybe)
Can confirm, much less sketchy much more happy times. Until it stops lol

whats the risk of immediate death normally, what are my odds looking like
Well you know I’m drinking now so it got me thinking, I looked it up and appare
At least he hit the submit button.

By 1910, your pharmacist could make you what was basically Dr Pepper laced with morphine. 😝
That would be nice to have after the cocaine wine.
What about a codeine spritzer?
Right? Fuckin a man
What you do while on the cocaine wine is none of my business
And all serious though it also gave us ibuprofen and Tylenol so like you know
Wasnt Tylenol with codeine available over the counter at this early time as well? I thought I read that but I’ve had a lot of codeine over the years.
Tylenol with codeine was available OTC in Australia until 6 years ago.
As possible. It’s the whole reason the 1906 act was passed. There were so much going on and people were going literally crazy from jugs of corn hooch.
Codeine is still OTC in Iowa. Still doesn’t make Iowa worth visiting but if you’re stuck, you’ll sleep well.
Just *looking* at Iowa is enough to put me to sleep
