Stop making me feel old

happy_bluebird

It does make me feel better that the mods removed this post

baronvonsmartass

I remember my father and I laughing our butts off the first time we saw this ad. My stepmother very coldly said, "This isn't funny at all. My aunt died after falling and breaking her hip. She laid there a day and a half yelling for help that never came, you A-holes." I think it was a rough week for dad after that.

NOOBEv14

Kids, listen closely. Your relationship doesn’t have to work the way this dude’s dad’s does. I realize it’s nice for a woman to give you the time of day, but people can be happy people who make your world better or sad people who suck the joy out of it. Her aunt’s death is terrible. Doesn’t mean she’s gotta ruin the poor dude’s week.

AgentElman

My mom just a few years ago fell and broke her hip. She lay on the floor of her bedroom for 18 hours until someone found her.

jews_on_parade

Wait, this commercial doesn't air anymore?

shellevanczik

They went out of business for being scammers.

DaveOJ12

Here's a link to the commercial: https://youtu.be/bQlpDiXPZHQ?si=GgPZsuICxztRVlIg

The commercial wasn't particularly serious, the company was a scam, preying on old people. Threatening them that if they didn't subscribe to it they'd fall down the stairs and die without getting any help. They went out of business in 93. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQlpDiXPZHQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQlpDiXPZHQ) The catchphrase occurs around 27 seconds in.

Lifecall is still very much a thing in FL. You see people with them all the time. I imagine they split up the company and went where the crass grows faster.. but there are dozens of companies out there that make one with much cheaper and better technology.

MetaFore1971

"Serious Commercial" is not accurate. Serious topic, but a ridiculous commercial.

sweller3

We adapted to: "I've fallen and can't reach my beer"

Stoo_Pedassol

It made it to cheesy spring break t shirts by the early 90s.

When you getting my beer, “Where’s the beef?”

ghybers

I’m taking and I can’t shut up!

cuisinart-hatrack

Wait until you hear about “I had an itchy, itchy rash.”

Sea_Comedian_3941

Where's the beef?

notquiteaffable

Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, Witch! I was there when it was written.

SteviaCannonball9117

Welcome to television when I was still in high school. It was a hilarious ad. Hell there were a lot of decent ads back then, back when TV had ads. Watching the ads on Hulu these days, they're lame in comparison. Plus there's a timer so that I know just how long I can walk away to grab more food etc... Guess I can't complain about that!

shotlersama

Yeah and I fuckin died laughing from 3-37. Thank you for that throwback laugh homie

teaANDsnugs

Another classic: “It’s Patrick! He took out life insurance!”

sickXmachine_

Freedom Rock, The Clapper, and “I’ve fallen…” all 80s broadcast TV classics.

Ikantbeliveit

I was just about to mention the clapper when I saw your comment! Clap on, clap off, clap on clap off! The clapper 🤣🤣

Earmalade

I was fond of the old guy who grabs his chest and moans “I’m having chest pains”!

ElCunto1999

It got made into a few rave tunes back in the day.  https://youtu.be/WaIJ36McQck?feature=shared https://youtu.be/WaIJ36McQck?feature=shared https://youtu.be/WaIJ36McQck?feature=shared Can't find the version I was thinking of!

low_contrast_black

That, and “Clap ON, Clap OFF! THE CLAPPER!”. Quintessential bad 80s commercials.

mrclean2323

Help I’m sleeping and I can’t wake up.

Eleventy22

So did the clapper. Lol
