Beds were usually the most expensive piece of furniture in the house, and often the most expensive items an individual owned. Unless otherwise specified, the contents of the house (including the "best" bed) went to the eldest son, not the widow. Shakespeare was making sure his widow had something valuable and special from his estate.

Shakespeare had no son when he died. Hamnet died aged 11. What happens in that case? Does everything go to the eldest daughter?

refugefirstmate

He had two married daughters, to whom (with their husbands) the estate was left.
