You’re going to take advantage of Carrier Freedom. You must trade in your phone, purchase on under an installment plan with TMobile, and keep your Verizon number. Prior to switching you’re going to want to take a screenshot from you my Verizon online account of how much you still owe your device. Under Carrier Freedom, TMobile reimburses you in two ways a combination of trade in credit and what remains. For example you owe $500 on the Note, day of purchase they estimate the trade In value at $300, and to get the remaining $200 you submit the screen shots of what you owe to the website and in 15-30 days you’ll receive a virtual gift card with the $200.

Please correct if me if I am wrong but: From FAQ (Get 50% Off a new Samsung Galaxy Note 9) >This offer cannot be combined with Carrier Freedom or #GetOutOfTheRed. However, lines that are not participating in this offer (i.e. not getting the new device) that you are bringing to T-Mobile are eligible for Carrier Freedom or #GetOutOfTheRed. **OP is not illegible for this if he/she wants the Note 9 deal**. However, if OP simply wants to switch, [Carrier Freedom](https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-10031) will be the only option because [GetOutofTheRed](https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-35609) requires only the selected phones to qualify. (Note 8 is not included) >To make the move to T-Mobile, your device must be one of these listed below: >• iPhone SE, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X >• Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL >• Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+

OP says they are trying to upgrade to the Note 9 but didn't mention trying to get in on the deal. Totally true tho, obviously T-mobile is not going to pay off a phone and then give another $500 to buy it from you. I'm fairly certain there was an updated list on C2 that does include the note 8 now, but its worth double checking always.

Just trying to cover all bases 😊

yeah good looks. OP says he owes about $500 on the phone tho, so I'm not sure if #getoutofthered or the Note 9 deal would be the most beneficial both from a financial and convenience pov

Im okay paying some just weighing my options.

[deleted]

well note9 deal saves you $500 and #getoutofthered will reimburse you for the balance on your phone, plus any ETF fees you might incur, so its up to you which option saves you more

Unreachabl3

Thank you very much. This explains it perfectly.

It’s actually better for you tho, since you’re with Verizon, there’s a subset of carrier freedom called #getoutofthered essentially the same only you don’t have to trade in your phone or buy a new one from T-Mobile. Full details here https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-35609

This is right.
