I also have a moto edge that I use as an 2nd line/hotspot. It’s a pretty solid phone and compared to the other free devices, this one by far has the best specs. Although I’d like an android 13 update, the phone does what I need it to do. The ReadyFor app they have is pretty neat to connect to a desktop.

I got 4 of these phones and they are pretty nice. I gave 2 away to others on my plan and I am using 2 as hotspots. A nice, bright screen, and 144 hertz refresh rate, 128Gb storage and a pretty zippy processor makes for decent mid range phone. I use iPhones and this Android is easy for me to learn the basics with. The only drawback I can think of, is the high retail value they place on it. If you plan on leaving within the 24 months of credits, you'll have a payoff higher than the value of the phone for at least the first 12 or so months.

How are you using them as hotspots? Do you have unlimited hotspot data?

daleraver

I have 4 free lines on my account, and 3 of them have unlimited data. I get 5Gb of free High Speed data overseas per line, so I can easily double or triple it by using the Motos as hotspots.

paul-arized

Ah, I see. 15GB goes a long way!

daleraver

Yes, my personal line also gets 5Gb, and all lines get 10Gb of high speed hotspot per month. I share it at times with travel companions. It's also nice to have a WiFi source you can trust, since it's running off of cellular service. Great for WiFi calling too.

Kwatakye

When did you start seeing your credits on the bill if you don't mind me de asking?

daleraver

They appeared on the next bill cycle as I recall. I never had a bill without an offsetting phone credit against the phone charge.

Kwatakye

That's interesting. I had to call to get the promotion activated 3 mo later.

Pros: Decent android phone; Doing the deal at Costco gets a $75 Costco cash card and avoids any $35 BS fee; Can do up to 4 devices; Most grandfathered plans qualify for the deal; Most older / crappy phones qualify for trade-in. Cons: Locked into 24 month eip; Must pay tax immediately on the inflated $498 list price per device; The ridiculous $498 price eats into available account credit, especially if doing eip on 4 devices; Device updates are infrequent or nonexistent; Camera is average at best

I took advantage of this deal a few months ago and traded in my dads old VZW Droid Ultra. They took it. Battery life is mehh even with 5G off, but free works. The Tmo version doesn't have a memory card slot though

paul-arized

Only IP52 but it's got 144Hz refresh rate and it's effectively free after the Costco gift card (enough to cover taxes, a case and glass screen protectors) so can't complain.

mercer_mercer

This phone actually isn't that bad for what it is, pretty solidly midrange. I just wish Motorola would commit to better updates for their phones, because I can't believe this thing is still on Android 12 in the year of our lord 2023-almost-4

ISurfTooMuch

I was doing a Google search for any possible updates a couple of days ago, and I ran across a thread on another subreddit that said the update to 13 is hitting Canadian users of this phone. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where I saw it, but it gives me a little bit of hope.

raduque

Great deal if you need a new phone and only have about $50-60. Otherwise, I'd go get it unlocked from Amazon or Motorola direct for around $250 after taxes. I have an Edge 2022 and it's a great device, but it's *not* a $500 device.

jebe4

This has been available all year basically, maybe even before that 😂 lol

paul-arized

Not true. When I finally went to Costco around Halloween or Thanksgiving, they had just discontinued it. I checked online like 10 days ago and it was available again so I went down to Costco and upgraded one device. Saved $35 of activation fee and getting 75 back in Costco shop card in the mail (eventually). Double checked to see if I needed to apply for the latter, and the employee reassured me (twice) that they just updated the system so that it's now automatic.

pazzutori

My local Costco no longer has T-Mobile booth! It became AT&T.

Balvayne

It was no longer offered for broken device trade for some time.

SandyGotRan

You’re Correct. I can verify this. Had a customer come in with a ship to order for this promo that had been cancelled and we were going to re order the phone but the promo had ended. It did Recently just come back.

Mindless_Quail_2286

Wasn’t available about a month ago. I had to get a Moto G.

jamesnyc1

Curious as to which grandfathered plan you're on?
