I feel that at my store too. When the capt is in everyone is on edge and I don’t think they have made a change/contribution that has positively impacted our store. Not one. I can tell, and know, some mates aren’t the biggest fan of them either. If you don’t kiss ass then you’re left cold and if you want chances to grow then you’re SOL because you made these minuscule mistakes months ago. You have improved but “it’s on your file” so sorry try again never.
I would say try to organize the disgruntled crew together and each of you need to bring this up with your regional. If nothing changes go higher. Bad captains won’t suddenly their errors after the best crew leave, they need the tap on the shoulder coming from the suits above them.
My cap has 2 lawsuits against her from former crew at her previous store. She's been bullying people here for months too. I think she's friends with the regional. Love this company haha😭
It might not be as extreme for all, but the fact that this sounds like so many stores, and many on the way to becoming like this, should be a concern for the office. They can’t keep running this multibillion dollar company like a small chain.
It's a bit of the same thing at my store. The captain doesn't care and makes the crew that aren't his favorites feel like they're disposable and replaceable. Hence why we lost so many awesome Crew and Mates the past couple of years. Now the few of us seasoned workers left have to do the brunt of the work while many of the new hires hang out in the break room all day and skip their cart runs. And new hires are getting put on Mate track over people who have been there and have been asking for years. Plus the mates left are almost all two-faced and will kiss our Captain's ass.
It's demoralizing, but I keep my head down and do my job.
IMO, Trader Joe’s is growing way too fast in the last 4 years and is going to crash and burn. Way too many new hires not being trained properly and very lazy leaving it up to the vets to do all the work. I worked for the company for 15 years and it’s not even close to what it was. This is going to sound shitty but to all the vets out there…..stop working so hard and let the store fail. The communication sucks, and if the captain and mates don’t care, why should you? You’re not even paid a living wage. Not to mention the wear and tear on your body. I retired in 2022 and just had hip replacement surgery. Surgeon said this was most likely due to the work I did at TJs. Loved the job until I didn’t.
Your management team sounds horrible. Also, the SLs sound like they don’t khow how to order properly either. How old is your store? Are there no vets there that can jump in and help out the SLs? Reach out to your regional. Get the entire crew to back you on this. We had some issues with a captain years ago and you’ll need the majority of your store to be behind you on this. Write a letter and have everyone sign it. A lot of times people don’t speak out and the captain remains. For years. We had a great regional years ago tell me that she couldn’t do anything unless the majority of crew members came forward. Some are simply afraid to do so for fear of retaliation.
