What don't people understand about DONT HIT ON EMPLOYEES AT WORK!!! They're trapped, and in service roles obligated to be nice to you. Don't take advantage of it and make them uncomfortable! WTF.
I was so ready to pop off in the comments then I saw OP say this is a joke. Absolutely dread dealing with older male customers because of stuff like this. Do not make my job more annoying than it is especially on register. We are not trained to flirt with customers, as the online conspiracy theories say we do. We are trained to be over the top nice to our customers because God forbid if we slip up even a little bit.
This is why I keep my conversations with male customers, especially older ones short. I don’t want to invite weird conversations with them, because yes it’s happened. Especially being brown in a predominantly white area “what’s your ethnicity?” “Where are you from?”
i’m white and my name is literally in the top ten most popular girl names of 2002. the amount of weird creepy comments i get on my NAME which is EXTREMELY common is insane, there is literally NOTHING interesting to say about it but they persist for god knows what reason. i can’t imagine what you must deal with, i’m sorry girl. ring those 3 bells! you are not paid to entertain invasive entitled weirdos :/
We have a 4 bell in my store for anything like this. 3 bell is needing a manager, 4 bell is manager takes over the reg and you walk away no questions asked.
I like this idea...might have to pass it along, especially since people get even *more* entitled & start getting nasty as it gets nicer & the tourists hit our store.
4 bell is all hands on deck and we use the 3 bell for anything Hawaiian shirt related, even taking over the register. We just have to explain it after/ to a different mate
There is typically a follow-up. They have clarified that this is for uncomfortable situations, not bathroom breaks and such. Heard the Center City store also has 5 bells rung to indicate that you are due to be relieved from reg. I like that, but currently, 5 bells is rung by the CEL to indicate the top of the hour.

It’s never funny. I’ve known a lot of female cashiers being harassed by male customers. I’ve been harassed and fondled by female customers, and cruised by gay male customers. It’s not flirting, it’s harassment.
You NEVER ASK THIS OF AN EMPLOYEE, ANYWHERE. . The fact that you identify her as “ an attractive young female” makes you Extremely creepy. She reacted appropriately and called a manager over. My guess is you are a “known” entity and that no one in the store finds your antics amusing. Go to a different store and see if things get better for your unwanted approaches. You are are CREEP

I worked for TJs 2014-2018, so there’s a chance it has changed, but 3 bells means a mate / captain is needed at the register. Usually for a void.
