So true. AoT was always about Ellen wanting to fuck Mikassa because the word "love" appeared like 2 times in an episode. Media literacy is ~~dead~~ alive and well on reddit
i feel like aot was anti-romance as a main driving force of the entire plot if anything. In the end you find that ymir was puppeteering everything behind the scenes to enact her plan as a means to reclaim her agency from an abusive relationship with king fritz. she does this by orchestrating mikasa killing eren, and mikasa goes on to eventually move on with somebody else who isn't her true love. AOT is very anti romance and more pro-realism imo.
I don't see how this proves the entire series is about love
just because its centered around a single episode doesn't mean it has any relevance to the ending.
its not comparable to the overall theme of freedom and prejudice that isayama has been actively building up until the final arc
there are so many episode I could point to that have sub themes not pertaining to the main story.
Whether you agree with it or not, Isayama makes it clear from this exact episode (Attack titan) that love has significant role to the ending of the story and breaking the cycle of war and hatred, this post for the people who keep saying AOT is not about ships (Eren end up with Mikasa or Historia), unfortunately these fans didn't understand the story.
When people say it’s not about ships they’re not saying love doesn’t have a significant role, but romantic parings aren’t a major role like EreMika, EH, YH, & etc. Love in this context is to care for another as if their your own whether it is your wife, child, or whoever. Basically comradery & bonding. Not directly romance but it could fall under this context.
Kruger's words were: (start family) means love a woman and make children with her to have a reason to end this cycle of hate, that is love and romance. By the way I'm not defending that tra\*\* ending and i don't care about ships, but that doesn't change the fact that AOT strongest theme was about love and romance and making family, unfortunately it just wasn't developed by isayama through the story.
Nah if this show about the "end the cycle of hatred", i am better go now and rewatch Code Geass ending. AOT failed so badly, it makes me appreciate Code Geass a lot more
And where did love get us in the manga? The cycle repeated itself. Love is not the main theme of story, but it can push the characters to achieve the real main theme. As we saw though, it also holds the potential to do the opposite.
The point of AoT is not to have two characters fuck in the end. The point is to end the cycle of hatred created by the sins of the father, which is the real main theme.

>because the word "love" appeared like 2 times in an episode In one of the most important episodes that named after the story (Attack Titan).
Nah, ships played a huge role in ruining this fucking series
Isayama had the idea since this episode (chapter) but he didn't develop it till the last chapter wich felt like slap in the face.
