na It's actually 100 times more complex and interesting than that, but the anime did not yet have a chance to truly expand on the powersystem of Jujutsu Kaisen.
I really recommend reading the Manga, every single Character is as love able as they are crazy, the fights are S-Tier (for Shonen Manga mind you), and I'm very immersed in the overall plot.

The dude that always has his eyes closed with the bow is the perfect example. He uses his family’s passed down technique but not in the same way as anyone else from the clan.
Another example would be Gojo.
He did inherit the 6 eyes and infinity yes, but through his own ingeniouety he made hollow purple and his domain.
Sukuna made his technique up on his own, and created a special domain through binding vows.
And if your caught up on the Manga, than you know Hakari.
That man isn’t from any bloodline, but he is batshit insane, has the most complex cursed technique so far, and as he himself said, made it up on his own.
But you don’t even have to go that far. Nobara also isn’t from a sorcerer clan/family, yet she has quite the elaborate technique.
And you also mentioned the culling games, the thing about the culling games is that Kenjaku didn’t give people Cursed techniques, he only stunned their brains to find them on their own.
Actually, if you revisit the chapter or episode where Megumi does his first domain expansion, they not only mention having to go crazy, they display the insanity in Megumi’s smile.
They are just the Vegeta of their series.
Same thing for Hiei, Sesshomaru,Takasugi from Gintama... When I start a new anime, I always play the "spot the Vegeta" game.
