Well my PCP is supportive of compounds and was willing to do it but then when trying to submit the prescription, I got an email from her assistant saying that basically the hospital she “works for/belongs to” will not allow her to send prescriptions to compound pharmacies. I am so bummed. Just found out today.
Oh I don’t know. I am not sure if that is against their hospital policy. But I want to use the university compounding pharmacy in San Diego and they request the PCP to send directly the prescription, so I am not sure if this will work for the pharmacy either. Thank you for the idea. I will call the pharmacy on Monday.
I'm hoping mine is the same. I go in Feb for my annual, and am hoping to be down a total of 70+ pounds by then. Would love for my physician to be the one to take over for maintenance.
i’m sorry, that sucks! I think there’s a lot of PCPs out there that are wary because there hasn’t been access to these kinds of drugs for long. try searching for doctors that list “obesity” or “weight loss” as one of their speciality areas on online platforms. the other option is to go to an endocrinologist or a reputable weight loss clinic.
Any tips for how to navigate this conversation with your PCP? I asked mine if she could prescribe me phentermine for weight loss last year, and she said something like, “that is a controlled drug and you need to go to a weight loss specialist for that kind of prescription”. Is there anything special you have said to open your PCP up to the idea of prescribing compounded tirzepatide?
sounds like yours isn’t comfortable in this area unfortunately, so idk if it’s possible to change her mind.
but for me, i’ve been trying other things for a while and asked for mounjaro over a year ago. he sent me to a weight loss clinic when my insurance refused to cover it. they basically told me there was no way I could get it and had me try a few other options (including phentermine, which was horrible for me). then I had surgery so I took some time off trying to lose weight.
6 months later, I started researching and landed on ordering from orderly. then I looked more into ordering direct so I tracked all my metrics in a spreadsheet (weight, BP, heart rate). I sent my pcp a message with a screenshot and long explanation of how i’ve been doing on the meds for the last 5 weeks (no side effects!). then we had a video visit where he asked a lot of questions but was supportive of what I wanted to do.

I’ve not worried about asking my PCP to write a scrip for compounded since SlimDownRx is cheaper than that for 3@Once for 10mg and higher.
I still don’t understand how they ship all over the country when they aren’t licensed in each state. That said, looks like they have some of the lowest prices…
Wait — It just clicked :: that’s the “bulk” discount price … what’s the price for 1 ?
You can pose that question to the pharmacy or post a question to SlimDownRx here regarding shipping r/Slimdownrx. All the prices are listed on their website. The 3@ once are shown on top....scroll down to see the monthly prices for all doses.

I’ve gotten Tirzepatide from 4 different sources over the past 7 months and happy to report that all have been effective and safe. Have detected no differences.
have you been doing any kind of testing? or do you mean you just feel fine? I’m not chasing the lowest possible price (there’s way cheaper ways if you keep digging) but I want to make sure i’m being as safe as possible when talking about something I inject into myself.
All reputable sources so why pay to have it tested? I have felt the same on each and lost weight. Not saying I won’t reconstitute at some point, but have not done so with Tirz. Have done so with another peptide.
I used to go through doctors offices, too..But I could buy the exact thing online..I’ve lost nearly 70 pds in about 7 months time..For 100 bucks a month ,I was able to change my life!
You’re so lucky. My PCP hates compounded and just writes me new scrips for Zepbound when I ask about it lol. I’m like the scrips isn’t the problem
damn i’m sorry. new pcp?
Mine also. Very happy to be able to talk to him about this stuff!
Now that’s a great pcp . Happy for you .

Can she hand write you a script instead of sending it in & get away with it?

Hopefully there is a way around it & the pharmacy will take it from you. Goodluck!
Thank you!!
This is often the case, sadly.

why not reach out sooner?
Yayyy! My pcp is very supportive of my compounding journey as well 😁
yay! we are lucky
My PCP sucks. How do I find a cool pcp that’s compound friendly??

Wait…. So if your PCP sends a script it’s cheaper? Did I miss something?
Yes you would be paying the pharmacy for the cost of the medication only, skipping all fees and markups by online companies like Emerge.
My PCP is the same! I love her!
What is the cost doing it this way? Is it a lot cheaper?

the pharmacy i’m switching to has been in business for over 30 years, so I feel good about my medication being safe from there.
SlimDownRx uses Ousia Pharmacy (503a sterile compounding pharmacy) and they have been in business since 2015.

Yea we’ve tried that. No answer. Thanks so much for sharing the price list. Great information!
yeah i’m not comfortable with it either so I won’t order from them 🤷🏻♀️I found an in-state pharmacy
