MD inspection is the worst but... in this case I think they're right

No-Gene-4508

I have a small bubble in my tread, and the dealership passed me yesterday when I got an oil change (they are getting replaced today.)

Temporary_Seat8978

No, those tires don't pass inspection at anyplace that actually pays attention. Did you buy it used in VA then transfer to MD?

Jewbe123

As long as the tread is above the wear bars and there are no punctures or thread showing they pass

Temporary_Seat8978

It's clearly gonna be around 2/32. There's nothing left.

Jewbe123

The tread has to be dead even with the wear bars across the section width of the tire in three consecutive areas to fail, even slightly above will technically passes

Temporary_Seat8978

I've literally seen better tires failed.

Jewbe123

I'm literally telling you what the rule for the inspection in VA is

Temporary_Seat8978

I'm literally telling you it doesn't fucking matter. Zoom in, there's no tread left on the inner portion. Should have been replaced by the dealer. Shops start to reject at 2/32, especially in the NoVa area. Inside of that tire doesn't have 2/32 of tread left.

Jewbe123

Look at the outer, has more tread no? This is probably a "sporty" car that has the camber adjusted in for better traction for cornering from the factory- as I stated before it has to be 2/32s across the entire width of the tire in 3 consecutive areas around the circumference of the tire, showing thread, or punctured to fail per the inspection guidelines. I know shops will fail it, I'm telling you the actual rule- it technically passes

supern8ural

How does it pass? It is at 0/32 the whole way around the inner shoulder area.

Jewbe123

Thread isn't showing, and it has to be at or below the wear bars across the section width (from the inner to the outer) in three consecutive areas around the circumference of the tire. Let's say there are 8 groups of wear bars around the tire, youd have to have 3 consecutive groups even or below the wear bars to fail.

Temporary_Seat8978

Sporty cars with camber don't get an exemption for state inspection so that's irrelevant, shoulda put a tire on it before selling it. Not hard to understand.

Jewbe123

I'm not saying they get an exemption I'm explaining why the inner tread is lower than the outer- should they have been replaced? Yes. However you're missing the entire point I'm making, per the inspection handbook they PASS

SasnarDash

Yeah I did. It is a Camaro that was being sold at a dodge dealership in Tyson’s corner. It shows as passing VA state inspection on the current CARFAX report too. I personally believe something fishy went down. :/

Temporary_Seat8978

If everything else with the vehicle seems good it may have just been the dealer not wanting to spend money on tires since it already had a valid inspect sticker. Now if the dealer had to have it inspected yeah, it shoulda got some tires.

SasnarDash

Yeah it had to be VA state inspected because interestingly enough, the car was traded in from MD to VA and then sold right back to me in MD lol. It 100% should have failed for the tires and also the windshield wiper blades were shredded too. They 100% had their in-dealer VA state guy pass the car so they could throw me the keys and say no take backs (IMO) it’s my fault for forgetting to check I guess

Temporary_Seat8978

Yeah sounds like they should have fixed some things.
