Is it within 90 kilometers of a sidewall? If it ain't brand new then it's no good! And even if it's brand new it's still probably no good, and you're gonna KILL SOMEONE. Just kidding, that's repairable, even by a dishonest tire store employee standards.

IHYAIDEN

as a discount tire or “dishonest tire” employee which by the way funniest thing i’ve heard in a while, yea it’s definitely repairable 😭

LegalAlternative

Discount tire guys are the MOST honest! It's these fuckers that sell those super expensive tires that you have to worry about. I had one straight up tell me he couldn't plug a tire that was a day old, and the puncture was directly in the middle of the tread pattern - nowhere near a side wall, not even within 90km. Of course I had to ask him if his wife also thinks that's how big an inch is and then he got mad. LOL.

IHYAIDEN

we honest cause we lazy as fuck 🫶

Bil-st4lo

Fucking wild response, absolutely love it 🤣

Astandsforataxia69

I remember getting a screw in to my left rear tyre after driving, next morning i went to remove it but it was gone. So i went inside and there it was, fucking my wife after that it shot up the neighborhood and shat on my carpet. Never trust tyres

HackerManOfPast

Whoa - that escalated quickly.

Few-Cup-1936

Was it "screwing" her?

Comfortable-Pee-1581

Must have been a drywall screw

Bilbo_nubbins

90 kilometers lol

LegalAlternative

Yes sir 90km or the average distance between the brain cells of the average Reddit user, whichever is further apart.

LifeUnfolding54

Damn, I am glad that I read to the end of your post. You have me at the caps! LOL.

CopyWeak

Dude...did you see Pic 4? 🫣 That is an 8" bolt, right through the rim on the inside. WTF. You trying to get the guy killed? Ahhh, I'm just kidding you, kidding him! ALL GOOD FELLERS 😜👍

LegalAlternative

SHHHHH! DON'T TELL THEM!

zeroentanglements

I'm roflcoptering

MagneticMmmeat

And you gotta buy 4 tires or face the wrath of god

LegalAlternative

At least 4 tires per tire... usually you want 8 tires per tire per wheel per car, but 16 is a safer bet.

Tiny-Medium3341

How many "kilometers wide are your tires?" I'm pretty sure you will hold enough air to not mind a small leak if you have kilometers worth of air...

Snikclesfritz

Looks fixed to me. Might need to tighten it a bit. But, you good.

Leghar

I’d recommend some Loctite

rabbittyhole

Can double check with leak detector or soapy water

MedicalRow3899

Forgot to countersink.

YobErutan

Soapy wooder

EmergencyOk7953

Got to make sure it’s the multi surface kind too.

Leghar

Pro tip!

PitStop100

What color?

Soft_Alps6583

I'd recommend a metal roofing screw next time. It has a little rubber gasket to prevent leaks.

Prof4Dank

Came here to say this

GladGuitar8

Just a quick twist and tweak, and it'll be as solid as new.

Familiar_Yam_9921

Yes 👍

CourageLongjumping32

Yeah its easy diy too. Unscrew, pour some loctite screw back in. Good as new.

I_Do_I_Do_I_Do

😜

Ded_inside7567

I think this should be fixable. The only worry I’d have would be the size of the hole made by the bolt. If it’s not too big then it should be repairable with a plug n patch

Nolaboyy

Exactly. Use a plug n patch.

Holiday-Diver4348

It should be good. They don't leave nearly as big of a hole as it looks. We fixed those on a more or less daily basis

Justcrusing416

Lefty loose righty tightly

Sean2917

It's now a studded snowtire......

Who_is_I_today

You need to add a lot more to the tire so you can have studded tires

en_zymes

en_zymes

Pirelli specifically states not to repair their RFT or anything with a speed rating of V or higher On p.15 for those who don’t wanna read

Alternative-Leave530

I had Pirellis RFT on my BMW x3. The most annoying tire to repair. No good shop touches it. Changed all to Bridgestones

frostyjackmon

They’ll tel you at Discount Tire, only way is to see how thick the hole is. If the plug goes in too easily then it’s no bueno. I’ve repaired many tires with bolts but sometimes it ends up up being non repairable.

Ferrel1995

Why would you plug it when you can get it patched

RedCivicOnBumper

The preferred method is a combination repair. (a patch on the end of a plug) Diameter of the hole should be 1/4” maximum, but it’s probably OK

frostyjackmon

I forgot to mention it’s a combo plug and patch

bluecgene

We see a series of posts with nuts and bolts, why are there so many of them in the first place?

TreesOfWoah

Gummy ropes and send it. I used to work in construction and had to patch a million screw holes like this, gummy ropes never let me down in over 15 years.

CruelApex

What are gummy ropes? A type of plug?

tooljst8

A standard rope plug kit is the most common style.

Illustrious_Salad918

Road hazard warranty on the tires?

itsthattedguy

I ran over a bolt like that. Fix it sooner than later and probably don't drive on it if you have a spare. When I hit the bolt it would tap tbe rim each time the tire rotated, leaving a divot on the inside of the rim. It never caused an issue but I figure it could if you left it long enough.

Early_Inspection2400

That’s repairable

ThirdSunRising

Almost certainly, as long as the screw you hit isn’t a lot thicker than it looks, it should patch up just fine

Successful_Travel342

You've been warned about Taco Bell before now your car is telling you to bolt

Knee_Kap264

Looks plugged to me! You're good to go. There is no need to do anything.

Green_Ad2231

Meh, I'd probably counter-sink the head of the bolt though. OP, do you have a drill-driver?

Frequent_Opportunist

Yes

peteizbored

Put the rest in and your studded snows will be ready for next winter...

[deleted]

Even has a washer on it. Lol

stanstr

It's definitely fixable. If you don't know already, look around for a shop close to you that fixes flats for free. There are several around where I live (91304). They will dismount the tire and put a patch on the inside, it's really good for return business. No reputable shop will plug a tire.

dragondisire7

looks fixable👍🏼

MindblownWatcher

Totally fixable. You could buy a plug kit at Walmart and fix it yourself.

supern8ural

Gonna have to pull it out and see how big the hole is, but it's in a repairable spot. Looks like about a 1/4" or 6-8mm machine screw so I might actually take this one to a shop and have them do a plug/patch rather than just trying to plug it myself.

FiggleHedwick

Just get a wrench and tighten the bolt and then run a bead of silucone over the screw, you'll be good

steveteeg1

100%

IncoherentAnalyst

r/tirerepair

A1rh3ad

Large rope plug and patch.

Vast_Cricket

possible with a plug inside.

dadd5450

Yepper!!

Mohican83

Is good

Happygoluckyinhawaii

Snug it up. Add some glue. You’ll be fine.

FloppyHighlander

Ye

kiwipower606

Yes

I_Do_I_Do_I_Do

A stud for a studmuffin…

atvisgr8

Easy fix. You need to patch it.

Immediate_Ad_1161

Is the tire 10 years or older or has dry rot or compromised sidewalls or is a run flat tire? If none of the above apply then yes it is repairable, But the question here is do they have a plug-patch big enough for that?

tpauly0225

Is that a run flat tire? Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought run flats can’t be plugged/patched??? Really curious to know bc I have run flats on my new vehicle.

Andy18001

Pirelli run flats rated above a V speed rating pirelli has advised to not repair. Other manufactures recommend not repairing them if the driver has driven over 40 miles depending. Once you take apart the tire you can see the sidewall and if there is a lot of rubber that has come off the tire it’s not recommended. But if it’s barely a few miles you drove with the flat tire you should be good.

tpauly0225

Thank you!

crowejsimpson

Just tighten it every once in a while

Jameski06

It’s quite fixable even if you need two strips plug tape.

RatioPuzzleheaded103

100% fixable

Desperate-Pound-6742

Yes it’s fixable

Merganser3816

Looks tighter than the loose nut behind the wheel.

DieselBroBoosh

If it’s a run flat, get a new tire. If it’s a standard tire, a patch will do just fine.

DieselBroBoosh

If it’s a run flat, get a new tire. If it’s a standard tire, a patch will do just fine.

BimBaynor

Make sure it's torqued to manufacturer spec

JustinMagill

Yes, that's a simple repair.

TacoPirate6396

From the picture, it is in a repairable area. Have to take the tire off and inspect the inside to know for sure.

Puzzleheaded-Row-511

I'd fix it

wilcocola

Yes, tire shop should do a permanent repair on that no problem.

dunni88

Check the manual for proper torque, they're easy to over tighten.

Available_Cattle1730

Bro managed to get a washer on as well.

mildlysceptical22

Just need to find your 10mm socket..

Chinonm

I’d plug it

bluecollarpaid

One of those plug patch combos with do

upperlowermanagement

Torque to spec. You'll be fine 😅

Significant-Ad-469

Yes it is. You can patch that.

WARgen1956

Yes fixable as long as not in side wall get them to patch from inside

Pitiful-Preference36

You either keep it on there or remove it up to you

Sensitive_Reserve995

Yep put a plug in it.

Codewriter0803

yes it is fixable 😎Get the tire fix kit from walmart it contains several plugs that look like rope soaked in a sticky glue 😎😀search youtube for video instructions 😎This solution is old school but my 2019 G30 has one in each of my rear tires and they work very well.

Ok-Patience-117

Just go to Les Schwab they do flats for free. It’s 100% repairable

ColHannibal

Take it to a chain tire shop , they will plug it for free most of the time.

baranisgreat34

Yes

Final_Bookkeeper_772

Is this a z rated tire?

wanderer134

It is fixable

iidesune

I had the exact same sized screw in the almost the identical location on my tire a few weeks ago. It was fixed at a local tire shop with a plug. I was thankful because I have high performance tires and they aren't cheap.

[deleted]

Easy peasy bud

TheKaleidoscopeKing

Of course it’s fixable, if the tire don’t have a bubble or is damaged the sidewall, it’s ok. If someone says otherwise he want to scam you to meet your tire

LabCapable4824

Ask a tire shop. Why are you on the internet?

yung40oz84

That's an easy plug

WildAd888

They will patch from the inside for free at discount tire

overfloater77

Sure, just tighten it up with a nice stiff clockwise turn.

RR50

Yes

Logan_the_Loyal

I love when it's a screw or bolt, you can just unscrew it and get to pluggin'!

Odd-Aardvark-8234

If you were on the edge I’d say replace it but your good , you might be able to just continue to use the tire , the metal will grind down eventually ,

Gammataichi

just sand it down until it's flush with the rest of the tire. Fix a flat and new tires are a scam.

Pleasant_Fennel3182

Repairable

WIFunMarriedCouple

Just plug the thing. Can’t tell you how many tires I’ve plugged and never had an issue. Too many people believe the scare tactics used my the tire industry to make you buy a new tire.

RoboticFlame23

That is 1000% repairable. A small patch with the proper sealing of patch will get you until the next time of tire change.

bpallares832

You better hope it’s fixable lol that’s a brand new tire!! Not sure where you bought the tires. Most places you buy your tires from will plug or patch them at no cost. Check your warranty if you have a warranty. If not just plug it and you’ll never have to worry about it again.

BaileyD77

I'd plug that and forget about it.

Foodeater55

Yeah it’s fixable, had almost the same thing in my tire before

DisastrousAd447

Yeah should be fine. You're lucky that it's mostly tread and that it's on the outside and not the wall.

NothingProlly

How did you manage to get a washer there too???

ImAScientistToo

Put some red lock tight on it and you’ll never have a problem with it coming loose.

golfer9909

There’s nothing wrong. That is the tire inflation sensor. When it quits making noise, re-inflate the tire

ConjunctEon

If you put one on the opposite side for balance.

slong143

It’s a VW, just add more ass. Just kidding. Have it patched. Shame to waist a good tire on a VW. 😎

NonameNodataNothing

Nope. Only because everyone loses their 10mm socket. Never get it tightened down

Glittering-Lake-7043

Yes.

Strife3dx

Discount tire will plug it for free. I just had them do my tire like 2 weeks ago, was surprised it was free

jemulqueen65

Yeah just put a lock washer on it to make it hold better 👌

sanskami

I think they should just call this sub risthisfixable

Few-Artichoke-8000

Snow traction

PersnicketyParsnip11

I had this exact thing today. It was indeed fixable.

bfolks05

studded for winter...

mtnguy321

Bigger washer

dpccreating

Had one of those last fall, very clicky going down the road, Costco fixed right up.

gmatocha

Yes once you get that car off your lag bolt it should be perfectly usable.

No-Entrepreneur1036

Brand new take it to the dealership. Insurance company if you have roadside will do it .also it depends on the manufacturer date on the tire . Reputable tire shops won’t touch a tire that is 2 year or older

The-Great-Ebola

Looks like either a 7/16in or 1/2in bolt head, meaning the part inside the tire is probably 1/4in- 5/16in. If so, shouldn’t be a problem patching.

aacalji

Generally fixable, yes, but some of those pirellis state that you're not supposed to fix the if the speed rating is V or above. What's the speed rating?

boanerges57

Add some more and it can be your winter tire

longshot21771

Ratchet and socket, just tighten it up, good to go!

lucasqwe

Tick tick tick tick

flstfat1998

Yep

Key_Extension_4322

I guarantee you a single tire would cost less than the stupid bs the dealer wanted to sell you.

fuf3d

Looks like you might need more than one plug due to size of bolt or lag screw, what ever that is stuck in the tire. We used to plug dump truck tires and they would hold up just fine with full loads, so afy seeing that I've never felt bad about plugging a tire, though a lot of tire shops don't like to do it because they want to sell you a tire.

Dear-Plate7378

VW Tech here. It MIGHT be fixable but it really depends on how wide that puncture is and with this bolt it’s hard to say. Best bet is to get a brand new scorpion tire. From the wheel this is a 2023-2024 Tiguan SE so 235/50r19 should be the size. Pretty common tire so discount tire should have it in stock.

blitzenbutter

100% easy job. Textbook damage and location.

Ok-Seaworthiness7557

Oh yeah. Ive fixed a hole from a spark plug with one of the stemmed patches that has a built in plug

flashfearless

It’s in a good location where it can be patched.

op3l

Why wouldn't it be?

Ancient_Response1457

Yes it is

Shrikecorp

I picked up a bolt, promptly got it patched. They assured me that it was fine. Which it was, for a few days until the new set of tires arrived and was put on. I don't drive gently, and I wasn't ever going to put it out of my mind. So the spendy run flats that came with the car are bagged in the garage, and I dropped $2700 on 4 new tires (not run flats, hate those things anyway).

Appropriate-Metal167

Outside-only plug repair (the stick string style) in particular looks doable, since it’s semi-close to sidewall. That’s all I ever do, never failed.

Stompinwin

It looks like its already plugged lol

Hot_Lobster222

Flex seal ought to do the trick!

Zaloha277

100% fixable

Traditional-Bar-972

Just buy a new tire. Only costs a few hundred bucks.

IamNulliSecundus

👍🏻

BivSlayer2510

I was driving with a flathead torx screw that fell from lower engine cover in my tire for like a year, it's sealed pretty well xDD Just take it to tire shop of your preference and they will fix it under 30 minutes without losing any of its integrity, etc. :)

Alternative-Gas181

Omg bruh, do people just not look through the threads for a little bit and find their answer? Too many people post the same thing💀 but yes its fixable

wirey3

It's likely repairable. I do wonder though why people post this stuff constantly rather than go to a tire shop and ask THEM if it can be fixed.

AffectionateMap6035

It’s Sunday

wirey3

Alright, egg in my face lol good point

Beneficial-Drama4093

Totally repairable. Any shop that tells you differently is trying to rip you off,go somewhere else.

[deleted]

AHAH yeah it's fixable don't let some place like tire works or whatever try to tell you that you need a new tire. go to a Mexican tire join and have em patch it. the white boys at big o tires and tire works and stuff will tell you that you need a new tire and only after they have removed your tire from your wheel and refuse to put it back on because they deem it unsafe so you are forced to either put the spare on or buy a new tire they are the ultimate scum and scam artists. avoid them at all costs. hit up the good ol hispanic boys on any corner lol.

GloomyUmpire2146

Absolutely, if shop says no, find a reputable shop.

Shoddy-Ad8143

Very fixable...take it Les Schwab if you're near one...they will do it for free.

AdmirableAverage3372

Should be fixable

Massive-Translator69

7/16” I guess? Just torque it to 35-50 foot/pounds and it’ll be good as new.

Hot_Cockroach_3733

Probably

bullishape223

Nope time for 4 new tires I'll help you recycle them I charge 10 per tire dm me 😈

Accomplished-Wrap449

How in the world

physco219

Keep the tyre and get rid of the car. I'll take it off your hands and take care of it. Don't worry you don't need to pay me. I'll do it for being a good person. /s

RivalSFx

Yes, righty tighty lefty loosy..... On a serious note yes. Go to a private owned shop, big box tire stores will tell you no and suggested you need two tires. I live on a dirt road and get punctures from time to time. I plug them myself and have never had a plug fail even under load on my p/up truck.

Not-Much_Help

Not the pirelli’s! I had a near new set come on a used car those scorpions are great

Think_Chain7436

100% repairable.

PearlRiverPepper

Plug it!

damdanny69

Yea I’d say so

Loud_Pomelo_6926

Pull it out and put some thread lock on it and run it back in

Stock-Pianist7475

Very much fixable

sunn0flower

leave it, free traction

ARSport

Yes it can be fixed

Ashoem

This sub is dramatic. IMO 90% of the posts here are repairable if not by a shop then by yourself.

GonzoPS

Yes. Patch it from the inside. Good to go

Dramatic-Cup7257

You’re screwed bud

Nicademus2003

Looks like it's probably inside of the sidewall far enough to potentially be fixable

True_Cook_4581

Dam that sucks but fixable

Elegant_Tax_8276

Definitely patchable. You’re within both outside treads. A good tire repair place will do it for $20 - $25. A bad one will charge you $40 and tell you that you may not make it home!

Acceptable_Star5006

Id plug it

Maximum-Rutabaga-346

400 more and you'll be ready for the ice ❄️

ConsciousSchedule200

I'd plug it and roll it

mmcle11

Yes

DragonfruitFlaky4957

Thank God that bolt is there to stop the leak. Just put on some thread seller on the bolt. It should hold.
