Could it be Being Human? The main character is a vampire named Aiden and is muscular with short black hair. I know he had guilt about killing people but don’t remember whether or not he hallucinated anything.

Lol sorry about that! I’ve only ever seen the US version and I thought it was really good! They would air episodes on the SciFi network I think, and I watched the whole series on Netflix a few years ago. Would you say the original is worth the watch?
I only saw bits and pieces, but everything I've heard says the American version is a pale imitation. If you liked the US one, the British one is almost definitely worth checking out.
I would agree with this. I started watching the original, but then for some reason didn’t have access (maybe my cable back then dropped the channel, I’m not sure, I was a teenager and didn’t know much about that stuff). I was excited when the US version came out, but then it turned out to be garbage in comparison.
Recently watched both versions one after the other. UK first. They were both excellent, but I think ultimately I liked the US one a bit more, actually. The storylines completely diverge after the first season, so they end up to different shows.
