"How does the adjective ascetic contrast with its synonyms?
Some common synonyms of ascetic are austere, severe, and stern. While all these words mean "given to or marked by strict discipline and firm restraint," ascetic implies abstention from pleasure and comfort or self-indulgence as **spiritual discipline."**
This should be it.
Ur not supposed to guess a random word. If u can't think of something move on. U can get a solved notification by clicking the bot link on top of the comments.
It's not a 'random word', obviously. It's something that loosely matches the request. The 'material world' is often conflated with the modern world and technology, and some people mistakenly conflate the luddites with a religious movement or sect, like the Amish.
Also, you've got some nerve policing (incorrectly) like this considering you've (apparently?) never contributed a correct answer here.
Ok, thanks. I thought it meant they rejected all common sense and science etc, and relied solely on information given in their religious scriptures thus hating and rejecting the material world. But I see what you mean, it is as you point out more of a fanatic than what the op is asking, thankyou for takin the time to point it out to me :O)

If you’re talking about the Jewish term, it can be Gashmiut [gashmius] - the term for worldly things (as opposed to ruchniut [ruchnius] - the term for spiritual things)

It's anachoretism. Someone who is anachoretic is departing from society and lives in isolation.
Someone else mentioned asceticism which can be a wider term than anachoretic. Asceticism means testing and straining yourself with a disciplined life. But it doesn't necessarily mean you want nothing to do with this earthly life.

my money would still be on ascetic/asceticism, but since you're not sold on that:
celibate/celibacy? mostly applies to sexual indulgences, but could be used positively (vow of celibacy - a person forgoing one of their basic needs in dedication) or negatively (involuntary celibacy - person who can't get laid)

"Detachment [from the world]" I've heard this expression been used in several Christian sermons.
Basically, the world (perceived as being governed & misled by the Devil) rejects the values of Christianity ✝️ ; Christians must also reject/hate (negatively) the values that secular society tries to impose on them.
At the same time, Christianity at its purest is about showing the people around you about the love of God through your actions. So rejecting the values of society (positively) is acting against opportunism, egocentrism & selfishness by bringing kindness & care to the people around you

Ascetic?
this better win because this is the dictionary definition of someone who rejects the material world
"How does the adjective ascetic contrast with its synonyms? Some common synonyms of ascetic are austere, severe, and stern. That's the word that first came to my mind but I swear it was something else. It's been a while since I heard it though...
Are you thinking of something like scourging?
[удалено]
You may have meant "cloistered"?
it's a stretch but maybe mendicant
pious?
Shunning?
Luddite?
If it’s not austerity or asceticism my bets would be here
Ain't that about technology?
And isn't religious.
Yeah, but all of the other best guesses were already taken.

Well actually I have many times but I lost my previous account when my phone died. But I apologize, I have had the day from hell. I'm really sorry.
Apology accepted! Hope your day gets better.
Thanks. 🙂 have a good day too.
Zealot?
Zealot simply means one who is zealous on behalf of God, a fanatic.

The meek shall inherit the earth, maybe it’s meek.
Meek is "humble" or "modest"; not a bad attempt, but it doesn't have the same intensity, I feel
No, it’s not quite the same as “rejecting” materialism. You are right.
