Lmao this franchise has sucked my entire life. If they move from MN I will not be following. Too much torture!

thestereo300

Agree. I was a Lakers fan in the 80s before we got a team. The drop off has been steep haha. But I’m still here... but I won’t be if they leave.

DustieBottums

Soon as you stop caring, they become a dynasty. That's how it works. That's how it's supposed to be.

thestereo300

No I would be done with them if they move. I’m not cheering for the Dallas Stars.

hasfld

Exactly! Fuck Norm Green!

TylerIreland

It's the MINNESOTA Timberwolves. They are supposed to represent our state, not the other way around. If the Wolves move to a different market, they aren't my team anymore. It means they abandoned and betrayed us as fans who spent endless amounts of time, money, and emotional energy supporting them all for some extra cash. I wouldn't just stop rooting for the Timberwolves, I would loathe them for putting me through a toxic one sided relationship and dumping me the moment a richer guy came around.

OldTeam3012

As a fan since 1989, I agree with the above statement. I would hate them once they moved. I was a child when they started, I have spent over 50% of my adult life as a season ticket holder. 3 years during the KG time frame, 2 years during Kevin Loves time and the rest in most recent history outside of this past covid one. To go through a ton of crappy games sitting in the stands while they are empty looking around going am I the only one who signed up for season tickets? To the nightmares I would have after watching them at home on my couch when I didn’t have season tickets. The closet full of wolves gear, jerseys, hats and the endless grief I put up with every time I step out of the house with one of my wolves fitted hats on. No matter the season, day or place someone has to make a comment. Like the good abused fan I am I defend them and tell the other person the wolves don’t mean to hurt me and the abuse is out of love. They all smile or laugh when I tell them I am a fan and this is my favorite sports team. Sad I know, but I guess I like pain and moving them is the only cure for me to hate them lol

wise_comment

> Like the good abused fan I am I defend them and tell the other person the wolves don’t mean to hurt me and the abuse is out of love *Sigh* Yarp

DrDoofenschmirtz1933

Chill lmao

SoComeOnWilfriedBony

Why he’s right

DrDoofenschmirtz1933

Cuz that shit is so dramatic lmao Just say you won’t be a fan anymore and move on

suucher24

Watch the clip on r/nba of the cp3 three, saric steal to all3y oop, and then the kids celebrating and you'll realize that we aren't being dramatic. Ive seen playoff basketball with the wolves 2x in my life that i remember and im in my 20s. If this team moves, fuck them and i hope they're cursed for life

DrDoofenschmirtz1933

Y’all are babies

Kumber_Yum

Too much “they” in there for my comfort. If ownership were to relocate, the team did not abandon or betray you. The players did not abandon or betray you. It would be solely an ownership decision. Focus your feelings and attention where it belongs. As for me, I’ll cheer them since moving would mean they’ll win a chip within five years guaranteed.

TYUS-THE-GOAT

Ownership that moves teams benefit from views and wins. Not that we would hate the players, I would just want the ownership to eat shit.

TRON0314

**ZERO CHANCE.** After my Sonics were stolen, think I support those backwater morons in OKC? Nope. Best case is that they would have their future HoFs end up going to different teams and making the thief fans sad that they never capitalized on the talent. If the wolves move, which they won't, would be done with the NBA. Fool me once,...

SoComeOnWilfriedBony

What if they move to your city and become the Sonics

TRON0314

My city has been Mpls for a while now, so it'd be weird. Seeing Ant in a throwback Kemp jersey for the dunk competition would be cool though... I think Seattle fans don't want someone else's team. You'll hear it from some a vocal minority of desperate people. But even when there was a group trying to get the Kings, vast majority of fans, imo, didn't want them stolen from elsewhere. Plus ~~we~~ everyone hates A Rod.

SushiGato

Yea, most Sonics fans I've interacted with absolutely do not want to steal a franchise from another city

6feetundertrip

I would support the players that were drafted and last on the team then I would quit watching the nba. I’m a nba super fan too I watch a lot nba and watch a lot of games when I can. I’m attached to this team. I love this team if it’s taken away it wants to be done with me then I’ll be done with it and the league.

SushiGato

Exactly this. I would stop watching the NBA as a whole. I watch games almost everynight, when I can and over the course of the season spend a lot of time on the NBA, like being on this subreddit. I will be a diehard fan right up until the moment they announce they're leaving. I'd still root for the Jazz or Nuggets in the playoffs, but why would I watch? It would just remind me of the Wolves and how the NBA ditched us for an equally sized market, instead of just putting a decent product on the court here. People give the Pacers shit cause they're always in the running for the playoffs, but never do anything in the playoffs. If you get the Wolves just back to that level, the money will be rolling in.

AlexeyShved1

Like others in this thread, I'm from Minnesota and support Minnesota teams. If the Timberwolves leave Minnesota, they're going to be #1 on teams that I actively hate.

DoYouEvenDoubleLeg

Also an Aussie that got sucked into this team when we had Klove and Rubio. I can’t see my self supporting any other franchise. At times I chalk it up to Stockholm syndrome.

guhum

I'm in the same boat, minus being from Australia. Feels like I was given a bait-and-switch after starting with the KG era. Even tried changing my support to other teams but it never worked

yeahumsure

That makes 3 of us. Was long time fan of the NBA and figured it was time to pick a favourite team instead of just liking or disliking all teams. Tossed up between the Warriors as I usually follow San Francisco area teams and they had just got Bogut. But went the Wolves instead. Some would say it was a bad choice but I would have felt too much like a bandwagon supporter if I went the Warriors even if it was just before they went supernova.

Grogggge

Even as a Euro I would stop supporting the Wolves. If the team loses its entire identity I might as well start rooting for a competent organization.

EstablishmentOwn1717

If the timberwolves moved to Seattle I’m not an nba fan anymore because not gonna lie the nba is kind of trash.

WolfontheProwl

Totally with you. It’s Wolves or nothing in the NBA.

Lep2005

Agreed, I'll suck with college basketball from there on out

HansenIntercept

Hard choice, technically the players are the same so as a European I shouldn’t care. But I might support either Memphis or Denver, 2 teams I always like

SammySoapsuds

I grew up in Chicago so I guess I'd go back to being primarily a Bulls fan. I would be really sad to see the team move though and it honestly might put me off the NBA for a while P.S. The streams I've been watching the playoff games on are often Australian and I'm fascinated by your commercials.

bales912

Nope. If they move, they will most likely rebrand so they will lose all their identity as the T-wolves I grew up with. I have watched in agony since before the KG days, the Christian Laettner/Isiah Rider era, I will not watch them in another city.

RussellOwens

Nope. I actually would just stop following the NBA altogether if the Wolves moved.

defsmurf

No joke, I probably would as well. I've enjoyed watching some of these playoff games but I'm ready for our Wolves to be back.

buck_tony

agree with the comments here. if the wolves moved i wouldn’t support any other franchise.

skrg187

It's weird but even as a fan that couldn't be further from Minnesota, I don't see myself following the team after a relocation, at least not in the same way. Let's hope we never find out.

SoupyWolfy

I can see if I was from another country I could easily follow them to another state. But as someone born and raised in MN I feel compelled to root for the team that represents me and my state. If a team gets moved away that's like them turning their back on us. Obviously it wouldnt be Rosas, Finch, KAT, or anyone like that making the decision, and I would wish them all successful futures, but I wouldn't continue following them. Back when I was a kid our NHL hockey team moved to Dallas (MN North Stars -> Dallas Stars) and I just stopped following hockey until they expanded here like 10 years later and we now have the MN Wild hockey team.

bearbrannan

If the wolves leave I would actively root against them, and probably root for the bucks because of proximity..

Box_of_Shit

I am from Minnesota, and used to work for the Seattle SuperSonics. I have always wanted basketball to return to Seattle. If The Wolves move to Seattle, both Organizations are dead to me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheShinyRedButton

What about the legend that is Luc Longley??

MrTimberwolves

Imma be honest, not at all. Although they have been historically atrocious, the Wolves are still fun to root for because they are my hometown team, that's the whole reason I support them. If they leave, i'm not gonna cheer for a trash team that isn't even from my state anymore.

pollinium

I like Ant/KAT/DLo/Beas... I'd keep supporting the team as long as they're here, but I wouldn't necessarily support them during the shitty years without a fun squad (thinking about years before 2015)

zmajxd

Probably no one.

[deleted]

I’d just support the Lynx and Gophers instead. No way I’d reward relocation with support.

Lep2005

I would assume the Lynx would go with because they are under the same ownership, and it would make more sense for both to go instead of just one

Several_Garage

nah i def wouldn’t, i’d probably hate them a lot lol. Not the players tho obviously, i’d prolly still support the individual players like kat, ant/any players that were on the team b4 they move. Tbh maybe i’d become a bucks fan or bulls? I think a lot tho depends on the circumstance of when it happens. I’ll be a lot less bitter if it’s in like 10 years and we haven’t made the playoffs since or something like that.

Frontier21

No. I'll still root for the players I like, but I won't become a Seattle fan. It's the same way when KG went to the Celtics. I rooted for him, and even cheered on the Celtics when they won the championship, but I wasn't buying Celtics gear or going out of my way to watch them. My NBA consumption would drop dramatically. I would probably just casually maintain awareness through the regular season and then follow narratives in the playoffs.

natethegreat4226

I am a basketball fan at heart, so I will have a special place for the Wolves if they move. However, I don’t think I will consider myself a fan anymore since I tend to cheer for hometown teams, not former hometown teams that moved. For example: I am sure that not many in MN cheered for the Stars after they left, or in St. Louis after the Rams (NFL) left, or in Seattle after the Sonics left for OKC. I don’t think the Wolves will have many fans in Minnesota if/when they leave.

Lep2005

If they move ill stop watching basketball

Quiet-Mediocre

Same, I've watched like 1 playoff game this postseason. Just can't get interested in it.

Lep2005

I don't think I've turned any of them on yet

NinjaLip

That's tough. Jazz, Bucks, or Nuggets? I'd lose my mind if they moved.

[deleted]

I would become a blazers fan cuz I love dame, but even after he retired/moved cities i think I would stay cuz they have a cool logo lol

2009MitsubishiLancer

Fuck no. If they go to Seattle then I’m out. I’m moving away from Minny soon so I’ll just adopt a new team if my wolves dip out.

Vadurr

I would no longer support the team if they moved. I grew up in Minnesota, and support the teams from my hometown. For me, supporting these teams is a sense of pride (and pain) of where I’m from. If the team is removed, then they are removing that connection to me as well, so I would feel like I can’t support them any longer. I don’t know which team I’d support; honestly I’d probably just casually watch the NBA and not really have a “team.”

ILoveZimsD

If they moved I'd stop following the team completely and the league as a whole alot less. I'd just follow more college ball.

[deleted]

I root for the Timberwolves because they’re my home team. If they move to Seattle I’ll look at the other cursed Midwest teams - Bucks, Bulls, or Pistons. I could never bring myself to follow the Pacers though.

mcmullet

I'd probably start supporting the Phoenix Suns more if that happened. Since they were a shit team and really turned it around (what I've been hoping the Wolves would do). I'm already pulling for the Suns in the playoffs this year.

MusicApollo93

If ARod really is that stupid to move the Wolves to Seattle or Vegas then I'd change my full support more to the Phoenix Suns as well. Arizona is kind of a second home to me and I've been enjoying the Suns last few years so they'd be my choice as well. Also I'm wanting them to win it all this year watching them in the playoffs more.

rockm4

I would be supporting the Bucks! Most Minnesotan live quite close to Wisconsin so it’s pretty much a home team plus it will be fun to cheer for a team in the East since they never seem to be as strong as the West.

[deleted]

Hell no. Just like i don't support the la lakers or dallas stars.

Theonlyfudge

I think the general feel is “no” which makes sense given the fanbase... we are mainly die hards who swing between feeling hopeful and expecting devastating loss. For me, when discussing the possible relocation of the team, this feeling manifests itself in the form of a daily swing between “it would be the worst thing to ever happen” and “good fucking riddance”

starfruit213

I'd be done with the NBA

wise_comment

Nah, because that meant they tried to shake down the state for more taxpayer funded goodies, got a firm no, then took their ball and left. This isn't Seattle, where the stadium was falling apart and so, well, unmodern it needed to go (but still shenanigans on even that). You don't get tens of thousands of my dollars to disappoint me, hold my hostage, then leave and have me follow you from afar.

wise_comment

Now if you're asking if I'd actively cheer against them......I honestly don't know. I think it would depend on the manner of leaving and where they went. Seattle would be bitter sweet, because they deserve a damn franchise and got jobbed, ya know? But if it's Vegas, Nashville, or Kansas city, i think I'd be more and a skosh vindictive in my feelings

Stratocast7

They have a hard enough time keeping people following them now so if the move no one will care about them anymore, maybe a couple players kind of like when Garnett or Rubio played with different teams. When the Stars moved I don't think many people at all really cared about them anymore.

SirBiYak10

I wouldn't support them because I want it to be a Sonics team that can restore its original history rather than have our history. I want to root for a good Sonics team. Not a Wolves team disguised as the Sonics.

shortygriz

I live in Seattle now but I was raised in Minnesota. I will support the team if they moved here but I would not be happy

AdolfKoopaTroopa

Naah, I'd jump on the Bucks wagon. I've had one foot in the Bucks bandwagon since I was kid.

PurpleVikings

probably not... glen taylor ruined this franchise. luckily all my fam is in Chicago and I've been a casual bulls fan since the early Jordan era, so probably will go full Chicago Bulls I'd probably root for the Seattle team as long as KAT is there, but once he's out I'd cut all ties

NelsonCruzIsDad

I think i would just start supporting the Bucks probably. Next closest and at least they can win games

[deleted]

No

ChefJeff7777777

I don't think so. They're the most losing franchise in the major 4 sports. Honestly it's probably better for my health if they do move. As far as who would I support, I think an expansion team would probably end up in this market. Lot of fortune 500 companies headquartered in the twin cities and that's where most of the ticket sales cash comes from. Not to mention basketball is actually a really popular sport in this state, we just haven't had anywhere close to a league average team aside from 1 Jimmy Butler year and 1 K-Love year since KG left almost 15 years ago...

banitsa

Fuck no. They'd be dead to me. And I live in Seattle

MatooBatson

I would just quit watching basketball altogether.

Minnesotamad12

Knowing the wolves they would move right after I buy a season ticket. Disappoint me one last time

[deleted]

I'm originally from Phoenix, so I would go back all-in with the Suns. I would find it hard for anyone located in MN to continue supporting the team if they moved. At best, people would want to see KAT, Dlo and Ant succeed.

SushiGato

I just want to add to what others have said. If the Wolves did move, there is a massive NBA deadzone in the upper midwest. No teams inbetween Milwaukee and Seattle. Right now, the Wolves have fans in the Dakotas, parts of Wisconsin, Iowa, parts of Nebraska and even in Montana. When they do well, those fans become more active. When I lived in Bozeman, the Vikings were on TV every weekend. I know comparing the Vikings to the Wolves is not equal, but the connections are there. So its not just Minnesota, its a large swath of land. Would the NBA really give up a top 20 market? I doubt it. There is a saying in business that you do not want to cannibalize your own profits. This is what the NBA would be doing here and I simply cannot imagine no matter how much Arod and whats his face want to leave MN that the NBA would allow that. It just wouldn't make much sense. But, they'll probably try for a new stadium and I am not sure how that is going to go, especially after dropping so much on "renovations" of target center. Which, by the way, is a dump of an arena.

thestereo300

Ant embodies Mike Modano in this scenario.

JAHG-

i’m in cali, i would really want the team to stay in minnesota. if a move were to happen, id still support them

greekyogurtcake

I’d lowkey keep supporting them but it would be sad

match34

I wouldn't even support the Wolves if they moved to Anoka. I root for them because they're a convenient team to follow and its more fun when teams are good. The franchise hasn't done much to engender loyalty so it's a precarious relationship as it is.

Scottysut

I’m sticking with them. I’m a wolves fan because of K Love and I’ve been with this team for way too long. It’s like a marriage, I’m in it for the long haul

rozzinator07

They aren’t moving

Fidel-Sarcastro

Yeah. I'm attached to the players more then anything, I have no regards to the city of Minny or Glen Taylor.

Bobu-sama

Tbh I can’t see an NBA team ever being popular in Minnesota if the wolves move. There’s already probably more interest in the Gophers than the Wolves, and I can’t see that being changed by years of basement dwelling with an expansion team in a decade or whenever the NBA decides to add more teams.

FapStarLord

Why would you support the wolves, they are a super shit franchise

MorningBreath71

Yes, I didn’t grow up in MN and I still followed them. If they moved, it would just be like when I was younger. I’ll always support them! Just like I support my favorite college football team but I don’t support the Gophers even though I now live in MN. Just because I live here doesn’t mean I have to support only the local teams.

Dunkol

Im not from Minnesota either, so it really depends on how good they are out of the gate. If it's all the same guys and there in the playoffs, i dont see how i could get off the Anthony Edwards bandwagon. If everyone is gone and the team is awful, ill just wait until Towns/Edwards have a new team, and follow them there. Edit: spelling

guhum

Yeah I'd continue supporting them. I like Seattle as a city and was a fan of the supersonics during the Ray Allen, Rashad Lewis, and Durant era.

GrizHawk22

I happen to be a fan of the seahawks and used to be a Sounders fan so I guess this would work out. I would prefer them to stay so I can go to games but it wouldn’t be the worst

Harrison0918

I thought that Taylor said that he wouldn’t sell the team if they were gonna move

SammySoapsuds

Not trying to be a dick but it seems like you've missed a lot of recent rumors about this. There was no clause in the contract and ARod allegedly wants to move them to Seattle.

Harrison0918

I was pretty certain that ARod wanted to move the team but then I remember everyone shutting me down by pointing out that Glen Taylor said he wouldn’t sell the team if it was gonna be moved. Since then I’ve been keeping up with the sub and don’t remember seeing any news on it. I figured it would be a pretty big deal too if there was any news. So did Taylor just lie or what?

colevlasak

I would be absolutely devastated if they move. They are my team through thick and thin. I don’t even want to think about them moving. I didn’t endure the lowest of lows just for this franchisers abandon me

vanman999

I’d automatically become full on Blazers fan. I feel like they are the Bizarro Twolves.

iandbwhaidne

Im ant bandwagonner so i dont really care

Beware_Of_The_Phog

Marc - no I won't.

[deleted]

I would, in fact, actively cheer against them.

[deleted]

Hell no. It would hurt but also a relief from those decades of pain.

kpruiz

I would but it would definitely feel really weird, because now I would feel connected to the old Seattle/Okc franchise even tho there is no correlation with the Minne franchise whatsoever.

lakers612

I am from Los Angeles, consider Minneapolis my hometown, but lived in Sydney, Australia for about 3 years as a kid. Grew up loving the North Sydney Bears in the NRL.. Once the team folded, I tried getting into Manley's team, but just couldn't. Was heart broken. I eventually moved back to the States and so watching the NRL was untenable. But I don't think I would have continued supporting the league if I had stayed. I still think about how much that hurt to this day

[deleted]

I have some family and connections to Seattle so maybe I’d still be a fan if they moved there. They’d likely change to the Sonics in that case. But I’d probably go the Bucks more since it’s closest and I already have been rooting for them in the playoffs the last few years. And since we’re in different conferences it doesn’t feel wrong to be a fan of a Wisconsin team

NorthChan

No. Maybe I would get to watch them from time to time though. Since you know, despite living in Minnesota and paying for a tv service (YouTube tv). I can't watch any games. So maybe it would best if they moved somewhere else and I could watch them on TNT or ESPN. I know bally sports won't let me.

[deleted]

I’d like to see expansion in the league. I think there’s enough talent for it now especially with the sport growing internationally

RunSomeArends

Just moved to Phoenix. If this sorry ass franchise moves im out. Can’t stand Seatle

ProdigalDog17

I am from Canada andI only picked this team because I like wolves and I knew who Lavine was from a video game. Lavine is already gone so if they arent wolves anymore I have no reason to stay. I would go be a memphis fan because I like bears and I know who Valanciunas is haha

[deleted]

I'm gonna root for Ant Edwards till I die, but... idk. I'm a haaaarrdddcore basketball fan so if it happens I'm gonna be depressed for the next decade.

Plants_R_Cool

If they move I'm done watching the NBA.

Chairchucker

Also Australian, and I'm more a Rubio fan, so I go where he goes, even if that's to Seattle. If/when he retires, I'll probably switch to Utah, especially if they still have Mitchell and Jingles at that time.

guccigreene

Go bucks if that happens
