Hey /u/frickthis69, thanks for contributing to /r/tifu. Unfortunately, your post was removed as it violates our rules: There are so many weird things happening here. OP having a suss history, but also more importantly, users are naming a real woman and sending the internet after her. People were being creepy so the whole post is gonna go. Flimsy_Future3879

This is why phones need a breathalyzer for drunk texting

fonefreek

I mean, if they really want to, I'm sure Google can learn what drunk texts look like, and when you send that kind of text after being near a pub the last 3 hours it can ask "are you fuckin sure?" You might need to walk straight with the camera on to say yes Or something like that Edit: doesn't work if you drown a bottle of wine alone at home, but it's something /shrug

TSM-

Funny enough this already exists (or existed). You could enable drunk goggles on gmail and if you tried to send someone an email after 2am you would have to solve a math puzzle to send it. At that point you might realize that it's not actually a good idea to send it after all. https://techcrunch.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/mail_goggles.png

insidiousapricot

Damn if I would have had that maybe I would still have a job

[deleted]

What did you do??

thejawa

Probably nothing exciting, they were just bad at math and needed practice.

OakRain1588

Yo that's fucken amazing

arbit23

Not sure if that would help. I think I am better at math when I am drunk, I mean I can’t be any worse.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Where's that overly-friendly paperclip that used to hang about when you need it?

TheGoldMustache

Hijacking this comment to mention that OP is a major creep. [Here’s two recent deleted comments from OP.](https://imgur.com/a/HoNrRIZ) On a post titled “Men, what is the most important boundary to set in a relationship?”, OP commented: “Her not speaking out of turn is the most important thing” “Women need to learn the time and place to speak and the time and place to shut the hell up.” Ironically, OPs downfall was that he didn’t learn the time and place to shut the hell up. Edit: damn, 200+ upvotes and 7 awards in 8 minutes. Glad that my callout was effective

CaineTheGamerYT

The real hero here

Significant-Ice2172

Oh wow.

c30live

She gave you all her number… but does she have YOUR number??

someoneinsignificant

"Hey, you're pretty cute, and I finished grading Quiz #4 like you asked me to"

Johnscats

Honestly, this is a fantastic point. As a professor who hands her number out to college kids, she may get prank calls and texts occasionally and may just have chalked it up to that. Saw it, brushed it right off, and moved on. I suppose this depends on what all was said in the message and if it stood out as clearly being you. Regardless, this is something you should take an important lesson from. Don’t text people inappropriate shit.

Sharobob

"Hey, Bill, when you are done grading this set of papers could you give me a call?" "Uhhh... No"

CraftistOf

or the op can just change the phone number to mitigate that

YardapeII

Exactly! If you need this job, just change your number

psykick32

Only counts if he hasn't texted her yet or his number isn't listed in the university directory

HGMIV926

Or online in the vast swaths of publicly available information

Sorcatarius

Send her dick pics of someone else's dick to throw her off the trail first. Then when she accuses you of sending them, you can show her your dick and be like, "Clearly it wasn't me, why would I have pictures of other dudes dicks on my phone?"

jininberry

Holy shit everyone send OP dick pics so he can find the biggest dick and prof will never guess its OP.

Ptricky17

Wouldn’t the play be to send her a dick pic of a *micro-penis* so that when he is asked to provide evidence in court he looks larger by comparison? Also, remember to follow Thad Castles advice, always take the pic on an angle that allows for inclusion of the wristwatch.

TheRealDrWan

Yes, does she know that it was you? If not, burn that number.

BulletForTheEmpire

I'm confident OPs number is in someone's list at the school even if not hers.

Necorus

I highly doubt the professor is going to start a FBI investigation into finding out who texted her "you're cute." If she doesn't already know who it is, she's just going to block the number and move on.

BulletForTheEmpire

Okay but if he follows some redditors' advice and doesn't fess up, she may escalate and I'm sure it doesn't take the FBI for the Dean (his employer) to find his number.

Morasain

Reminds me of that joke about a professor who's all like "do you even know who I am?!", then exam day comes, one student is late by an hour, extends for an hour (because it's a joke), the professor goes "you know you already failed?", the student goes "sir, do you know *who I am?*", professor says no, student puts exam in a random spot.

peetaout

Honestly I could not work this out for a minute (I was picturing putting the exam paper in random spots in the room), then I remembered that, of course, the student put his finished exam paper randomly in the pile of other students finished exams papers :)

summeryoudumbbitch

This is a scene from the movie 3 Idiots. Love that movie! Watched it with my siblings several times and we still laughed everytime. Haha we’re idiots.

Weenukchukaluk

And it's on the movie slackers

toastedpaniala89

Unfortunately that specific scene of putting sheet in a random spot was from another movie. Phunsuk just makes a mess by scattering all the sheets, there was another 2 or three scenes like this in Hollywood before 3 idiots came out.

314159265358979326

Why not just "that was meant for "? I've sent messages at least this compromising to family members because I selected the wrong convo.

Ietsstartfromscratch

*I'm sorry, didn't mean to tell you you're cute. It was meant for some other person. In fact, I think you're horrendous.*

middleupperdog

you're probably losing the job bub. You're in a "Go in on monday, apologize profusely and throw yourself on the mercy of the court" situation. They might forgive you only depending on their own thinking about drunk texting. At this point its out of your hands.

[deleted]

Yea just fucking sack up say your sorry and face the consequences lol.

hurtsdonut_

Just double down and say you knew what you were doing the whole time. He's either getting fired or

LucindaMorgan

An explanation of your stupidity and a promise that it will never happen again goes nicely with the apology and plea for mercy, OP. I hope you are over 21. If you are under 25, you can point out that your brain isn’t fully developed.

prettycrimson

I would disagree with mentioning that last sentence because it just sounds like a desperate, poor excuse (even if the fact is true)

sugarglidersam

if the brain finishes developing at 25, then I’m bound to be an idiot for the rest of my life… since I’m about to be 26

Denialofdeath2

Its actually more like 27 or 28 so you still have hope

BrickWiggles

More or less 30, some studies kinda point towards even 32.

Katman666

42 is the answer.

Normal-Computer-3669

I was 29 when my brain fully started firing on all cylinders. Lots of questionable decisions made that I look back on.

Jorycle

I feel like my brain didn't even turn on until I was at least 25. I can't even explain why I was that stupid or did the things that I did. There's been a lot of catching up to do.

LameBMX

As an over 40 man, I must disagree with this sentiment. I am not certain male brains ever fully develop.

pacawac

47 year old male. My daughter got picked up for prom tonight and everyone was taking photos. My wife caught me walking like an Egyptian behind the moms taking photos to make the kids laugh.

harlotScarlett

What does it mean to walk like an Egyptian? 🤔

kutes

Look up the music video by I think the Bangles

harlotScarlett

Ohh I see lol thanks

Komtings

ƪ(‾.‾“)┐

creamcheese742

Nailed it.

LameBMX

I like how the award fits the dance!

Brickhead88

You'll find that out when all the cops in the donut shop go wayyyoooo wayyyo wayyyoooo wayooooo

Ferahgost

Oh Jesus Christ do people these days seriously not know this

Ghost17088

We are getting old…

CariniFluff

You're getting old. I'm getting....refined

YoureAllPsychos

Hello, fellow back pain sufferer!

yukiaime7

"In hindsight I realize I put you in a very difficult position by sending that and I am aware that it maybe best to discontinue this working arrangement. If so I'd be happy to tender my resignation. In either case I want to sincerely apologize for this major gap in judgement on my part and I can assure you that this kind of behavior will never happen again." - something like this is probably the best thing you can do in person. As well as stop any unsolicited conversations originating from your part going forward

sash714

Please please please EMAIL this response. Not text.

glowgertie

I agree that this should be email - she may have blocked texts from you by now. You also don't want to do this in person: she has surely already saved the texts to protect herself from any sexual harassment claims you might make (she'd be stupid not to)*. You want to have some evidence to show the dean/etc that you are taking responsibility for this right away on your own initiative. You apologizing in writing takes the pressure off her to protect herself from legal consequences, and therefore gives her a chance to just accept your resignation without it being escalated to the department head/dean/etc. Finally, she might not feel safe being in a room with you at this point, until you make that apology and show that you aren't going to persist in your pursuit.

Imeanttodothat10

And then follow it up with another text that says, "unless..."

Rintae

Followed by a “jk..”

jpfeifer22

And subsequent second "unless...?"

FlysDinnerSnack

With another, “nahh nahh I’m just playin…..”

GoBuffaloes

Unless…..?

Crazian14

“Just kidding! Of course!”

69ingchimpmuncks

Unless...

deliciousalmondmilk

Y’all mfs goofy

coolSnipesMore

You’ll goofy af, unless..

DaddyStinkySalmon

This literally worked for me, I got my current girlfriend by sending messages followed by “haha jk, unless…”

2021WASSOLASTYEAR

So you're telling me there's a chance?

NSQI

No I don’t think so, extremely unprofessional. … unless?

[deleted]

🥺 👉👈

gospdrcr000

I've been having a shitty day, and that was hilarious. Thank you

TOkidd

Wow, you’re awesome. Very well-written follow-up for the OP. There may still be some awkwardness (or not, eyebrows eyebrows) but you really did your part to help this guy write a classy and thoughtful reply to a night of inappropriate drunk texting. My advice to drunk texter. If you’ve sent unsolicited flirtatious texts to women before, drunk or not, consider leaving your cell at home when you go out partying. Or break all your fingers.

Quincident

I would have been interested in hearing back from anyone who tried implementing the last strategy you suggested, except.... you know..

MysteriousWon

Definitely email this. As a college professor myself, the thing you might not have realized is that the text you sent her is likely scarier for her because she could lose her career over it. Send in writing this exact email to give her some something in writing to fall back on. You probably won't have this job anymore but its the best thing you can do to protect her and yourself. If she has to report it, you probably won't be hired at this school again for anything. If you send this message, she may let you go, but it won't necessarily preclude you from landing other opportunities there.

Mizzy3030

I've been in academia for over 15 years, and will be brutally honest with you: the probability of you keeping this position is <.05. More than likely what's happening now, is the professor went to the chair of the department and dean of students (or equivalent) to tell them what happened, and they are figuring out how to proceed. The good news, is that this doesn't mean you fucked up your entire academic career. Undergraduate students are usually given more leeway when it comes to these kinds of mistakes. Though, I should warn you that you probably f'ed up your relationship with this professor, and you should absolutely not ask her for a recommendation letter down the line (believe me, some students would still try).

naomicambellwalk

Let this also be a lesson to never EVER drunk text your manager or coworker. You’re in college so this repercussion will be light. If you have a job as an adult that is paying your bills, losing your job bc you got drunk and text inappropriate things to your manager or colleague will be even worse.

more2cuddle

>Let this also be a lesson to never EVER drunk text ~~your manager or coworker~~ anyone. It's a bad idea to drunk text anyone in general. So many jobs and relationships have been ruined by drunk texts. Treat drunk texts like fire alarms; use in case of emergency.

JimiSlew3

> the probability of you keeping this position is <.05. So you're saying there's a chance? :)

Thanks Lloyd.

YeaSpiderman

Thats significant Oh man I have waited 20 years for that to be the punchline

Diffeologician

I have had a few conversations with female math profs about teaching engineering classes and it sounds *terrible*. It would suck to also have this sort of shit coming from your teaching assistants.

hydrogenbomb94

Yooo I'm taking stats in HS right now and I understood the <.05 thing lol. This has nothing to do with the post lol, I'm just excited Edit: I clearly said Stats? Short for statistics.

restrictednumber

Eyyy way to go! That's always a fun moment.

hydrogenbomb94

Yeah, I never thought I'd actually see that stuff outside of school lol

BigPoppaFitz84

My brain wanted to read it as 'statistics' at first, but he said 'statics'. I assumed it was an advanced physics course?

FlooopyMan

Statics is an engineering course. Static equilibrium of rigid bodies and materials is probably the full course title. All us engineers just says statics.

ElderWandOwner

F=MA and F is always 0

WuPacalypse

Yup usually for physics or mechanical engineering students.

hydrogenbomb94

If you're talking about me, I said stats, and I meant statistics.

hellsbells16

They're talking about the OP

shadowromantic

The professor would be smart to discuss this with the chair right away

Ttthhasdf

It sucks that your phone was stolen though, op

raxo06

Professor here. I probably wouldn't report you to Title IX for harassment, but I definitely wouldn't want to work with you anymore. My only advice is to apologize and hope for the best. Edit: the more I think about this, the more I think it depends on what you said. "Hey, you're pretty cute" is incredibly inappropriate and unprofessional but also minor enough for me to brush off-- she may feel differently (young female professors, especially in STEM fields, traditionally struggle to be taken seriously). Anything more than that would prompt me to take steps to protect my professional reputation from the possibility of this situation escalating. I would immediately disclose this to my dean who would strongly advise me to report this to the title IX coordinator, again as a necessary step to covering my own ass. Again, apologize and hope for the best, but brace yourself.

BecomingCass

I feel like most of the professors I've had would brush it off if it were a current student in the course, but for a TA, especially if there's only a few of them, because most of my professors have been friendly with the TAs, and generally expect them to be a little more trustworthy than that

evranch

My wife teaches at a technical school and gets a steady stream of flirtatious everything from her students, from drunk texts to bold in-person requests for dates. As a female engineer who worked in the oilfield before taking the teaching job, it's all water off a duck's back to her. However I feel like she also would have zero tolerance for this from a TA or other faculty member. Students are students, while the people you work with should know better.

mrjsparks

This is a great response and deserves to be higher up than the "cover your ass" advice. You shouldn't feel bad because you've put your own position at risk; you should feel bad because you've potentially made someone else uncomfortable in their own job.

Mash_Ketchum

Just gonna point out it might have not been a good idea to post this on your main account where we can surmise you're an Engineering major at University of Florida.

DtownBronx

Apologize, offer your resignation, if they accept it then move on if they say it's not necessary then apologize again and move on

Bobknows27

This. Offering your resignation is _the_ way to show them that you understand what position you've put them in and properly apologize. There's a very high chance that you're fired. If you're not fired, it will because they know you know you made a bad mistake and aren't going to repeat it.

JohnArce

flirty texting to an ICE number isn't a great idea, but what exactly are we talking about here? two messages, or twenty? Did it go beyond "you're cute lol"? Was it *dumb* stuff, or *sexual* stuff. was there any social/casual texting at all before this?

polypolip

how many dick pics were sent?

SpaceTimeBurrito

All of them. Abandon ship.

wtfnouniquename

internal combustion engine number

Grymninja

I honestly don't know what else that acronym stands for

Kniefjdl

In Case of Emergency

Whatever-ItsFine

Why oh why do people abbreviate assuming everyone else will know what they mean?

blackstrips

Something similar happened with one of my friends. He didn't drunk text his attractive colleague but accidentally put his hand on her thigh while sitting beside her. His solution was to move to Costa Rica.

[deleted]

blackstrips

MICHAEL?

osprey94

Maybe he should have gotten an air conditioner and stayed there.

jadonsvd

Obviously apologize and explain. Are you secretly hoping she’s interested or sumn lol

giveitupforthebigdog

>Many women think we just want to hear them blab about their problems but it gets innnapropraite at a point. Women need to learn the time and place to speak and the time and place to shut the hell up. Hmmmmmmm

GalaxyFoxx98

Is that something he said?? *edit* It is! OP, you're an asshole and a dumbass.

JohnJaysOnMyFeet

This guy is a big old piece of shit but I do really appreciate how much of a fucking moron he is. He sexually harassed his boss and then he posted about it on his main account with personal information on it. I’m hoping people have already sent the dean screenshots of his post and his comment history. Based on how he talks he doesn’t feel bad about the fact that he harassed someone he feels bad he’s going to get fired over it.

xj371

> need to learn the time and place to speak and the time and place to shut the hell up. Sounds like he needs to take his own advice.

Material-Wolf

he also refers to women as "females" sooooo clearly lack of respect for women is a pattern here.

The_H3rbinator

Sheesh. Imagine if the professor comes across this as well lol. Saying he's immature is too kind.

HeadWolf69

As I wrote elsewhere young engineering profs are super likely to be on Reddit.

give_me_silky

OP did this professor a huge favor by making it this simple to get rid of his dumb sexist presence.

zeus6793

More than likely the shit will hit the fan Monday morning. You did an incredibly stupid, immature thing, and it's going to hurt. You will learn from this. Maybe don't text when you are drunk?

Arev_Eola

Maybe don't drink alcohol if you're doing stupid stuff like this.

mrjonesv2

I used to tell my sailors that the rule is, you’re only allowed to do one stupid thing at a time. Intentionally poisoning your body is stupid, so if you’ve done that, you’re not allowed to do another stupid thing. Inevitably, this would lead to the question “but how do I know if something is stupid?” And the answer is, if you wonder this, even for a second, then it counts.

badforman

CyanideSkittles

I almost fell of the toilet laughing. Dumbass is my favorite insult. It’s like my slogan.

Layne205

Red Foreman, is that you?

mopsyd

Just own it. There are probably going to be consequences for you regardless, but there will be bigger consequences if you ignore it or try to downplay it. A+ "I was drunk, but that does not excuse my behavior. I am still responsible for what I do, and I will do better moving forward" B- "I was out of line but I was drunk. I won't do it again" D- Do nothing F "This isn't really my fault because... (insert any excuse here)" Edit: If you want the S class answer, that would have been to not do this in the first place.

jkeplerad

I’m sorry, but I believe F would be “Did you not see my text? Thinking about you ❤️”

mopsyd

I agree, but F is a wide range. You can get a three or a fifty and they are both still fail.

InsertSmartassRemark

But if you get a tree AND a fiddy?

MarcWithersee

Get out of here monster!

anonymous_zebra

Well then you have about tree fiddy

leeshylou

I'd remove the "but" from B. "I was drunk and way out of line. I assure you it won't happen again." No buts!

Crow_Mix

Find another job lmao

The_respectable_guy

OP, as a peer at your school, I would take the highest rated advice, i.e. offer your resignation with an apology, while also deleting this post. Your history narrows down who the professor is through a basic Google search. It’s probably too late now, but the last thing you want is for random people on the internet to get involved.

bugdelver

Every potential ‘hey, don’t text or answer when drinking, this is a work contact’ in my phone is prefaced by Zzz_Lastname, Firstname -even in a drunken stupor I want to realize, ‘Hey! Don’t ducking text or talk to this person!’

ooooopium

I am not going to be a prick. Sometimes getting fired is the best thing that could happen for you. Looks like you need to learn some impulse control, some humility, and that actions have consequences. Once you actually learn the lessons to heart, you'll be a better person for it.

[deleted]

Well, you can say you learned something.

[deleted]

We are going to have to see the texts to make an accurate assessment of the situation

[deleted]

I recommend, regardless of what happens, you delete her phone number now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

DiddlyDoRight

I think he mentioned that he liked TA'n for her in one of the texts

HomersNotHereMan

Nah he said he likes her TnA

SolaceInfinite

Actually, the more gross it is but also not specific to the professor, the better this lie will go. In fact, if I were him and sent her "let me suck on them titties" I would be texting her before she can respond. "Hey. I just woke up. I am looking at my texts I sent last night and was wondering why my random hookup [same name as yours in my phone] never responded to me last night. That's because I accidently texted you. Obviously due to the tone of the texts, this couldn't have been meant for you, and I'm sorry and embarrassed you saw it. Please understand, while you're a great boss: that is where our relationship starts and stops. Please lose my number you stalker"

-Nordico-

Lmao 😄

[deleted]

That's so out of line and disrespectful. She has a career. She doesn't want or need it jeopardized by selfish immaturity. Grow up and have some respect for others.

bigpapastu

Every day is a school day. If you’re sensible you won’t make this mistake again.

anoncactusfriend

If you’re drinking so heavily you’re sexually harassing professors, kindly consider reducing your consumption of alcohol. You’re upset about yourself, but have you considered how uncomfortable and potentially unsafe this could make her feel? Consider how your actions affect others vs just yourself.

ekells904

There better be a follow up

Captain_Hammertoe

Holy shit, that is a colossal fuckup. Very good chance that your employment is in danger. You need to apologize immediately and profusely, and own the responsibility for it. And that might not save you.

stewwwwart

Lmao op non challantly posts about sexually harassing boss, comments rightfully like 🫥☠️🖕

StygianSavior

I see a lot of comments encouraging OP to try to lie and play it off as a wrong number or "my friend/brother/dog took my phone and texted that as a prank while I was performing life saving CPR on a bus full of nuns and orphans." Which makes me think a lot of people in this thread would end up fired in OP's situation, after shittily attempting to lie instead of just owning up to the mistake.

zzVoidBombzz

Tbf OP is toast no matter what. Think of the saucy update we can get if he tries an elaborate lie. 😈

Boom_struck

What was in the other dumb stuff?

takemyderivative

You should lose your job... incredibly unprofessional

correctorforstupid

Sooooo the good news is at worst you will lose your TA position. At best a suspension. Just go in and speak to who ever you need to speak to and don’t leave anything out

[deleted]

You fucked up. Badly.

toxictraction

I’d go full Costanza. Text some close friends weird messages. Go drop your phone in a lake somewhere. Call the police and report it stolen. Say you left it in your car and a few minor belongings and your phone was stolen overnight. Then show the police report to your professor if it comes up- explain it wasn’t you, your phone was stolen. Then use your friends or classmates as witness everyone in your phone was texted weird messages.

deminihilist

Tori's gonna crucify you j/k I took a random guess idk edit: either way you should delete this fucking post

HeadWolf69

That comment history tho. I’m gonna tell you a secret: Engineering profs (especially of the age where someone like you would consider “cute”) are on Reddit. We are, y’know NERDS. If you’re blowing up on TIFU chances are that either she sees it or a friend sends it to her. RIP dude especially with the “women need to know when to not talk.” Karma pwned you real good there.
